YOUR DIGITAL FIRST IMPRESSION: TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR PROFESSIONAL BIO
Your social media bio is the first introduction friends, clients, and contacts will have when they visit your page or profile. See it as your elevator pitch, the only difference is, they get to read it themselves, and most times, you don’t know when they do. So the words they’ll read will make an immediate impact, which is why you should put your best foot forward.
In no particular order, here are things you should consider when writing your bio for social media platforms like facebook or LinkedIn. Let me note that your bio can only take a few words, so this post will work better when you want to update your profile picture, create a ‘Meet Me’ post that you’d like to pin to your profile or create an introductory video for your personal brand.
1. Say your name, tag, and words that describe you. For example, my name is Pat Uche, The Excellent Publisher. I am a writer and... (It’s okay to not have a tag; it is not compulsory. However, it is a necessary part of your brand identity).
2. Write about your skills and abilities. Here, you state what you can do and the value you bring. Also talk about your corporate brand, if you run any.
3. Your goals and dreams. What motivates you? What big audacious goals are you chasing?
4. Your accomplishments and results. Talk about your degrees, qualifications, awards, recognition, positions, publications, books and affiliations.
5. Fun facts about you. Interesting personal stories of moments that reveal your deeper qualities that people can relate with.
6. Social impact. In what ways have you made an impact in the lives of others or given back to society? Have you volunteered before? Has your training or courses made impact in the lives of people? Talk about your philanthropic involvement and other social causes.
7. Link to your webs!te. Direct people to any external professional webs!tes or online portfolios with more information. If you don’t have any yet, include the contact information of how you’d like people to reach you personally. You can also share the li.nk to your lead magnet (course, training, service or book)
8. Any other relevant information you’d like to be identified with
By the time you put all these, together, you would have crafted a beautiful bio. When you add an excellent headshot, it is finished.😀
Congratulations to you! Go and rewrite or update your bio.
