The challenges, hard times, killings, bitterness and the thorns of life have made so many lose focus on the good things around them.
Forget about the troubles in Nigeria for a moment and thank God for the good things that came your way this week. One or two good things happened to you this week. Everyday isn't for complain.
What are you grateful for? A house. A job. Kids. Health.
When last did you compliment your spouse or boy/girlfriend,hug your kids, help an elderly person, visit a poor family?
Forget about Nigeria for a moment and count your blessings.

The Unknown Gunmen in the South, especially in the South-East, is gradually turning into a terrorist organization. They have been engaged in activities that are terrible and wicked.
This was how al-Qaeda, ISWAP, Hezbollah, Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations started.
No matter how bad the nation is in your own opinion, you have no right making someone a widow, orphan, widower, destitute or fatherless.

Commentaries on both the traditional and the social media on the 61st anniversary of our country's independence show truly how divided we are. The hatred, bile, mischief and downright presentation and distortion of facts been spewed all over is threatening the fabrics holding this nation together.
While some people have given up on this country, others are indecisive. However, in this nation, there are men and women of goodwill who wish Nigeria well.
Nigeria isn't the problem; some Nigerians are.

One thing stood out for me in President Muhammadu Buhari's October 1st broadcast this morning. Mr. President stated that a serving senator is a major financier of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
I am tempted to believe that the senator is Enyinnaya Abaribe. I pray this is not a witch-hunt. But if it is true, Senator Abaribe is in for the greatest fight of his life.

The dilapidated state of our roads is beyond political parties. These pictures of bad spots are the Unizik junction to the Okpuno Y-junction in the Capital of Anambra State, Awka. This is a State governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, not the APC nor the PDP. This is the only State controlled by APGA. What a shame.
Anambra produced the likes of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Dora Akunyili amongst other heavy weights.
Anambrans, please, do the needful on election day.

There is a particular pattern our elected officials follow and it seems to go from generation to generation. They conceive and begin a project but never finish it. These abandoned projects litter every State of the nation. Meanwhile these projects have gulped billions of naira.
Yet when their successors assume office, they refuse to with the continuation of the project or see it as not politically viable for them and then launch their own white elephant projects.
The question is why do our leaders wilfully loot the treasury in the name of projects?

The government has failed the elderly in the society. These are men and women who gave their best in their prime but are now left to wallow in poverty, ill health and lack of care.
Governors live fat in Government Houses but consistently refuse to pay these elderly people their pensions and gratuities. How callous and wicked can our leaders be? This is the height of insensitivity.

It is a trend to see our leaders posting pictures of their children who have successfully graduated from universities abroad on social media. One can imagine the happiness in the hearts of these parents.
Contrast that with the pain in the hearts of the average Nigerian parent whose child is studying in one of our tertiary institutions.
The actions of our leaders tell us that our educational system is comatose. If they don't trust the system, are we not doomed?

Can you see the huge plume of smoke ascending to the heavens like the sacrifice in the scriptures? See how dark and thick it is. This is ONELGA in Rivers State.
However, these environmental pollutions and degradations are not only ongoing in Rivers State but in various communities spread across the Niger Delta and a large swathe of the entire South (South-South South-East and South-West).
These hydrocarbons which are deadly to our own health comes down as soot everyday. It is no longer unusual to see a collection of the soot whenever it rains. These soots can be found in our homes at various hours of the day. We are gradually dying. We know it and the world knows it.

Many roads are bad as the rains have shown. We now see the durability of the works of these politicians. From Abia to Zamfara States, there is hardly any State that is not grappling with this ugly sight.
Some Federal, State and feeder roads are huge embarrassment. Man-hours are wasted on these roads, accidents are constant and the effects of these on vehicles, bikes, kekes etc are better seen than imagined.
The governments responsible for these roads should fix them when the dry season comes. Nigerians aren't asking for much.

Owing to the level of security threat in Zamfara State, the Federal Government has ordered a total shutdown of telecommunication activities in the state. This shutdown by the telecom operators is to fight banditry and other forms of insecurity in Zamfara state.
While some see this as not proactive enough, one is tempted to ask if this is the best strategy our security agencies can come up with to fight banditry?

Speculations are rife that former President Goodluck Jonathan is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. With each passing day, the rumour gets louder.
President Jonathan is a force in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and if he defects to the All Progressives Congress, APC, it will deal a mortal blow to the party.
For now this is a rumour. Time will tell if the course steered by the former president is right.

Boko Haram terrorists and hundreds of fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) invaded Rann community in Borno State killing scores of people. Reports have it that troops in the area were pushed out of their base for several hours. This is terrible.
Security forces are beginning to give Nigerians the impression that these terrorists are more disciplined, tactical and understand their arts more than the Nigerian troops. Nigeria cannot be overrun by terrorists and bandits. The military must up their game and take this fight to these terrorists.

A shocking story has emerged online. The chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, Evangelist Margaret Inde, empowered pilot farmers in the council each with a hoe, cutlass and one tuber of yam on the historic 30 years existence of the Local Government.
Some of our political leaders ought to be comedians. How can a leader do such in this 21st century? Is this the best, Evangelist Margaret Inde can offer?

Senator Dino Melaye uploaded this picture on his page a couple of days ago. Honestly, it generated a heated debate between the lovers and haters of both presidents.
It is worth noting that both Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari will be on the lips of Nigerians for so many years.

This is what it typically looks like whenever it rains in Aba. 2023 is round the corner and the politicians will start making promises. Abians and residents of Aba, how have you fared these years?
The choice to get proper representation is yours. ABA is worth being called a commercial and industrial hub. You can't settle for anything less.

While the government of Rivers State blows its trumpet on massive development in all sectors of the State, these are the pupils of Community Primary School, Azuogu, Ndoki in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.
What wrong did these innocent children do to warrant their sitting on the floor to learn?
Governor Nyesom Wike, how would you feel if any of your kids was taught in this environment? This is totally unacceptable, Mr. Governor, in the 21st century.

27/08/2021

The battle of supremacy between Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus is getting interesting as Prince Secondus secured a court ruling in his favor, yesterday. All these strategizing, manouevres and intrigues are all pointers to the delicate balance of the actors as they position themselves for the 2023 general elections.
It is trite to say that whoever losses between these two gladiators will end up splitting the party in the middle. Whether this fight is worth it will be seen in 2023. As for now, Nigerians are watching both the episodes and seasons of this movie.

I have been receiving hate and threat messages since I posted the pictures of the sordid state of Ariaria International Market, Aba, Abia State. While the messages are direct there are no pictures of theirs to counter my narrative.
The picture below is on Bethel Ogundu's wall. He was in Ariaria yesterday and took pictures. The pictures are dated and timed. The government should do the needful. They were voted into office to better the lots of citizens not make them harder.
"After all, there is a governor, a senator, a House of Representatives member, a State House of Assembly member and a Local Government Chairman" from that area.

A friend sent me pictures of this newly constructed road in Edo State that is currently going bad. This road was completed a few months ago and this is the sorry state it is now.
How can those in authority do this wicked thing to the masses? What wrong did the electorates do voting you into office?
Can't we have responsible leaders who have the interest of the masses at heart?

Why are some contractors wicked, insensitive and greedy? These men and women bid for contracts, get these contracts then provide or produce substandard and shoddy jobs. These contractors who are paid heavily on the strength and worth of the contract negate the tenets of their professions and line up their pockets, feeding fat on the sleaze of their corrupt actions.
Take the roads for instance in Nigerian States. These roads become very bad barely months after they are commissioned. Some drainages are nothing to write about. One begins to ask if these engineers are bereft of ideas and common practices of engineering. No steel rods or proper combination of sand, gravel and cement. This is wickedness! How callous can people be!!!
And to rub it in our faces, these projects are commissioned with fanfares, elaborate display of opulence and politicians who lie bare-facedly.
Corruption is not in Abuja. Corruption is you, THE CONTRACTOR.

These pictures have been trending online for days now and it is said to be the Ariaria International Market, Aba, Abia State. Some friends have confirmed that it is true.
If this is actually true, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu needs to cover his face in shame. The Commissioner of Works ought to have resigned or fired. And for Christ's sake, what oversight function has the Abia State House of Assembly been performing?
Imagine what this could do to the health of dwellers, business owners and customers (mosquito infestations and possibly outbreak of diseases)!!! This is appalling and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Nigeria losses billions of dollars annually to various forms of criminality especially piracy and sea robbery. These include rivers and tributes, distributaries, creeks, lagoons and intra-coastal waterways. Nigeria was rated number one in pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea by the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) last year. Pirates and sea robbers are often well armed, violent and have attacked, hijacked, robbed ships and kidnapped crews.
The risks in these areas have made maritime trade an unattractive proposition due to insurance premiums on commercial vessels.
Maritime occupies a very significant position in the economic aspirations and commitment of Nigeria and security agencies must tackle this headlong.

No tribe, ethnic group or religion is inferior to the other in Nigeria. Forget the doomsayers and predictors of evil omen, they do these to whip up sentiments to further divide us. What makes you think the person is telling you the truth? Have you properly checked the history books yourself to ascertain the veracity of such claims?
Whether Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba or any of the other ethnic groups, we have the same rights and obligations as enshrined in the Constitution. Do not let anyone talk you down or make you feel less important.
It will be very catastrophic if we allow what played out in Rwanda and Bosnia happen in Nigeria. The Nigerian Civil War which cost millions of lives in the 60s will be a child's play. Do not allow anyone deceive you and you die for nothing.

Nigerians are going through one of the most difficult times. The hardships felt through the length and breadth of this great nation seem to be on the increase everyday. Sometimes, one is tempted to ask if those in authority really have an idea of what the masses are going through or are they just content sitting in AC offices and driving in the latest SUVs?
It is wickedness for any leader to be calm in the face of the staggering poverty, hunger and deprivations. The prices of foodstuffs keep increasing with no end in sight.
How can this be in a nation blessed with so much human, material and mineral resources? Are we cursed?
Our leaders need to know that they are not safe. When the people of this nation will rise, your security details, bullet-proof SUVs and fortified mansions will not save you. Remember, a hungry man is an angry man.

Corruption is now ingrained in our subconscious that we have lost the sense of dignity and morality. Our feelings are numbed at the punch of corruption as we don't care at the squeeze of its hold.
We celebrate persons whose riches are suspicious; whose wealth are questionable and; have no track record of work and meaningful investments.
It is now an acceptable norm for job seekers to part with a fortune before they get employment or a part of their salaries are 'given'to those who facilitated their employment every month.
Reliefs, aids, grants from government are only given to cronies, party faithfuls and family members while the actual beneficiaries read or hear about it in the newspapers, television and radio.
These days corruption does not hide, it wears expensive suits and stares us in the face. Corruption now lives with us as spouses, kids, friends, relatives and neighbours.

Love is one of the few universal words that is commonly used but least understood. It is both emotionally ladened and practically underused. Pastors preach about it in churches; Imams talk about it in mosques; we profess it everyday but do we really know what it is?
The test of love is in difficult times, impossible situations and heart wrenching circumstances.
Love is properly understood when the recipient is not worthy to receive it. Love looks beyond the other's faults and searches for the good in her. Love is not stupid though it may appear so. Love is intelligent.
Love goes beyond religion, ethnicity, tribe, colour and class. Christians must love Muslims if they claim to be adherents of the words of Jesus Christ. Muslims must love Christians, too, if they claim to follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammed. Same goes for other religions and sects.
One doesn't know what love is until prejudices, preconceived notions and hate is taken away. We only start living when we start loving.

There are a few things in life that are permanent and constant: Death, taxes and change. Every other thing changes with time. A child becomes an adult after a couple of years; the world would be more sophisticated than it is now fifty years from now; about 98 per cent of those reading this post now should be dead in about one hundred years from now.
So why brag about who you are or store wealth that will be squandered by those who don't know you? Why buy mansions all over the world when you don't know if your children will sell them off or not or may have little or no need for them?
Time is fleeting. It's better you leave your imprints on the sands of time. Sooner or later you will be gone.
What will you be remembered for?

There are over 112 million Nigerians who live in poverty according to the National Bureau of Statistics. These are men, women and children who probably didn't eat last night, slept in uncompleted buildings and may be suffering from sicknesses, diseases or ailments. While some of them are engaged in menial jobs, others have no sustainable income.
The women who, mostly, are widows or single mothers leave a pitiable sight with their children begging for alms. There is no doubt we must always have the poor amongst us.
Please show a little kindness to these folks. Buy them clothes. Feed them for a weekend if you can. Help those who will want to start a little business (some just need only ten thousand naira). Employ any of them if you can. Do your best for these poor and lowly in the society. Do not take advantage of them. Do not r**e or sexually mo**st them because you are in a position to help. Do not engage them in child labor, trafficking or prostitution.
Let's make this world a better place, even for the poor. God bless you as you do the needful.

Its a beautiful sight seeing successful people ride in their limousines, live in palatial mansions and have the high and mighty dine with them. We all want that kind of lifestyle. Who wouldn't?
The snag in this is that what you don't see are accumulation of years of trials and errors, disappointments, pains and failures. Nobody gets to the top by chance, it has to do with planning, falling, sweats and even regrets. The path to the top is riddled with potholes, unpaved walkways, dusts and muds.
What took these successful people to the top and kept them there is perseverance and persistence. While others mocked, had little faith and gave up, they pushed, toiled and never gave up.
So whenever you see a successful person, you are looking at a person with so many stabs, scars, wounds, injuries and heartbreaks. Really the end justifies the means.

The victories of yesterday, wherein you were met with applause, adulation, conferment of national honors are now history and stale. It is now past and you must stop relying and relishing those memories of old if you still want to be relevant today.
What plans do you have for tomorrow? The product you launched that was a success, are you already working on an improved version?
The success of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg is hinged on improvements of their products; Windows (Microsoft), IPOD (Apple), Amazon or Facebook.
The victories of yesterday should propel you to improve, innovate and do better today not rest on your oars.

You are the boss. Congratulations. You now enjoy the perks of office, a chauffeur, senior business and strategic meetings with high networth individuals. Beautiful.
The question is, "how do you relate with your subordinates?" Do you treat them as second class colleagues who must bow at the "mention of your name"? Are you high-handed, narcissist and brood no opposition?
Remember, the office you are occupying was once occupied by someone else. Never forget, one day, another will take your place. Treat your subordinates right. Pay them what you promised them. When they perform below standard, teach and rebuke them in private. When they meet targets, hit milestones or perform very well, praise them in public. Your subordinate, one day, will become a boss.
Would you be safe if he becomes your boss tomorrow?

Definitely, you will succeed if you make up your mind to. This belief, determination and persistence is the mix of your definite success. But there are a few pitfalls you need to be wary of on both on your way to the top and when you are at the top.
Try as much as you can to avoid these triplets of evil:
1. Unfaithfulness to your spouse. Divorce is bitter and expensive,
2. Wrong circle of friends. Evil communication corrupts good manners, and
3. Bribery. It's an offense to both ask and receive bribes.
Any of the above will put a dent on your character and that's what you don't want your kids to read about on social media, hear on radio, see on tv or newspaper. Stay away from these vices. They will do you no good.
A word is enough for the wise.

According to E H Chapin, "The best men are not those who have waited for chances but who have taken them; besieged chance, conquered the chance, and made chance the servitor."
Knowing the importance of calculated timing is what you need to have properly ingrained in you. While there is no perfect time, you need to seize opportunities, obstacles and negatives and turn them around for your own good.
The world is replete with stories of people who were handicapped but rose above their seeming disadvantaged positions. Helen Keller (deaf and blind), Demosthenes (a chronic stutterer), Franklin D Roosevelt (lost his legs to polio), Thomas Edison (almost completely deaf). If these persons could become great despite their physical challenges, so can you.
Rise. Take a step of faith and challenge your fears. You, too, can be a winner.

It is almost the end of the second quarter of the year. How far have you gone with the plans you made? Are you stuck between'if'and'when'? Congratulations if you are meeting your goals. Don't despair if all seem not to be going according to plan.
There are times when things seem not to go as we expected especially when they have to do with finance, career and relationship. Don't panic. Calm down. Go through your ideas. Carefully scrutinize and eliminate those items that are utopic (of course there are a few of them on your list). Prune those ideas from whatever numbers to a few (maybe 3) and work on them.
Concentrate your energy on the few and you will be amazed at what you will achieve before the end of the year. Remember, concentration on a few ideas is the difference between champions and mediocres.

04/08/2021

The success or failure of a person, organization or government is hinged on the team. Team members are supposed to offer opinions irrespective of party, age or differences. When a leader fails, the team is absolved if they did the needful. A team should not be made up of sycophants, and praise-singers.
When you select a team, they should be people of character, ideas and of a sound mind. Team members ought to disagree with you as a leader on issues that may affect you, reputation or the nation and there is nothing wrong as a leader coming down from your high horse to listen to them.
How you will be remembered will be premised on who you chose as members of your team.

02/08/2021

Every man born of a woman is bound to face obstacles in whatever form as long as he lives. Every woman who walks the face of the earth has memories of obstacles placed in her path. We don't pray for them. We will give our wealth to avoid them. However, they are always there. They are no respecter of tribe, color, nationality, religion or ideology.
Obstacles are two sides of a coin. They can either crush you or make you stronger. All great men living or dead have had their fair share of them. Jesus, Gandhi, Lincoln, Awolowo, Obama can tell you points in their lives when they were battered, bruised, beaten and almost gave up. They pushed, fought, staggered past their obstacles and today their names are written in gold and forever will be on the lips of men.
If they can triumph, so can you. You are a winner. Never give in to despair. Never give in to fear. Never give in to unbelief. Obstacles can be your stepping stone or grave.
The choice is yours.

You are not worthless. You may not have a degree, diploma or the requisite educational qualifications. You may be out of job. You may be a single mother. An orphan. A dropout. An ex-convict. No matter how low you are now, my friend, you are not worthless.
Maybe your marriage is heading for the rocks. Maybe you are verbally abused by your boss. Maybe you have even lost confidence in yourself. Trust me, my dear, you are not worthless.
In you is the seed of greatness. A potential yet untapped. An idea to help you break forth. Your size, height, color, tongue, tribe, religion may be a challenge. Rise above your challenge.
Spread your wings and soar like the eagle. Roar and mark your territory like the lion. Never ever doubt your WORTHINESS.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Serena Williams, Usain Bolt and Anthony Joshua are who they are today because they stuck to a regimen that cleared the paths to their successes. While we celebrate their feats, let's take a peek into what made them who they are.
These men and women go through grueling exercises, stretches and preparations to be at the top. They spend hours perfecting their skills and improving their acts. They endure pain while breaking out buckets of sweat during these unseen hours of their trainings.
These stars continually deny themselves unwholesome foods, drinks and pleasures so as to maintain their A level performances. What you see them display effortlessly on the field are hours of discipline. We only see their results, we are not privy to the process.
If you want to succeed, you must be disciplined. Wake up earlier, engage your mind in profitable thoughts, reduce your circle of friends and stop those habits that continually pull you down.
Self-discipline leads to Mastery. Mastery makes you a champion.
Wouldn't you love to be a champion?

29/07/2021

The characters of leaders are formed during periods of adversity prior to their ascension to office. The office doesn't really define them. Whatever actions or inactions of theirs in office was formed a long time ago. The displays are only a reaction or response to whatever circumstances in such similitude. Adolf Hi**er and Mother Theresa are perfect examples.
A leader who is passionate about helping the poor most likely was born amongst the downtrodden or must have had first hand experiences or must have seen the plight of the poor in very close situations. So the passion of such a leader towards the poor is one of love, care and concern.
A contrast will be a leader who seeks office for aggrandizement, allure and revenge. Most likely she grew up in a surrounding of pride, hate and jealousy. So when she gets into office her policies and actions are tailored towards impressing herself and her cronies, revenge on seeming and real opposition not forgetting she will have narcissistic, paranoia and predatorial tendencies.
So whatever you you see a leader do is really who he is.
