The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three persons connected to the kidnapping of Osun businesswoman, Falilat Oyetunji, popularly known as Ero Arike.

gathered, Oyetunji was kidnapped at Temidire area, Olorunda village, Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government where she went to visit her mother, on Tuesday, August 8, 2022.

But the businessman was rescued by policemen about 20 minutes after she was kidnapped.

In a statement made available by Yemisi Opalola, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, she confirmed that Oyetunji had been pre-warned on Saturday, August 6, of plans to kidnap her.

The mastermind of the plan, Opalola revealed was one Basiru, a former staff member of Ero Arike Company, and an indigene of Iragbiji.

Two persons of Northern extraction were also involved in the plan to have Oyetunji kidnapped.

According to the statement, “It was in the early hours of Saturday, 6th August, 2022, that an informant, (name withheld) came to inform Mrs Fasilat Oyetunji, ERO ARIKE that he saw some people, led by the former staff of her ERO ARIKE company, one Basiru, from Iragbiji arranging and planning how to kidnap her, then, she came to inform the police about it.

“The Police operatives of the anti-kidnapping squad Osogbo were detailed for the assignment and the surveillance was emplaced.

“The informant was asked to play along with the kidnappers. Today, when consummating their plan, men from the anti-kidnapping squad swung into action and nabbed the three suspects while their driver disappeared with the vehicle they brought for the operation.”

Opalola disclosed that two dane guns, one long knife and a jackknife were recovered from the suspects.

One of the suspects, who inflicted an injury on himself on his stomach, with the jackknife, the police spokesperson stated, has been taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.

She, however, stated that investigation on the matter was still ongoing.

The Osun State government has warned devotees, tourists and other participants of the annual Osun Osogbo Festival against drinking from the Osun river due to contamination.

The Commissioner for Health, Rafiu Isamotu, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Osogbo.

The Osun Osogbo Festival is an annual cultural event in Osun State.

Nemesis caught up with six men Tuesday morning at the Ogbomoso Water Works while attempting to cart away equipment valued at millions of naira.

The suspects were caught with two articulated vehicles otherwise known as trailers (with registration numbers Katsina FTA 497 XA and Katsina MLF 284 XA) to transport the items and a Hayab truck to lift the materials into the trailers.

A Toyota Corolla (Lagos KTU 687 GJ) belonging to the men was also seized from them.

The drivers of the two trucks and of the hayab were also apprehended.

The arrest was effected by indigenes spearheaded by members of Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF).

The suspects were caught with two articulated vehicles otherwise known as trailers (with registration numbers Katsina FTA 497 XA and Katsina MLF 284 XA) to transport the items and a Hayab truck to lift the materials into the trailers.

“When OCYF learnt of the heinous act we swung into action by inviting men of the Park Managers led by Comrade Jimoh Aderemi, who helped to round them up,” president of OCYF, Rev’d Peter Olaleye told newsmen.

The men were caught while committing the act.

Items that had been arranged for evacuation included concrete water pipes, giant generating sets, an old Peugeot 504 car and so on.

“The pipes were already packed neatly and tied with ropes ready for lifting into the vehicles when we stormed there after getting wind of the development.”

However, the suspects denied they were attempting to steal the items saying they were auctioned items purchased by their boss, one Festus, and that the items were to be taken to Kaduna.

Channel spoke with the leader of team, Bayo Babatunde, who insisted that they were not thieves.

According to him, their boss, CEO of Naftess Enterprises, got approval from the state government, to evacuate the items, which he described as scraps and obsolete materials that had been auctioned to his boss.

Asked to produce a copy of the approval letter, he couldn’t.

One of the drivers of the trucks who also spoke with us, and who gave his name as Muntari, from Katsina state but based in Ibadan, meanwhile disclosed that he knew nothing about it except that he was contracted to help convey the items to Kaduna, 40 pipes to be loaded in each of the trailers along with other items.

He disclosed they agreed on N850, 000 (eight hundred and fifty thousand naira) fee to transport the items to Kaduna adding that they already gave him N100, 000 (hundred thousand naira) advance fee.

Rev’d Olaleye further disclosed that they first were alerted of the plan about two months ago and “so we have remained vigilant. When we got to know the suspects were around today we quickly mobilized to the location to thwart them.

“We understand that place has been subjected to serial looting like that in the past by unscrupulous elements. How can they be robbing us of our patrimony?” He fumed.

In the meantime the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigations.

The Aseyin of Iseyin in Oyo State , Oba Adekunle Salawudeen, has passed away, family sources have told Free World TV Moderator.

The monarch’s death happened on Sunday July 24, the fourth such occurrence among senior traditional rulers in Oyo State in eight months.
Ealier, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Ajagungbade Oyewumi died in December 2021, followed by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who, respectively, joined their ancestors, as the Yoruba customarily say when a monarch dies, in January and April 2022.
