*BUGOTAKE: Students concerns and the management decision*

By Ibrahim Abdullah

The Students of Niger State College of Education, Minna have continued to express concerns on the (BUGOTAKE) course, which is newly introduced in this semester by the management of the College. The majority of the Students do not welcome the new course.

BUGOTAKE, according to our investigations, is a non governmental organization that engages in training, certifying and recruiting Youths (especially graduates) in entrepreneurship skills acquisition. We learned that the BUGOTAKE had partnered with the Management to offer its services to the Students of the College.

However, the concerns of the Students are the reason for its impositions, if really true, the fees, and its effect on the results. This were some of the questions that the Students keeps asking, and have disturbed Press Club to Provide an answer to.

Press Club on it's own cannot provide the answer, but as the Students information organization, we have the responsibility of finding out the real information. Hence, we contacted the management.

Dr. Bala A Shehu, is the deputy provost academy, in a telephone conversation with the Press Club, made clarification on the issue. He said; "the Management wants the Students to have skills, so that after school, they can be able to depend on theirselves. So the Management is encouraging all the Students to register for it." He added that, "the management have already spent alot of money with the Bugotake."

When he was asked to clarify on whether it is compulsory or not, he said; "the Directorate of Education wants to impose it. But if we can have a reasonable number of the Students, who have registered, we are ok."

Our reporter, also called the Director of the Education Directorate, Dr. Musa Zarif, but his explanations indicates that the skills acquisition is compulsory. Though, he said we shouldn't rely on his information, but refer us to one Dr Mrs. Amra.

*Students raises concerns over the purported General Tests by the management*

By Ibrahim Abdullah

Information going round that the Management of Niger State College of Education Minna, has ordered that general tests should be conducted in the College and should be recorded as C.A. This has caused panic to some of the Students who are still at home, and they continue to call Press Club to know the authenticity of the information.

The Press Club, contacted the stakeholders of the College to confirm the information.
Dr. Bala A. Shehu, is the deputy provost academy of the College, in a telephone interview with the Press Club, said the test is real and infact, any Student who did not make it with the tests in the Education and GSE will carry over the courses.

When he was asked, if the management is considering the situation of the hardship in the country, the transport fare and food stuffs prices hike. He said they are also concern about the failure of the Students. "We're also considering the failure of the Students, because if they don't attend the class and lectures, assignments and tests are going on, how do you expect the Students to pass? They will carry over courses." He concluded.

But our reporter submitted that, if the test is taken at this time, thesame thing will happen, they will still carry over the courses. And he replied; "that's why they need to rush back to the School. This is fourth weeks of resumption now, and lecturers are still coming back to complain that no Students in the class, and we want to round up the semester by September/October". He continued.
He added that it is only in Nigeria that someone will start a school and be complaining about food and school fees. "You plan for all that first."

But when we contacted the Students union government acting President also on the telephone, to know their stands about the general tests, she said, she's on transit coming back to school. So we called the Secretary General, Comr. Gideon jidi, a

While responding to the question "the benefits of the Shango area to the College?" The Dean StudentsAffairss of the College, D.r Muhammad Adamu Jebba lamented the insecurity of the Students in the area. But count the accommodation that the Students found in the area as a benefit.
He, therefore called on Government and private organizations to come and lay more foundations for hostels in the area, through the public-private partnership (PPP) to ensure adequate accommodation that will contain the Students, so that they will stay in the hostel and be safe, as he said the Students outside the School premises are on their own, that is the College authority is not liable to their security.

Conclusively, Shango is very important area to the Students as well as the Students are very important to the Shango community. And for both to continue with the mutual relationship, steps must be taken by all relevant stakeholders towards ensuring that the challenges, confronting the area are subdued, because, it is concluded that the challenges; the security, the environment and; the anti social behavior of the people in the area, has a significant effect on the peaceful coexistence of the Community. Consequently, this affects the academic performance of the Students and the economic development of the Community.

Considering the economic importance of the Students to the Shango community and the future of every society as a whole, the Parents and the community leaders of Shango must put more effort to control their wards from engaging in negative behaviors that cause violence in the area.

The Relevance of "Shango" Settlement to Niger College of Education Students

By Ibrahim Abdullah

A Gbagyi settlement called Shango is located close to the Niger State College of Education in Minna. The neighborhood is one of the oldest in Minna town. Many students settle in the area due to its proximity to the Niger State College of Education, Minna. The students can assess the college with ease through an alternative gate that is provided on the school wall facing the area.

The neighborhood merits special consideration from the College due to the substantial number of Students who live there. For this reason, the Press Club considers it vital to look into how the area affects the students both negatively and in other ways.

Due to its accessible housing, freedom, and solitude, the Shango neighborhood is attractive to many students. Others are forced to stay in the Shango region since other neighborhoods are either too far from the College or there aren't enough hostel rooms available.

However, the Students in Shango face so many challenges in the area as well as some advantages. In this Special Report, we shall examine the challenges and the benefits of the Shango area to the college and vice versa. But we will first look into how the Shango came into existence, that is, the history of the Shango area.

Shango area, which pre-exists before the College but which is a neighbor, has more than fifty years of existence. According to Galadima Paidana (the Community head), the people of the area come from kpaidana Community. The Gbagyi people of the Kpaidana were the ones that moved from Kpaidana and dispersed to present-day Barikin Saleh, Sauka ka huta, and Shango areas all in the city of Minna.

But when the Shango people left Kpaidana, they first all settled at the present central Mosque area of Minna, then later moved to the present Niger State Secretariat area, and then the old Shango area.

*Ramadan Day 5*

*Translation* of the Hadith above:

"Whoever feed a fastener, there's for him, his(the fastener) equal reward."

*Commentary;*
If you have the opportunity of feeding the person that is fasting and you did, you have the equal reward that will be given to the person that fasted.
Ibn jauzi may Allah have mercy upon him, in his Commentary said said "whoever feeds a fastener has his equal reward. So try and fast 60 days. I.e 60 days means the your own fast of Ramadan and that of the person/people that fasts whom you fed. If you add their reward and yours together it makes 60 days of fasting. In essence, you get double reward when you feeds another fasting man in the month of Ramadan.

May Allah provide us withthe ability to fast and the means to feed another fasting man. Ameen !
