Heartbreaking : Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Dies of Cardiac Arrest in London Hotel While Attending Son’s Graduation.

Newsupdate has learned that Ubah died in a hotel in the United Kingdom, having arrived there two days prior. His death has been confirmed by fellow senators in a group chat, with tributes pouring in.

The Nigerian Senate has now confirmed the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in London, United Kingdom. Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu announced the news, confirming that Ubah, who represented Anambra South, passed away in his London hotel two days after leaving Nigeria for the National Assembly's seven-week recess. He was also in London to attend his son's graduation. Ubah reportedly died of cardiac arrest at the age of 52, in the hotel room where he was staying.

Senator Ubah, who recently defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contested the 2014 Governorship election in Anambra State under the Labour Party. He was also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream and a top contender for next year's Anambra gubernatorial election.

Governor Otti Plans to Turn Abia into a High-Tech Wonderland (No, Really!)

Proposed Abia Smart City Aligns with My Vision - Gov. Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the proposed New Abia Smart City project aligns with his vision for the state. As a result, his administration is prepared to partner with serious-minded investors to bring the project to fruition.

Governor Otti made this statement during a business meeting with a delegation from the African Rebirth Vision, a reputable company that builds trade, finance, and investment bridges across Africa. The delegation was led by the President and Founder, Engr. Chuka Nwokoro.

Describing the Abia Smart City project as a welcome initiative, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s efforts to transition Abia into a digital economy. He expressed interest in the company's building technology and assured the delegation of the government's commitment to further discussions to make the project a reality.

"I am quite pleased to learn about this vision - Abia Smart City, and it ties very well with our own vision," said Governor Otti. "I am also amazed by your building technology, where you mentioned you can deliver homes in two to three weeks. That is incredible and something we would like to explore."

He added, "The smart city is currently on the table. We have identified a few locations, at least two, one in Umuahia and another around Osisioma Aba. We need to sit down and look at the details."

Governor Otti also noted the interest from Nigerians in the diaspora in what was initially called the Diaspora Village. He explained that the concept has evolved to include a broader community, reflecting on how the project can be integrated with the company's proposal.

Earlier, Engr. Chuka Nwokoro highlighted Abia’s economic potential, citing its numerous mineral deposits. He stated that the company has conducted a detailed survey of the state's resources. Engr. Nwokoro assured that African Rebirth Vision has assembled top-tier global partners to deliver the project, drawing on their experience, including the construction of Sam Mbakwe Airport 34 years ago.

He praised Governor Otti's efforts in attracting international attention to Abia’s investment opportunities within just one year in office. Engr. Nwokoro emphasized the need for land and security to enable the successful ex*****on of the Smart City project.

The delegation included Dr. Khodr Akil, President of Smartmatic, and Terra Dlier, a development partner from the US, among others.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has faulted the comments credited to governors that states should determine their minimum wage in their domains.

“This notion is not only dictatorial but also undermines the very essence as well as the model adopted for creating a national minimum wage in Nigeria,” the NLC said in a Friday statement by its Head of Information and Public Affairs Benson Upah.

Labour unions, the government, and the private sector have been locked in negotiations over a new minimum wage for months.

The tripartite committee on the new minimum wage had proposed N62,000 as a new minimum wage while organised labour insists on N265,000.

President Bola Tinubu later received the report of the committee, promising to pay what the country can afford. He is still consulting with stakeholders after which a bill to enact a new minimum wage will be sent to the National Assembly.

In a meeting earlier this week, the Southern Governors’ Forum argued that the minimum wage should not be uniform. States should pay what they can afford, they insisted.

“The Forum discussed the minimum wage issues demanded by labour and unanimously agreed that the minimum wage should be reflective of the cost of living and ability to pay, and each State be allowed to negotiate their minimum wage,” the governors said in a communique.
