PRESIDENT TINUBU SUSPENDS EMEFIELE FROM OFFICE AS CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.

This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.

Nigeria's youngest professor, Barrister Aisha Maikudi, has been appointed the University of Abuja's deputy vice-chancellor academic.

The appointment of the 40-year-old professor of law was agreed upon at the 78th meeting of the senate held on Wednesday, March 22.

Barr Maikudi is also the first female law professor from the northwest region of Nigeria.

PHOTOS: Olympic Champion Chioma Ajunwa Decorated Deputy Commissioner Of Police

Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, was on Thursday decorated as a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The officer was decorated by her new boss, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba.

Ajunwa made history as the first Nigerian to win gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

As the National Youth Service Corps marks its 50th anniversary, we look back at some throwback photos of Nigerian celebrities like Davido, Taaooma, Cee - C and others in their NYSC uniforms.

The required one-year compulsory service from graduates of tertiary institutions to their fatherland came into existence through Decree 24 of May 22, 1973, which stated that the NYSC is being established with the proper encouragement and development of common ties among Nigerian youths and the promotion of national unity.

The NYSC scheme was established in an effort to rebuild, reconcile, and reconstruct the country following the Nigerian Civil War.
