For Quenching Gamboru Market Fire, Zulum Rewards 149 firemen with N14.9m

… Orders Recruitment of 38 Volunteer-firemen

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Sunday paid a ‘thank you’ visit to headquarters of the Borno State Fire Service in Maiduguri.

The visit was in recognition of swift responses by firemen who quenched a major fire outbreak at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, preventing destruction from escalating to the magnitude witnessed two weeks ago at the Maiduguri Monday market.

Zulum told the firemen he was impressed with their gallantry and for that he approved the release of N14.9 million as grants to about 149 firemen operating under both the federal and state fire services.

“I am here purposely to convey my deep appreciation to all of you for the great work you have been doing. Yesterday (Saturday) we had another fire disaster at Gamboru market and I was informed of your efforts towards quenching the fire. This goes to show how committed you are and we want to once again extend our appreciation to you”, Zulum said.

The beneficiaries comprised of 60 firemen working with Borno State Government, 49 working with the Federal Fire Service, as well as 38 volunteer-fire fighters.

Zulum directed that each of the 149 fire men be given N100,000 and a bag of rice, as part of appreciation from Borno State Government.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum during his visit, directed the employment of 38 volunteer- firemen into the Borno State Fire Service as permanent staff.

The volunteers, 20 of them with the Maiduguri International Hotel and 18 with Borno State Fire Service were offering supportive services without
receiving salaries which permanent staff are entitled to.

The governor also directed the management of Borno State Fire Service to immediately send to his office all of their requirements that will ensure the optimal performance of firemen in prevention and responses to fire incidents.

Zulum Commissions Community Islamic School

His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum commissions Salmanul Farisi Islamiya school. The school is a community based Islamic school is located at Kofa Biyu, Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum also donated the sum of 5 million Naira to the school.

His Excellency was accompanied by Commissioners, Aids and party faithfuls.

Zulum at Izge: Aids 4,000 residents; approves 6 patrol vehicles, road

… To resettle Yamtake, Bita, Modube

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday travelled to Izge, a community in Gwoza Local Government located on the fringes of Sambisa forest in the southern part of Borno.

Zulum during the visit, supervised the sharing of thousands of wrappers and shaddas to over 4,000 female and male residents of Izge.

In addition to the social support, the governor directed the renovation and equipping of Izge Primary Health Centre, and the fencing of Primary and Secondary Schools in the community.

“We are here basically to support our brothers and sisters in Izge to provide humanitarian support and to examine the capability of the institutions in this town, especially the school, the hospital and other public structures”, Zulum said.

… Six patrol vehicles for Izge

The governor directed the release of six patrol vehicles to enhance security around Izge.

The vehicles include: three for the military and three for volunteers made up of civilian JTF, hunters and vigilantes who fight alongside the military.

… Road for Izge

Governor Zulum announced his approval for the construction of a road linking Izge to some towns.

“We want to construct the road from here (Izge) to Gwoza through Bita and from here (Izge) to our own side of Gulak (in Adamawa State) insha’Allah”, the Governor said.
.. To resettle Yamtake, Bita, Modube

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum during his Wednesday trip to Izge, announced a plan to resettle displaced residents of Yamtake, Bita and Modube communities in different parts of Gwoza Local Government Area.

Zulum however, explained that all relocations will not be compulsory as IDPs reserve rights not be resettled.

The governor was accompanied on the trip by the senator representing Southern Borno, Mohammed Ali Ndume, a member of House of Reps representing Gwoza, Chibok and Damboa, Ahmad Usman Jaha,

Governor Zulum supervised ongoing renovation of Maiduguri Monday Market.
.. Direct committee to update public on donation receive.

Borno Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum is taking an active role in supervising the ongoing renovation of the Maiduguri Monday Market.

Governor Zulum was received by the committee chairman of Monday market fire Inferno Alhaji Zarami Dungus and took him around the market to see the progress of work done so far.

While inspecting, the governor was satisfied with the level of work and commended the efforts of the committee.

On that note, he directed the committee to keep public updated on the donations received after every two weeks for transparency.

Alhaji Dungus, while briefing the governor said, the disbursement of the palliatives and fund's been released for relief of the victims is currently ongoing and nearly completion.

On final note, he thanked the executive governor for his concern towards the development and betterment of Borno State.

President Muhammadu Buhari On A Sympathy Visit To Maiduguri Over The Inferno At The Monday Market

~Commissioned The 50 Megawatts Maiduguri Emergency Gas Power Plant. (MEPP)

Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum received President Muhammadu Buhari at the Air force base Maiduguri.

The President paid homage to the Shehu of Borno and also visited the Monday Market to sympathize with the people and assess the damage.

The President also commissioned the Shehu Sanda Kura, Ahmadu Bello way, Lafiya, and Mogoram roads. The
New Tashan Bama Motor Park, the Bama road Market
the Doctors Quarters at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Bolori Market road, and the Maiduguri Emergency Energy Gas Power Plant (MEPP).

President Muhammadu Buhari applauded Gov. Zulum's historical projects and added that the people are lucky to have Zulum as their Governor.

The President also sympathized with the Monday Market traders for their loss and assured them that, the government will do all things possible under his leadership to rebuild the market and help the people rebuild their lives He urged them to be patient as the government is working to ease their hardship.

Gov. Zulum thanked the President for coming to sympathize with the people of Borno and to use the opportunity to commission projects executed by his administration and that of the Maiduguri Emergency Energy Gas Power Plant executed by the federal government under the distinguished leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. And indeed Borno state will remain grateful for the support from the President.

Brief Historical of Borno
Borno had ancient history, dating back to around 8th century within the kingdom of kanem, which was later know as the kanem Borno Empire, political and economic rula-ship of sayfawa dynasty one of the oldest dynasties in the world that ruled for nearly 1000 years etc.
Immediately after the creation, the name Bornu which was a colonial creation was changed to Borno which the inhabitant refered to the geographical area covering the emirates of Borno, Dikwa Emirate, Bama emirate, Biu,emirate, Shani emirate, Gwoza emirate, Maiduguri emirate, Uba emirate.
19th Century the Fulani jihad, if was during this period that a kanumbu Islamic Scholar Muhammad Al- Amin El-Kanem with his foolwe4rs and students came to their aid of the sayfawa mai’s and droved away the fulanis Jihadist who later on mobilized again and attaced the mai’s : during this time, El-kanemi dynasty up to today they took the title of shehu and transferred the capital from Ngazargamo to Kukawa in the early 20th Century, precisely in 1897 Rabi and Arab Army Rabel in collaboration with shuwa Arbs attacked Borno in 1893 and sacked much of Borno including its capital at Kukawa and established his own capital at Dikwa & declared himself the ruler. He controlled and ruled Borno for 7 years until the European colonialist defeated Rabi and installed the back to the throne at Dikwa. The imposition of British rule brought about the relocation of the capital of Borno from Kukawa to Yerwa, now Yerwa is Maiduguri.etc

Brief History of Marghi! The Margi were identified as having four different
groups:
1. Margi Putai - who are in the west (Venghan 1970) within Damboa,
Chibok, etc.
2. Margi Babal - are on the plains and are historically linked to Izge, Mulgwi,
Gamergu and Lamang, Lassa, M***a Dille etc.
3. Margi Udzur'Ngu - are the hill Margi (Gulak, Madagali, Shuwa, Dzuyel,
Maiva, etc.) who have historically been linked to Sukur, Gudur, Hug Gi,
Waga, Tur and Fali.
4. Margi Tiwirtim - which was later known as Margi Dzakwa or Margi South
(Wamdeo, Uvu, Uba , Mishara, Betsu, Hildi and Muva).
The Margi babal and Margi Udzur'ngu have very similar language with
ignorable dialectic differences. Generally the cultures are similar with
perhaps differences as a result of the introduction of Christianity with the
Christian culture and Islam with Islamic culture. They call God 'Iju'. The
Margi Putai who are largely located in Chibok and Damboa local
governmentt areas remain distinct from the others. Their language is largely
different while the Kanuri culture has had significant influence on their way
of life. They call God 'Tambi'. The Margi Tittim or Dzakwa, on the other
hand, shares some similarities with Kilba people in the southern part of
Margi land. They call God 'Hyel'. Other historical records indicate that Margi
native authority office was first opened in Wamdeo with the office of the
District Office before it was later moved to Uba
