OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL
DATE: THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1ST 2024
THEME: BECOMING A SON OF GOD II
MEMORISE: And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
John 8:35
READ: Exodus 33:12-17
12 And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
17 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
MESSAGE:
A son dwells in the house of God, he does not come and go, he dwells in the presence of his Father. Many people come and go from the presence of God. The sons are the ones that: abide in His presence; wherever they go, they ensure that His presence is with them.
How do you remain in God's presence? First, you don't joke with your quiet time with Him. That is when it is just you and Him in the morning, conversing. That is when you study your Bible and pray. You should start your day with Him and become addicted to speaking with Him every morning. Beyond that, don't make any decision without first asking for His input. You should ask Him for which outfit to wear, which route to take on your way to work, and so on. When you live basically on His voice, you are dwelling in His presence continually. Psalm 10:4 says that those who don't have God in all their thoughts are proud and wicked.
God must be in all your thoughts. He must be the motivation behind everything you do. Everything you do must be done for His glory. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says:
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
A son is always seeking to glorify his Father's name. He never wants to do anything that will make people say, "And you call yourself a child of God." As such, he Lives conscious of whose he is. He doesn't do anything that is outside the leading of his Father because he never wants to leave the presence of his Father.
When you read Mark 15:34-37, you will see that it was when Jesus saw that the Father had forsaken Him that He gave up the ghost. He could bear all the pain as long as God was with Him, but the moment He saw that He was no longer in the presence of His Father, He gave up the ghost. That is how addicted you must be to God's presence. It you are a son of God, abiding in His presence must be like breathing to you.
REFLECTION
How attached are you to the One you call your Father?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 14-15
AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE
HYMN 27: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge--
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

THE RIGHT OBSEVANCE OF FASTS [Isaiah 58:3-12]
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that involves abstaining from food or drink for a certain period of time to focus on prayer and seeking God’s will. The Bible mentions three types of fasts: absolute fast, normal fast, and partial fast. Fasting is mentioned over 70 times throughout Scripture 1.
In the New Testament, Jesus affirmed that fasting would be appropriate for his followers. He also made the assumption that His followers will fast 3. Fasting is an essential part of the Christian life, and Jesus understands that the absence of fasting will make us spiritually feeble 4.
The right observance of fast involves faithfully seeking God in prayer, having a heart of obedience, and paying attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Fasting should be preceded by confession and prayer. The Bible provides several examples of people who fasted, including Moses, Daniel, and Jesus. Through these examples, we can know that God grants supernatural revelation and wisdom through this practice
Here are some Bible verses about fasting that can help guide you on your journey:
• 1 Corinthians 7:5
• 2 Samuel 1:12
• Acts 13:2
• Acts 14:23
• Daniel 10:3
• Esther 4:16
• Exodus 34:28
• Joel 2:12

THE BENEFITS OF KEEPING GOD’S PROMISES
Keeping God’s promises is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. The Bible is filled with examples of God’s faithfulness to His promises, and the benefits of keeping His promises are numerous. Here are some of the benefits of keeping God’s promises as written in the Bible:
• Blessings: When we keep God’s promises, we are blessed. In Deuteronomy 28:1-2, God promises to bless those who obey His commands: “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.
• Protection: When we keep God’s promises, we are protected. In Psalm 91:14-16, God promises to protect those who love Him and acknowledge His name: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.
• Peace: When we keep God’s promises, we have peace. In Isaiah 26:3, God promises to keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in Him: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
• Eternal Life: When we keep God’s promises, we have eternal life. In John 3:16, God promises that whoever believes in His Son will have eternal life: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
• Fulfillment: When we keep God’s promises, we experience fulfillment. In Psalm 145:19, God promises to fulfill the desires of those who fear Him: “He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.
These are just a few of the many benefits of keeping God’s promises. When we keep His promises, we experience His love, grace, and faithfulness in our lives. May we all strive to keep His promises and live according to His will,Amen.

THE SYSTEM OF MERCY
One of the most well-known stories in the Bible that illustrates God’s mercy is the story of the prodigal son. In this parable, Jesus tells the story of a young man who asks his father for his share of the inheritance and then goes off to a faraway country where he squanders all his money on wild living. When a famine hits the land, the young man is forced to work feeding pigs, and he realizes how far he has fallen. He decides to return to his father and ask for forgiveness, even if it means working as a servant in his father’s house.
When the father sees his son coming from a distance, he runs to him, embraces him, and orders a feast to be prepared in his honor. The father says, “For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. This story illustrates the depth of God’s mercy and forgiveness. No matter how far we have strayed from God, He is always ready to welcome us back with open arms when we turn to Him in repentance.I hope this story helps you understand the mercy of God and how much He loves us.
The Bible is replete with verses that speak to the mercy of God and the importance of being merciful to others. Mercy is a central theme in the Bible, and it is often associated with forgiveness, compassion, and love. Here are some Bible verses that speak to the system of mercy:
• “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,but everyone to come to repentance “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
• “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Psalms 20:1-9 (KJV) The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.
Amen🙏🙏

Psalms 91:1-16 (KJV) He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.amen🙏🙏
