I didn’t receive any money from Akpabio – Natasha clarifies

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed as false the rumors claiming she received ₦500 million from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Kogi Central senator described the claims as a complete fabrication designed to mislead the public and damage her reputation.

In a statement , Akpoti-Uduaghan categorically denied ever receiving such funds and emphasized that no such transaction ever took place.

“Let me be clear: I have never received ₦500 million or any amount from Senator Akpabio. At no time did I make any statement suggesting such.

This is nothing but a deliberate falsehood aimed at causing unnecessary controversy,” she said.

The senator expressed deep concern over the increasing spread of fake news and politically motivated falsehoods, calling on the public to disregard the claims.

She warned that the propagation of lies for personal or political advantage poses a significant threat to the country’s democratic values.

Corruption is a threat to Nigeria’s development — EFCC boss

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has said corruption threatens Nigeria’s development and vowed that the commission would fight the menace with all its might.

To this end, he has called on every stakeholder to join the commission’s crusade against corruption in the country.

“The EFCC is resolute about bringing corruption to its knees in Nigeria, and together we can make it happen,” he said.

To teach young Nigerians about resistance to corruption and allow the values of integrity, honesty, courage, and diligence to manifest in their lives, the commission has launched what it calls “Integrity Club” in primary and secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking at the launch of the Integrity Club on Tuesday in Abuja, Olukoyede, who was represented by the commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr.

Wilson Uwujaren, explained that the Club was conceived to “consciously make our children part of the campaign against corruption in Nigeria.

Three fleeing inmates nabbed as Correctional Service confirms killing of officer
Three of the 12 inmates who escaped during a jail break at Koton Karfe correctional centre in Kogi State have been rearrested.
The Acting Controller General, Nigeria Correctional Service, Sly Nwakuche disclosed this during a press briefing today at the Koton Karfe correctional centre.
He regretted that one of the officers of the correctional service was killed by the escaped prison inmates.
Nwakuche vowed that the remaining escapee will be apprehended.
He called on the general public to provide security agencies with all the needed information that would lead to the arrest of all the prison inmates who escaped from custody.

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, has struck out the charges against Queen Naomi Ogunwusi, wife of the Ooni of Ife, A popular Radio presenter Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi, Principal of Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan.
The court also ordered the release of the three defendants' international passports.
During the court session, Justice Akintola, in a lighthearted tone, advised the defendants to be guided and avoid similar issues in the future.

N’Assembly to consider Tinubu’s letter on emergency rule today.

The National Assembly will today consider a letter by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on emergency rule declaration in Rivers State.

The letter to the two chambers of the Assembly was initially scheduled for reading to the members yesterday.

In the Senate, a motion for consideration of the letter was stood down twice.

To ensure that the motion was tabled today, Senators who are out of Abuja are being recalled to attend plenary.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Jimoh Ibrahim, who confirmed the development, assured that the debate and consideration of the proclamation would take place today.

Protesters Shut Ondo Gov’s Office Over Killing Of 5 Farmers By Herdsmen
Angry protesters have besieged the Ondo state Governor’s Office at Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State capital, over alleged killing of another five farmers by armed herdsmen in the last 24hours.

The protesting farmers alleged that the farmers were shot dead in another invasion by armed herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

The protesters stormed the Governor’s Office display bodies of the casualties of invasion.

The farmers were killed early hours of today by the armed herdsmen who had about a fortnight ago killed about 20 farmers in four farm settlements in the same local government.

Commuters and motorists on Akure/Owo Road were stranded as protesters assembled in Ogbese where they barricaded the road in protest.

It would be recalled that armed herdsmen had about a fortnight ago killed 20 farmers in four farm settlements in the same local government.

House of Representatives pass tax reform bills The House of Representatives today passed the four tax reform bills transmitted to the National Assembly in October 2024 by President Bola Tinubu. The bills are the Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill. The bills were passed after they were read for the third time at plenary, presided over by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. The lower chamber had last week approved significant amendments to the proposed legislation after a clause-by-clause consideration of the bills, as presented by the Chairman, Committee on Finance, James Abiodun Faleke.
