NIGERIA OPENS LAND AND AIR BORDERS WITH REPUBLIC OF NIGER, LIFTS OTHER SANCTIONS

President Bola Tinubu has directed the opening of Nigeria's land and air borders with the Republic of Niger and the lifting of other sanctions against the country with immediate effect.

This directive is in compliance with the decisions of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its extraordinary summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja.

ECOWAS leaders had agreed to lift economic sanctions against the Republic of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

The President has directed that the following sanctions imposed on the Republic of Niger be lifted immediately:

(1) Closure of land and air borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, as well as ECOWAS no-fly zone on all commercial flights to and from Niger Republic.

(2) Suspension of all commercial and financial transactions between Nigeria and Niger, as well as freeze of all service transactions, including utility services and electricity to Niger Republic.

(3) Freeze of assets of the Republic of Niger in ECOWAS Central Banks and freeze of assets of the Republic of Niger, state enterprises, and parastatals in commercial banks.

(4) Suspension of Niger from all financial assistance and transactions with all financial institutions, particularly EBID and BOAD.

(5) Travel bans on government officials and their family members.

President Tinubu has also approved the lifting of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea.

ABSU DEP. VC RELEASED BY KIDNAPPERS AFTER N25m RANSOM PAYMENT.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of the Abia State University, ABSU, Prof Godwin Emezue has been released after spending 11 days in the hands of his Kidnappers, ABN TV reports.

Prof Godwin Emezue who was kidnapped on Friday 26th January 2024 inside a fueling Station around Umuahia North LGA in Abia State, and whisked away by his Kidnappers was released on Tuesday Night after a ransom of 25Million was paid by his Family which was a condition for his release by his Kidnappers.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 35Million from his family, they however threatened to kill him after the family pleaded with a cash of N5million.

The Kidnappers who had shown footage of how they tortured the Professor threatened to kill him if the family fails to pay N20million before the end of Saturday, the traumatized family rallied and raised the money which they gave in Cash to the Kidnappers who issued a warning against involving Security agencies.

However his kidnappers demanded an additional 5 Million, claiming that they had instructions to K!ll him but may not want to do that for the New Year, the family with the support of his Friends and Abia State University raised the money which was sent again to the Kidnappers.

As you watch TB Joshua’s documentary pls bear what am about to say in mind.

This is not me supporting him but I want to state some facts as I have been following this story since he passed.

So if your a conversant with Scoan(Synagogue church of all nations) you will know TB Joshua has wise men and disciples.

85% of these wise men and disciples are foreigners.

Before the prophet passed, these wise men and disciples were very powerful.

Most Sundays they handle deliverance, prayers and ministrations.

Many of these wise men started acting like him, some became very powerful. Some left to start their respective ministry

They said that the prophet intended they take over.

This rancor went full blown, these disciples and wise men fought Evelyn so much, they didn’t want her to even appear in the church.

They oppressed her so much that one day Evelyn woke up, I don’t know who helped her sha.

But it was alleged that she used the immigration and deported all those foreigners who wanted to take over the church from her, they way the deported all of them it was so funny.

She dealt with the foreigners and some of the Nigerians that joined the foreign wise men and disciples.

She is currently the lead pastor of Scoan, she has fully taken over the church, guess what ? The church is booming.

Evelyn has a special gift of healing, her church services are packed out just like when her hubby was still alive.

After reading this story, you should know why that stup!d story of Tb Joshua is surfacing now.

The greatest disservice some leaders have done to the political structure of Okigwe zone is alienating the youths who actually do the work. Some of these leaders (godfathers) have carried on like maximum leaders even when they are too old, frail or have become too unpopular to deliver.

Whether we like it or not, nature has designed leadership to be dynamic. Age is a constant in live, no one can run away from it. When the time comes, you will either as a result of sickness or old age give way to the younger generation. If they are not prepared through proper tutelage and mentoring, we will keep producing bad leaders.

Ikeoha is a friend of the youths. Against political advise and while recognizing and appreciating our leaders, he has insisted on surrounding himself with the youths. He insists that we can no longer survive a leadership vacuum. According to him, "the youths must be put in the scheme of things to prepare them for leadership positions"

NIGERIA: NO REAL INDUSTRIAL GROWTH WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT - LED INDUSTRIALIZATION POLICY

It is now clear from all indications that Nigeria’s economic growth has once again stalled since after the last recession that ended in 2016 or thereabouts. This new stagnation is in large measure due to the nagging issue of low industrial utilization. Industrial output, the main engine of employment has continued to dwindle in Nigeria for years now due to the persistent issues of irregular power supply, high lending rate and inadequate infrastructure. The question now is what is the quickest approach for government to adopt in order to achieve maximum industrial expansion in the shortest time. I propose government led industrialization. The Federal Government, as a matter of urgency should move quickly to identify key industrial sectors in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones where the country has comparative industrial advantage and lead an industrialization policy to boost output and expand the industrial base for increased employment. This will require government actually building manufacturing plants in sectors such as agro-allied; textile; pharmaceutical; leather and others that utilize locally sourced materials. If properly planned and executed, this policy will cost the Federal Government not more than $120 million annually. Each of the six geopolitical zones will receive $20 million in investment. If this policy is sustained over a five-year period, Nigeria’s industrial landscape and outlook will forever change. This will result in an unprecedented industrial growth and expansion that will guarantee many Nigerians, particularly the youth, a reasonable chance at employment. Yes, these manufacturing outfits will be fitted with a minimum of two power generators and with a diesel tank built at the site to ensure round-the-clock manufacturing activity, even without public power supply.

Some might wonder, and rightfully so, why I encourage government to get involved in industrial production when Nigeria is going towards privatization. I am proposing a different model. In the sixties, seventies and some parts of the eighties, what the Nigerian government did was to build and own industries. These government owned enterprises are today largely unprofitable and should be sold. My proposal deals with a new approach of “Build and Sale” rather than “Build and Own”. This will be a mercantile economic program; a concept that has led to accelerated economic growth and expansion in many Asian countries – China, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.

“Build and Sale” industrial policy will have government build industrial manufacturing plants and sale them to primarily local investors vetted and pre-selected in competitive bidding processes, who have knowledge and experience in the industries. The private investors will obtain government subsidized single digit low interest loans from commercial banks and acquire a majority interest in the companies while the government retains a minority interest. Anything short of this will further prolong the ongoing industrial underutilization for an even longer period.

Further, waiting for public power supply and infrastructure to become stable and regular or for lending rates to drop down to single digit is unrealistic and will forever delay Nigeria’s industrialization, guaranteeing continued economic hardship for generations of Nigerians.

The PDP Senatorial candidate for Imo North in the upcoming 2023 general elections, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu (Ikeoha) felicitates with Nigerians and the people of Okigwe Senatorial zone in particular on this year's celebration of Democracy Day.

Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu added that by the grace of God and our resolve to vote wisely, the Egyptians we see today, we shall see no more. He congratulated Nigerians that at least our democracy has remained uninterrupted by military coups since 1999 unlike in neighbouring West African countries.

BROTHER VINCENT KELLY ON MY MIND.

Due to the fiery brouhaha surrounding the Hush/Kyari scandal, most Nigerians and foreign watchers and followers, have failed to realise the importance of the evidence of brother Vincent Kelly who wanted to "chop" Hushpuppi's "maga" for which Mr Hush allegedly paid Abba Kyari to illegally detain him here in Nigeria as a form of punishment for daring him.

Being such an important decider in this case, his safety must be ensured to avoid story of killed while escaping or a " heart attack" or su***de. We mustn't easily forget the way and manner the president's driver conveniently died before trial after being accused of taking advantage of the Oga to get a cheque signed for him nor the way and manner one of the robbers involved in the Offa bloody bank robbery, conveniently died before trial and just recently, how the young man who allegedly attacked the Malian president while in a mosque, conveniently died while being detained before trial.

Please let Vincent live long enough to say his piece in the sure-to-come Hush/Kyari trial.

ABBA KYARI: CAREER, END SARS AND HUSH PUPPI

If any individual can assume the tirle of the biggets indirect cause of the October 2020 protests against police brutality in Nigeria, it must be Abba Kyari, the 46-year-old Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who was, till 2016, the Officer-in-Charge of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State Police Command.

The notoriety of SARS under him, as well as a few recent cases of gross abuse and killings of young Nigerians, stirred the bottled-up anger expressed in the weeklong protest.

CAREER AND EDUCATION

A Kanuri by tribe, Kyari was born into the Family of Alhaji Baba Kyari, native of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe living in Maiduguri, Borno State, on March 17, 1975.

He attended the University of Maiduguri Staff Primary School and then proceeded to the Government College, Maiduguri, where he obtained a Senior Secondary School Certificate which qualified him to study Geography at the University of Maiduguri between 1993 and 1997. Following his mandated one-year youth service, Kyari was, in the year 2000, admitted into the Nigeria Police Academy, Mudil, Kano State, from where he graduated as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Following a one-year stay in the Song Police Division, Kyari was deployed to Numan, Adamawa State, as Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), and then Commander, 14 PMF, Yola. In Lagos, he was first a 2IC, and then in 2011 he became the OC of SARS. Kyari was shot to limelight when, as commander of a newly formed Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), he nabbed Chukwudi Onwuamadike (also known as Evans), a notorious kidnap kingpin in Nigeria.

RECOGNITION AND AWARDS

Kyari, the youngest high-ranking Nigerian police officer, was nicknamed ‘Nigeria’s Jagbawa’ for his sheet of successful covert police arrest and capture operations which earned him local and international accolades. Among his several awards are Leadership and Service excellence 2011, 2012, 2013; Star Award from CRAN 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017; Triple IGP Commendation Medal for courage 2012, 2013, 2014; Triple Lagos State Governor’s award for Gallantry; Best Anti-Crime Police Officer in West Africa from Security Watch Africa; Lagos State Commissioner of Police Commendation Award for Courage, 2011; Star Award for Outstanding Gallantry In Africa, 2018, by Security watch Africa; Africa’s Best Detective Of The Year, 2018; The best Police officer of the Decade Award; 2018 HERO of the year Award by Silverbird Group; and the Presidential Medal for Courage from President Mohammadu Buhari.

RIGHTS ABUSES AND EXTORTION

However, the allegations of human rights abuses, extortion and extrajudicial killings hanging around Kyari’s neck are about a match of the stars on his shoulder.

In October 2020, Afeez Mojeed narrated to the Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other Related Matters how Kyari extorted N41million from him in 2014. According to the business man, Kyari, as OIC Lagos SARS, locked him up for 14 days, all the while forcing him to sign bank cheques, before charging him to court over trumped-up charges.

In 2019, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Amnesty International, after conducting separate investigations, accused Kyari’s IRT of gross human rights abuses and illegal expropriation of suspected proceeds of crime. In a petition to Ibrahim Idris, the then Inspector General of Police, Amnesty International said the Kyari-led team had been maltreating the wife of one Ezenwa, an alleged kidnapper killed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Imo State, while depleting his assets, which included a N220million hotel in Enugu and eight apartments worth about N180million.

HUSHPUPPI CONNECTION NO LONGER A HUSHED MATTER

While Kyari seemed to have ridden on his supercop status to cushion several weighty accusations, including that of extrajudicial killing, against him in the past, a recent report by an officer of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIB) naming him as one of six persons who conspired to fraudulently obtain over $1m from a business person, shot him back to the news. The report, released on Wednesday, detailed Kyari’s role in the crime, alongside that of Hushpuppi, a popular Nigerian Instagram sensation, and five others.

Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California had ordered the FBI to track Kyari and a senior police officer revealed, on Thursday, that the Nigeria Police Force would probe him over his indictment.

What is left to be seen now is what will become of Nigeria’s most decorated cop. And the answer might come in just a matter of days.
