Here, it is not all about inscribing in a non-conventional system of writing Oro language. We mostly welcome write-ups that will be considered educative, fascinating and innovative. We need suggestions and write-ups that will elevate the status and bring about preservation and all-round development of our dear Oro language.

NEWS RELEASE

ỌRỌ ORTHOGRAPHY HAS BEEN PUBLISHED
*The days of writing Nsiñi Ọrọ anyhow is over

The orthography of the Ọrọ language (Nsiñi Ọrọ) has officially been published by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the federal government's organ in charge of orthographies in the country. The publication is carried in the body's "Orthographies of Nigerian Languages Manual XII" of 2022.

Recall that in October 2022, a team of linguists from the NERDC visited Ọrọ for a two- day workshop to engage Ọrọ stakeholders on the proposed orthography of Nsiñi Ọrọ as compiled by members of Ọrọ Language Advancement Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, (ỌLA), who had been working on the document since February 2018.

This development means that the people of Ọrọ Nation now officially have a standard written guide of their beloved Ọrọ language. It, therefore, behoves Ọrọ to utilise the opportunity before them and take the development/preservation of Nsiñi Ọrọ to a height where it can be taught in their primary schools in line with the 2022 National Policy on Education, which provides that children should be taught in their mother tongue in the first six years of their education.

ỌLA wishes to use this medium to appreciate the Ọrọ Orthography support group ably coordinated by Engr Utin Ntofon, Ọrọn Union, titled chiefs, Ọrọ elite, our traditional fathers, our sons and daughters in UNIUYO, and indeed everyone, who in any way supported this vision.
Yak Abazi Ọrọ aga onyi ọdiọñ evu!

So much still has to be done. ỌLA intends to begin the development of curriculum for the teaching of Ọrọ Language in Primary and Junior Secondary schools. This, they cannot do alone, and so will continually need your support to carry out the tasks ahead to a logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, ỌLA thanks you once again for all you have done, are doing, and will continue to do, for our fatherland and mother tongue.

Congratulations, Ọrọ!

ỌRỌ LANGUAGE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT FOR SCHOOLS - A CALL FOR SYNERGY

In October 2021, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) were in Ọrọ, at the instance of our group, and held dialogue with stakeholders of Ọrọ nation over the development of the Ọrọ language orthography.

After the visit, we received a letter from the Executive Secretary of the body, who congratulated Ọrọ people on the successful development and approval of orthography of Nsiñi Ọrọ, in collaboration with his office. NERDC then urged stakeholders to proceed with curriculum development.

As a body responsible for the development and regulation of Ọrọ language, Ọrọ Language Advancement MPCS, is pleased to announce that plans have been concluded to commence the development of curriculum for Ọrọ language for our primary and junior secondary schools.

The curriculum, once ready and approved by the relevant authorities, will help in the teaching and learning of standard Ọrọ language. This would be in line with the recent National Language Policy approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and made public by former Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu.

The policy, which took effect from December 2022, makes children's mother tongue a compulsory medium of their instruction in primary schools. According to Mallam Adamu, the mother tongue will be used exclusively for the first six years of education and then combined with English language at junior secondary school. Apart from improving the quality of instruction at the primary school level, the new language policy might have been informed by the need to prevent these languages from going into extinction.

While we celebrate the progress we have made so far, we will like to specially appreciate the Oro Language Support Group ably led by Engr. Utin Ntofon and other stakeholders of Ọrọ nation, who have been our pillars of support.

Meanwhile, the task ahead is not just time-consuming, but also cost-intensive in finances and professional expertise. We will have to work with NERDC, National Institute for Nigerian Languages, the State Ministry of Education, the State Universal Basic Education Board, etc. The State has a policy in support of this drive. We, as ekwe must not turn a blind eye to this.

May we, therefore, use this medium to appeal to every Ọrọ indigene to support us in their respective capacities on this noble quest for the development, promotion, and preservation, of our first-line heritage, Nsiñi Ọrọ.

ÑKUGHO ORO 2023: OUR VISION IS DRIVEN BY PASSION

Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes a time. Vision with action can change the world.
- Joel A. Barker

In 2017, we had a vision, our vision centered around changing the narratives about the plight of the girl child of Oro Nation. We focused on raising and shooting them to stardom. We were very interested in eliminating the negative tags on our female folks. These feats were attempted through cultural pageantry, rural outreach, empowerment, and advocacy. That vision subsists till tomorrow.

Through these years, we have organized extraordinary pageant shows, we have hit the rural communities with different campaigns and programs, we have made cases about issues ravaging our society etc. Along the line, it was necessary to pause and recount our journey, which prompted the relaunch of The Ñkugho Oro brand after getting registered with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Last year, we had plans to improve upon the standard of our programs. Importantly, we were concerned and expressed genuine worries about the fact that the Most Beautiful Girl in Oro deserves an official car after her coronation. Fortunately for us, an illustrious son of Oro Nation graciously offered to sponsor in that regard.

This prompted us to go ahead with adverts, informing the public that the winner of our last year's pageant event would be entitled to a car. For the purpose of saving the image of our Foundation, we regret to inform the public that due to circumstances beyond control, our sponsor wasn't able to fulfill his promise. This singular reason threw our Foundation off balance and last year's event could not hold.

The vision and motivation that drive Ñkugho Oro Foundation are very much alive. We will continue to work vigorously and with dedication to ensure that our mission outlive us and generations to come.

ÑKUGHO ORO 2023:
Arising from the meeting of members of our Foundation, we have decided that Ñkugho Oro Pageantry shall hold this year. The theme of the event shall remain " Oro Girl Child: A Tool for Societal Development".

These are points to note about this year's event:
1. We will return to our former prizes for the winner and runners up, with improvement on other attached benefits (for details, see flyers in coming days).

2. New prices of forms (after downward review) will be communicated in the coming days.

3. Those who had already picked our forms to participate in last year's event are required to immediately contact the management of Ñkugho Oro Foundation for important information and guidance.

4. Ñkugho Oro 2023 shall hold by December. It will take a very different fun-filled and adventurous shape from those of previous years.

5. Please watch this space for more information about this year's event.

It is our delight to express our profound gratefulness to the following persons who have in previous editions supported us in one way or another: Sir Daniel Afiakurue (Ikpoto Oro), Engr Bobby Onofiok, Engr Nseobong Essang, Rt Hon Sir Victor Antai, Chief Windy Isong (Okete-Okete Oro), Mrs Edu Adams, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Mr Marshal Abia, Dr Bassey Ntekim, His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, Ulap Chief Asukwo Enweme (Levile), Ulap Bishop Etim Ante, Hon Orman Esin, Mr Daniel Dee-Dee Thunder, Mr Sintei, Chief Effiong Johnson, Skhindu Apothecary, Mr Nsunwara Brave, Ekeyo Foundation, Mrs Odumy Mkpa, Mrs Olayinka Inyang, Chief Mrs Janet Amba, Mr Emmanuel Inyang, Mrs Arit Igogo, Pastor Tom Dante etc. We pray God to continually bless you as you keep supporting and encouraging us.

We are using this medium also to invite partners and sponsors to join hands with us as we drive this vision to its desired destination.

Thank you!
