Visually Impaired Poultry Farmer Seeks Support Amid Economic Downturn
By, Ridwan Adegboye
Olasupo Hammed Opeyemi, a determined visually impaired entrepreneur, has successfully established a thriving poultry farm despite the challenges posed by his disability. Since 2019, Hammed has skillfully reared broilers from day-old chicks to table size, demonstrating his unwavering dedication.
A graduate of the Federal College of Education Special, Oyo, Hammed ventured into poultry farming after facing unemployment. However, the current economic climate has taken a toll on his business.
"The cost of chicken feed has skyrocketed, and maintenance costs are becoming unaffordable," Hammed lamented. "I'm struggling to keep my farm afloat."
As a visually impaired individual, Hammed has limited alternatives for income generation, making his poultry farm his sole source of livelihood.
"We urge well-meaning individuals and organizations to support Hammed during this critical period," said an ex-official of the Blind Association. "His story exemplifies resilience and entrepreneurial spirit."
