Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and Senate President Godswill Akpabio went head to head during the burial of the late Access Bank Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe.

This was revealed in a video shared on X on Saturday, March 9.

Fubara was seen saying: "This one has to do with our political class, what is all these trouble all about.

"You want to kill, You want to bury, what is it all about."

Akpabio on his part replied: "What is the struggle all about? I will answer you.

"The struggle, we are not talking politics. In 2006 I wanted to be a Deputy Governor, so the then deputy Governor invited me and told me that this office has no money, there is nothing in it. I don't know why you still insist on moving me from here and take me over.

"So the woman who went with me, said 'your excellency, then don't wait for impeachment, just resign since there's nothing in it'.

"And he stood up and started punching the woman, and I told him, your excellency, don't punch her, she's telling the truth. There's nothing in the office that's why I want it, because you're too big for it.

"So your excellency Governor Fubara, if there's nothing in the struggle, don't struggle."

I am willing to resign for peace in Rivers- Fubara

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he is willing to give up his office for peace in Rivers.

In a video on AIT, on Thursday, March 7, Fubara said in part: "No sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration and the reason is very simple.

"It's not political love. it's not because I want to gain any favour from anybody.

"My interest and love for our dear state is genuine. I'm not trying to say I want to be one man that will be there to decide the fate of all, No. But let Rivers state remain.

"If leaving this position is what is needed to bring more peace in the state, I can even tell you people to come and take it.

"It's not about me. You people should understand that definitely I am here, one day I will go but Rivers State will still remain."

Breaking News: Kogi Governor Announces Creation of New Ministry, Makes Fresh Appointments

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has announced the establishment of a new Ministry.

The new Ministry is to be known as Ministry of Innovation Science & Technology, according to a statement by Mrs Folashade Ayoade, Secretary to Kogi State Government.

The statement further reads “In furtherance to the establishment of the Ministry, His Excellency, Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Adeniyi Helen Aderibigbe as the Commissioner designate of the newly created Ministry.

“The Governor has also approved the appointment of Mr. Atuluku Levi Victor as the Commissioner designate of the Ministry of Transportation.

“Furthermore, the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology is now to be referred to as the Ministry of Education henceforth.

Also, the Governor has approved the appointment of 8 new State Agencies.

Those appointed are; Aishat Oyiza Omede, Director-General, Kogi State Social Investment Program Agency, Afolabi Joseph Raji, Chairman, Kogi State Scholarship Board, Engr. Yunusa Aminu Alhassan, Managing Director, Kogi State Road Maintenance Agency (KOGROMA) and Barr. Moses Okezie Okafor, Director-General, Research & Development.

Others are; Paul Peter Jibrin, Executive Chairman, Kogi State Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Aminu Abdulrazak, Managing Director, Kogi State Traffic Management Agency (KOTRAMA), Ahovi Salami Ibrahim, Manager Director, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) and Bello Salim Ogirima George, Managing Director, Agricultural Development Project (ADP).

Governor Ododo congratulated all appointees and urged them to hit the ground running by ensuring quick impact towards the development of the State.

Ajaka Wins As Supreme Court Grants Stay Of Ex*****on In Kogi Guber Tussle

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, ordered a stay of ex*****on of the orders of the Court of Appeal made on March 1, 2024, in which the inspections carried out by the petitioners before the Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal were set aside.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had earlier overruled the decision of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting also in Abuja.

However, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, and the party instructed their legal team to appeal to the Supreme Court against the orders of the Court of Appeal.

Following the application for interim stay of ex*****on made by the legal team of the petitioners, the Supreme Court decided the case in favour of the petitioners.

Moving the application Thursday morning, Chief J.S. Okutepa, SAN, leading Shaibu Enejoh Aruwa, SAN and other lawyers, urged the Supreme Court to grant the application to avoid irreparable damages the orders of the Court of Appeal will cause the petitioners.

The Supreme Court agreed and ordered for stay in terms of the reliefs sought in the motion filed on March 5, 2024.

However, motion on notice has been adjourned to March 11, 2024 for hearing.

New Year Resolution

Either toward the end of the year or at the beginning of every new year people are always eager to make resolutions on what they will achieve as the year continues to unfold.

Global Quranic Reciter, Sheikh Afif visit Daura, Salutes former President Buhari for Service to Africa

Renowned International Quranic Reciter, Sheikh Mohammed Taj Afif has described former President Muhammad Buhari as notable developer that transcends the Nigerian Boundaries extending to other African countries.

Sheikh Afif made the remark when he paid a courtesy visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, the home town of the Former President today.

He noted that former President Buhari improved cordiality among African Leaders which resulted in fruitful bilateral cooperation within the continent.

Senator Natasha advocates 100% local production of military kits

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, Senator Natasha H Akpoti -Uduaghan (Kogi Central), on Wednesday, urged the federal government to allow hundred per cent local manufacturing of military kits to generate revenue for the country.

This comes after a year the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) had hinted that the country would start local production of uniforms for its military and paramilitary personnel from January 2023.

Speaking at the interactive session on the 2024 budget between the Senate Committee on Defence and Defence Headquarters, Senator Natasha proposed the use of local industries to manufacture uniforms for military officials in the country.

"I have been going through your budget. Maybe I've missed the part that talked about the provision of uniforms for the officers; Navy, Airforce, and Army. My question is, where do you acquire the uniforms? Are they locally produced or imported? Kindly draw my attention to the budgetary provision for that, how much is being budgeted and whether they are manufactured hundred per cent in Nigeria.

"I am speaking as the Chairman of Local Content Committee. It's my greatest desire to see that our local industries are being utilised in the manufacturing of boots and uniforms," the Kogi lawmaker noted.

She urged the federal government to situate the manufacturing industries in Kogi Central adding that Ebiras are well known for their tailoring skills which in turn will help keep the job local and also generate revenue for the country in the long run.

Senator Natasha also recommended situating barrack facility in Kogi Central to improve security situation in the region and its environs.

Responding, the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru said the budgetary provision for uniforms is contained in the budget of the armed forces, he added that there is ongoing plan to revamp DICON, an indigenous industry that will employ about 1,500 people to produce military uniforms and boots.

"Already, there are local companies in Nigeria that are doing the production of boots, helmets, and some of the protective wears. Last month, the Permanent Secretary and I visited one of the companies and they are doing well, I can share the address and I will encourage you to also visit the colonies to see the level of work they are doing there," he added.

Recall President Bola Tinubu recently assented to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Bill, 2023. The new Act empowers the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria to operate, maintain, and control subsidiaries and ordnance factories to manufacture, store, and dispose of ordnance and ancillary stores and materials.

The DICON Act also established the Defence Industry Technology, Research, and Development Institute (DITRDI) to create an elaborate scientific and research-based technological foundation for Nigeria’s defence industry through the leveraging of combined, multi-disciplinary research from multiple military research institutes for application that leads to commercialisation and the development of new military technology and capacity in Nigeria.

In September, Mr President approved a $1 billion deal with India to modernise DICON’s facilities and increase its local production of defence equipment to 40% (as against the 100% local production proposed by Senator Natasha) by 2027.

Man Allegedly Takes Own Life After Losing N2.5m To Betting

A Facebook user identified as Onoh Chukwuma on Tuesday reportedly took his own life by ingesting an insecticide allegedly for losing N2.5m to betting.

Onoh had on his Facebook wall posted a message saying that it was his last day on earth and that he was going to meet his maker.

Unknown to those reading the post, he had already consumed the insecticide before making the announcement.

In his post, he thanked some individuals, saying, "Today is my last day on earth! I'm going to meet my maker. Thank you Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia, and my friends. My spirit is with you all."

Upon learning of his distress, friends rushed Onoh to Madonna Hospital, Umuahia.

However, despite the efforts of doctors to resuscitate him, he did not survive.

It was reported that Onoh had allegedly lost N2.5m to betting and could not bear the shame and pressure from those he borrowed money from.

A friend, sharing the news of his demise, expressed heartbreak, recounting the futile attempts by medical professionals to revive him.

Another Facebook user questioned the deceased's decision, mentioning that Onoh had N1m and borrowed N1.5m to play a bet that failed, leading to his tragic end due to shame from debtors.

A Facebook user, Ibeako Esther Chisom, wrote, “Onoh Chukwuma Richard, I am heartbroken. I watched the doctors and nurses giving you pressure to see if you can come back but all proved abortive and your pause dropped as the doctor confirmed you dead right in front of me and other of your friends.

“Onoh Chukwuma Richard, you really cut down the plans God has for you by taking your life by yourself. Sleep on. I am heartbroken."

Another user, Obika James Abuchi, wrote, “U had 1m and borrowed 1.5m to play bet, it failed, cuz of the shame from debtors you took your life? Onoh who taught you this? ”

Friends have since taken to his page to send condolences.
