Alaafin-elect Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade: OGF’s Statement

Oyo Global Forum warmly congratulates Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade on his announcement as the Alaafin-elect by the Government of Oyo State on Friday. As the incoming monarch, Prince Owoade will occupy the exalted throne of the Yoruba people, a position of immense cultural and historical significance.

For centuries, Oyo has been a shinning example of Yoruba-African civilization and culture. This is the rich and enduring legacy Prince Owoade will inherit and defend and we remain optimistic and prayerful that he will excel in his sacred duties, promoting our culture and traditions and leading our people toward greater prosperity and development.

As a network of Oyo professionals worldwide, OGF has been a steadfast advocate for peace and development in Oyo for over a decade. We look forward to joining hands with Prince Owoade to drive progress and inclusive growth in our beloved kingdom.

Alaafin Oladigbolu’s Grandson Congratulates New Alaafin, Supports Oba Owoade’s Victory

Prince Siyanbola Oladigbolu, the biological grandson of the 40th Alaafin of Oyo, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Hakeem Abimbola Owoade, describing his emergence as a victory for tradition and continuity.

Reflecting on the evolution of leadership in the royal lineage, Prince Siyanbola remarked, “We are not in the 15th century when those who lost the throne have to move out of town before the new king would have rest of mind. I will be more frequently in Oyo than ever.”

Emphasising his loyalty to the newly crowned monarch, the prince reiterated his commitment to supporting the reign of Oba Owoade, saying: “My dear brother and the new Alaafin of Oyo, I will support you till eternity.”

Clarifying his intentions in supporting the new Alaafin, Prince Siyanbola added: “When I say I will support you as the new Ikubabayeye, it is not for any personal interest but for your successful reign. In all ramifications, God Almighty has blessed me so much that I need no one to live my life, only my Creator I look up to.”

Reassuring the palace of his availability despite his personal independence, he noted: “However, that doesn’t stop me from making myself available whenever the palace or the Alaafin himself summons me.”

Acknowledging the transformation in the identity of the new Alaafin, Prince Siyanbola reflected: “About 48 hours ago, your name was just Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade (my brother), but now, the Imperial Majesty, Oba Hakeem Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo (my father).”

Also, highlighting the importance of kinship and continuity, the prince stressed the shared responsibility of preserving the rich traditions of the Oyo Empire. He called for collaboration and unity in upholding the royal legacy.

Advising the new Alaafin on remaining cautious about external influences, Prince Siyanbola said: “Dear Kábíyèsí, my one and only advice to you is, don’t let the hungry and favour seekers poison your mind towards the Agunloye Ruling House that produced you as Alaafin. Favour seekers can lie for the nation in order to get your attention.”

Expressing excitement for the coronation ceremonies, he added: “My agbada and abeti-ajá are in the ground to cruise your coronation.”

Addressing potential challenges to the new Alaafin’s reign, the prince asserted his confidence in the judicial system and the strength of the throne. He said: “If anyone is ready to go to court, let them go.” they would become poor for life. Aláaru t'óló ún ó p'óbá l'éjó yió jé gbèse kúń gbesè ní! Closing with a pledge of unwavering support and a message of unity, Prince Siyanbola expressed his commitment to the success of Oba Owoade’s reign and the continued prosperit Oyo Empire.

Looking towards the future of Oyo, Prince Siyanbola expressed optimism about the prosperity that lies ahead under the leadership of Oba Owoade.

He believes the new Alaafin has the potential to guide the kingdom through this era of change, creating opportunities for unity, development, and peace across the land. “Together, we will ensure that the legacy of our forefathers continues to shine brightly,” he concluded.

As the people of Oyo rally behind the new monarch, the prince urged them to embrace the dawn of this new reign with respect and reverence, knowing that the strength of the kingdom lies in its unity.

“Let us stand united, not only as royal families but as one people, working towards a harmonious future for Oyo,” he said, calling on all to support the reign of Oba Owoade with unwavering loyalty and love for the kingdom.

I want to humbly submit that our Alaafin's Designate is a development oriented Oyo man and he is one of the major supporters of the facility development project of the Oyo School of Nursing. On behalf of the *Oyo Development Monitoring Team* , I want to congratulate our newly approved King who is also one of us. It's our prayers that development will gain suprasonic acceleration during your reign.
