My review of Asiri Ade.

When Circuits, the new streaming platform, debuted last December, my first instinct was to test its waters with a culturally resonant film. Enter Asiri Ade—a Yoruba epic packed with political intrigue, forbidden love, and a dose of vengeance, all set against the backdrop of regal power plays. It felt like walking into one of those intense Yoruba family meetings, where every statement is loaded with tension, and every side-eye could trigger a generational feud. Naturally, I couldn’t resist diving in. And let me tell you, it was a ride—a bumpy, scenic one, but still unforgettable.

The official synopsis hints at an intricate web of romance, murder, and power struggles between two kingdoms. It sets the stakes high, teasing a suspense-laden narrative that leaves you wide-eyed and wondering, “What next?” Did Asiri Ade fully deliver? Well, let’s unpack that.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and penned by Dolapo Lannre-Badmus, Asiri Ade boldly positions itself as a tale of heritage and humanity. The story centers on Ikarewa and Iwajoyin, two kingdoms negotiating a union fraught with ulterior motives. Beneath the veneer of politics lies raw human desire, intergenerational trauma, and a masked killer haunting the shadows. The opening scene—a chief’s brutal murder—immediately sets the tone: this isn’t just about power; it’s about reckoning with dark truths. Watching that first scene, I caught myself muttering, "Who annoyed these writers?!"

From the jump, the film teases a tension between destiny and desire. Princess Oyinade, portrayed with striking vulnerability by Omowunmi Dada, dreams of love and agency amidst suffocating royalty. Her clandestine romance with Irewole, a beadmaker, is the emotional heartbeat of the story. But let’s be real—love in royal settings is never a straight line, especially with political vultures circling. Asiri Ade doesn’t let you forget that.

I said I'm too busy to watch Lisabi, right? Yinmu. My bus ride from the office to home was over an hour, so I took advantage of that time to watch it. Here is my review.

What would have made sense for Lisabi 1 and 2 is to be a single movie. I see no reason for the second part except for financial reasons.

The movie lacked depth and details; it felt very disjointed (join join here and there).

For example, the scene where Bimbo Akintola dedicated Lisabi to forest spirits was taken straight from Baahubali. Watch it and prove me wrong.

The extended fight scenes were excessive—when did Yorùbá movies turn into God of War abi Rambo? 🤣🤣. Na fight shaaaa with oríṣiríṣi effects.

Honestly, I'm tired. I’ll give it a rating of 4.8 out of 10. If you’re good at math, you can round it up to a solid 5.
