Six Policemen Killed In Delta Ambush, Six Others Missing

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the deaths of six officers killed while investigating the disappearance of three colleagues in Delta State.

The Force's Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Adejobi added that six other officers are still missing and five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

PHOTOS: Borno Gov Begins Construction of Third Flyover

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has unveiled the construction of his administration's third flyover at the West End Roundabout in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Zulum was accompanied by the senator representing Borno Central, Kaka Lawan, and the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, to perform the flag-off ceremony on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a post shared on the governor's page on Saturday.

The project, which is the third by the Zulum's administration, is expected to be completed in one year.

The post read, "The flyover work was part of his election campaign to put in place infrastructures in the major cities in Borno State.

“In fulfilment of our electioneering campaign to ensure urban renewal of some major cities in Borno State, especially Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, the government of Borno State is serious about uplifting and upgrading facilities within the Metropolitan Council,.

“We have constructed two flyovers; this will be the third one, and, In Sha Allah, before we leave office, we will ensure the completion of all the structures we have initiated.

"Constructing the west-end flyover is not just for beautification, but to also reduce congestion, allow traffic flow, and create indirect job opportunities for the youth.

“The construction of this flyover is not only for aesthetic consideration. The most important thing is to reduce vehicular congestion in the area.

"The custom roundabout was the busiest before now. The construction here would create thousands of job opportunities for our teeming youths within the Metropolitan Council.

"50% of the construction funds have already been released to the contractor, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC), and assured them of prompt payment."

Nigeria Is Not Lagos, Nollywood Actor Okonkwo Slams Tinubu

Popular Nollywood actor and spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu's administration.

He said Nigeria is not Lagos where the former Lagos State Governor sits and decrees things and expect them to work that way.

Speaking on Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, which was shared on his X handle on Thursday, Okonkwo said he thought that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime was the worst until he realised that the current administration surpassed the former President in nine months.

Okonkwo said, “Anarchy looms in Nigeria. Nigeria is not Lagos where you sit down and decree things and you expect it to work that way.

“You don’t compare gold with carrots. Initially, I thought Buhari’s regime was going to be the worst but in nine months, this government has surpassed it.

“You know what it means when you place your children in order of protocol before ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. What do you call that eyesore? You are allowing somebody to come to A*o Rock sitting on the Coat of Arms to call our military men thieves.

“This government in terms of appointment is just concentrating, not even on the South West but on the Lagos axis of the ‘Jagabanic’ prodigies tainted with ‘Emilokan’ philosophies.”

Lagos Police Foil Fake Kidnapping Plot, Arrest Four

The Lagos State Police Command has foiled a staged kidnapping and arrested four people involved in the scheme.

The command's Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The statement partly read, "Detectives of the Lagos States Police Command have arrested Margret Itodo ‘f’ aged 25, Agnes Ogbeh ‘f’ aged 23, Esther Anyanwu ‘f’ aged 24 and Anthony Chinakwe ‘m’ aged 24 for faking the kidnap of Agnes Ogbeh.

"On March 19, 2024, Agnes Ogbeh, resident in Akure, had travelled to Lagos and was reportedly kidnapped in Lagos.

"The family back in Akure received a video showing Agnes and one other tied, gagged, and groaning with blood droplets around them.

"The ‘kidnappers’ demanded N5m for the release of Agnes.

Four Arrested As Police Raid Fake Drinks Factory In Lagos

Policemen attached to the Isokoko Division of the Lagos State Police Command have raided a house in Agege where fake drinks are being produced.

The command's Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a video shared on his X handle on Thursday.

According to Hundeyin, during the raid, four persons believed to be the masterminds behind the illegal distillery were arrested, and fake drinks were recovered among others.

His caption read, "Officers of Isokoko Division, acting on credible information, raided a house in Agege where fake alcoholic drinks were being produced.

PHOTOS: Building Collapses In Lagos Market Fire

One of the buildings affected by the fire that engulfed buildings at Dosumu Market in the Idumota area of Lagos State on Wednesday has collapsed.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that fire razed three buildings at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in Idumota.

Giving an update on the situation, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed, in a statement, that the fire spread to another building and one of the four buildings collapsed.

The statement by the Director, LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, partly read, "An update on the fire emergency in Docemo reveals a significant reduction in the intensity of the blaze.

"The affected properties are identified as house numbers 47, 49, and 51.

"Tragically, house number 49 has collapsed due to the fire's intensity and the close proximity of buildings.

"Additionally, the fire spread to house number 53."

BREAKING NEWS: Court Denies Nnamdi Kanu Bail, Orders Accelerated Hearing

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, on Tuesday, denied bail to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The court, however, ordered accelerated hearing of the case involved in the embattled IPOB leader who is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony.

Kanu, who was brought to the court on Tuesday, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in June 2021.

Delivering ruling, Justice Nyako held that the court would only grant an accelerated hearing in the matter and ordered the prosecution to call its first witness.

Counsel for Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, expressed his displeasure over the ruling. He said the IPOB leader’s legal team cannot go on with the proceedings if not given an opportunity to speak with their client.

Ejimakor added that it has been difficult to have a meeting with Kanu in the custody of the DSS, as their conversations was always monitored and Kanu is still wearing the same outfit which the court ordered to be changed.

He alleged unfair treatment of his client, which he said contravened the Nigerian Constitution.

He expressed the dissatisfaction of Kanu’s team of lawyers and asked a stand down of the case to enable them to consult with their client, which the court has granted.

PoS Operator Foils Customer's Attempt To Make N90,000 Transaction With Fake Notes

A Point-of-Sale operator on Friday thwarted an attempt by a customer, Linda Ihebinike, to make transaction with fake naira notes to the tune of N90,000 in Lagos State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on his X handle on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the PoS operator raised the alarm after Ihebinike attempted to use fake N1,000 notes to make a purchase totaling N90,000.

Hundeyin wrote, "A vigilant POS operator raised the alarm after a customer, Linda Ihebinike, attempted carrying out a transaction with fake N1,000 notes to the tune of N90,000. Investigation is ongoing."

A crane operator is undergoing an investigation in police custody after a passerby was killed after an electric cable drum fell on him on Ojo-Igbede Road in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State on Thursday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in a post on his X handle on Sunday that the crane operator will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for "reckless and negligent act; and involuntary manslaughter."

: Conflict Between Okuama Community In The Ughelli South Local Government Area & Okoloba Community In The Bomadi Local Government Area Of Delta State, Has Result To The Death Of Three (3) Person's And Many Others.

Three persons have died and many others injured and houses set ablaze following a bloody clash between Okuama community in the Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okoloba community in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta state.

The bloody clash which started since Thursday, SaharaReporters reliably gathered, has left so many residents homeless when yet-to-be-identified armed men in military uniforms allegedly invaded Okuama community in the early hours of Thursday shooting sporadically from a gunboat.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, the vice present general of the Okuama community, David Akata, confirmed that unknown gunmen arrived in the community at about 8am and started shooting sporadically at anyone in sight leaving three indigenes dead and several others injured.

The injured are currently receiving medication in an undisclosed hospital in the state.

According to Akata, "The armed men suspected to be Nigeria on Friday, March 14, 2024, carried out the genocide on the citizens of the community by setting their buildings and properties ablaze with chanting of war songs.

"We woke up to see our community surrounded with men in military uniform numbering in their tens and without just no reason they started shooting at sight leading to the death of three promising youths of the community and several others injured from gun bullets. The same military men repeated their genocide actions on the innocent and law-abiding citizens of the Okuama community on Friday, March 15, 2024, leaving many buildings to their rumbles as they carried offensive arson on the community buildings.
