To make our card playing fun yesterday, Christabel and I decided to put up a prize for the winner.
The agreement was the first person to win five games gets a pack of peanut and a bottle of Chapman's Smoov.
30 minutes into the game, I was leading with 3 wins and Christabel had nothing.
Then suddenly, Christabel started manipulation of cards.
I don't really know, but I'm sure she did dubious things like hiding cards, playing more than one card at once and also pretending to go to market when she didn't.
Soon, we equalled to 4-4.
And then it happened.
Christabel got the last win. I didn't hear word all through. Aunty kept shouting, jubilating, that for the first time she has beaten me in something.
Then she demanded for her prize. And she got them.
It was after eating and drinking that she said, "do you know I didn't use to like this drink, Smoov? I don't know why, but recently I realise that I love to take it."
That interested me. So I asked her, "what do you think changed? What do you think Influenced your choice?"
She said, "It's you. You like the drink too much and me being constantly exposed to it, and you drinking it, has made me grow to like it."
I found that more interestintg. I asked Christabel if she knew she just served a product/service marketing lesson now.
She "no" and I explained my thought.
Sometimes when we are selling a product/services to a client and they say "not interested" that usually becomes the end of that selling attempt. We would then move on to another client. Or even stop selling at all.
I must quickly say that I'm guilty of this behavior too. But I'm learning and I'm making changes.
Do you know why you see Jumia ads on Facebook after you have visited their website or app to check some items?
It's simple—
They're not giving up on the belief that you could buy their products.
Yes, you have left their website/app without buying, but they believe that with more marketing, with more exposure to their products on your end, that you can change your mind and buy.
So when a client or customer says, "no, I'm not interested," what do you do?
It's simple again—
Keep marketing to their face. Find that place/platform that you always meet them and keep advertising there.
Trust me, it's working their mind. It's registering. And one day, they'll slide into your DM and ask, "can I have your bank details?"
