Officers from the Nigerian Police Force in Adoff, Iba, Lagos, have refused to allow the family of late Lagos State University activist Yusuf Nurudeen, a student activist who was killed in the university's grounds on Wednesday, to conduct an autopsy on his body. Yusuf Nurudeen, a well-known student activist at Lagos State University, was killed by unknown gunmen just hours after appearing before the university's disciplinary panel on trumped-up charges that many have described as an attempt to victimize the activist. MR YUSUF NURUDEEN AKA OLOMOMEEWA, SOURCE: WHATSAPP PROFILE. An unidentified staff-activist of the University who has publicly solidarized with Mr Nurudeen was also reported to have been shot in the attack and currently in coma....

‘The Biggest Why.’ by Ayo Adene So this week, Afghanistan is in spectacular meltdown. 3 years ago, while writing a national strategy for Afghanistan, I often hung out with colleagues who have lived there for decades. They have fond recollections of its natural beauty. Just like some of my colleagues who have lived and worked in Haiti remember its scenic blue oceans and green mountains, which made the French name the island the Pearl of the Antilles....

Students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) have accused the school management of lacking respect for free speech and freedom of expression. According to a public opinion survey conducted by students, the institution’s civic atmosphere is incapable of producing ‘good’ journalists. They accused the management of constantly clamping down on dissenting voices amongst the students and robbing them of their right to freedom of association in manner of an independent student union....

The management of the University of Lagos has requested that its students pay additional fees in regard to electricity if the students are to return to campus to continue their studies. Recall that the management of the institution had suspended physical activities in response to the ravaging coronavirus on July 14 2021 after a student was reported to have tested positive for the virus. ...

If there was any Nigerian university whose survival and productive existence were always met with increased public scepticism and pessimism, that university was Osun State University (UniOsun). The reasons for this are obvious: one, the university is a six-campus institution with the attendant expenditure duplication and logistical complexity; two, it is owned by a very poor state by all standards; three, it has no known financial base other than the paltry ever-decreasing subventions from the owner-state....
