UJU
Episode 2
By AMAH'S HEART

Mama lash out at me, she béát me with everything she can lay her hands on after finding out that the soup wasn’t made, I ran outside, I was there until papa came back from the farm.

After two days mama received a parcel, it was wrapped in a black nylon bag, when she opened it it was a wrapper, she didn’t tell me who sent it but i know will still find out, either by insult or she’s talking with Papa or one of her friends.

And it wasn’t too long i found out.

She went out that day and came back after an hour and started calling me in her usual way, I answered her quickly, I don’t want her trouble I quickly came out from the kitchen.

she handed me something with a smile at one corner of her mouth, I gently collected and opened it, there was a fine bead leather sandals in it.

mama was still standing looking at me with the same confusing smile tucked at one corner of her mouth, I wasn’t understanding the whole thing,
why is mama smiling that way?
she hardly smile at me and now that she was doing it she’s looking like she’s up to something and the fine leather sandals was still in my hand.

I gently asked her who the sandals was for she laughed out loud, right then i knew she was up-to something,
mama can not just laugh for nothing since we are living like cat and rat.

“Obianaujunwa eeh!, if i call you, you will answer me immediately.."

“...Obianaujunwa eeh”

“hmmmm, yes mama’ I answered grudgingly.

"What’s that “hmm” for? If not that I’m in a happy mood because you will soon be out of my sight, I would have asked you to explain what you mean by “hmmmmm’ repeat that thing again and see what i will do to you.."

“...Obianajunwa” she called a loud while I was standing right in front of her.

“mama” why are you still shouting my name when I’m standing in front of you”?

“...you are very stμpid, answer me now before i sl@p the living day light out of you…"...Obianajunwa…

“yes mama” I answered quietly.

“Good! you saw the wrapper I received as parcel and now you have a sandals, they are all from Adaeze. Akunna my friend’s daughter, that your childhood friend, the one you went to secondary school with, and was also in the same class with you, after which she traveled and we haven’t heard from her. she even used to sleep in our house sometimes then, she’s back, she has returned from eko, Lagos...the happening city and if you see how big she has become, if you see the things she bought for Akunna eeh, hmm..."

"...she’s a lucky woman, she said i should give you that sandals, she bought a lot of wrapper, shoes and handbag for Akunna, Her mother. it was out of the wrappers she sent me one.."

"...I told Adaeze about you and she said you should come and see her later, I begged her to take you along with her when she’s going back and luckily for you she agreed, even her mother said i shouldn’t worry that you will go with her to Eko. later you go and see her and thank her for the sandals and also ask her when you will be leaving with her, because i can’t wait for you to be gone, so i will stop having headache because of you.."

"... she’s your age mate o… But if you see her now eeh, she's so big like your aunty. all the food you have been eating comes to your waist and eyes, I don’t know who you are gathering all that waist for… And do you see how big your eyes are?
"...just tired of seeing you stare at me with those big eyes of yours. I will tell your father about your soon to be journey once he comes back. Just get yourself ready.."

I thought she was done talking and was about to gasp out in relief but she continued

"..See Adaeze is bringing things for Her mother Your Own is to be eating my food and getting bigger eyes and waist, just being us3less to me. do and leave this house so that i will see road…"

"Mama no problem, I will go and see Adaeze.." I quickly replied before vanishing from her presence.

I later went to meet Adaeze that evening and she was happy to See me. she filled me in with Lagos life, and said i will enjoy every bit of it.

she told me she’s a model which i didn’t really care about, all that matters to me was I’m leaving and going far away where i won’t fight with mama again, the next time she will See Me, I will be a totally different person, a daughter she will be finally proud of.

i started counting days to the main day that me and Adaeze will be leaving.

I heard papa shouting at mama that night, asking her if she knows the kind of work Adaeze does, mama was challenging him and Papa couldn’t hold it he came to wake me up.

I was actually pretending to be asleep, he gently asked me if i really want to go with Adaeze or is mama that was driving me away, I assured him is my decision and not mama.

I know i will miss papa but it won’t be much because my mind will be focused on making it big.
I was so happy that Ada, as she’s fondly called came to take me out of this village where i will no longer hear mama call me “Obianaujunwa”

I will probably change my name to something sweet to hear, I will think of a name later.

The joy in my stomach didn’t allow me to eat much for two days, even the main day i was leaving I didn’t eat.
I was so happy as i hard mama say “Obianajunwa journey mercy and don’t come back to this house empty handed o!

I knew that will be the last time in two or three years or even more i will hear her call me that name again.

UJU
Episode 1
By AMAH'S HEART

Today is another day, another day to face mama, another day for her to remind me how my mates are making it and I’m here eating her food, another day for her to condemn all my good effort.

nothing about me ever pleases her,
papa on his own side is always confuse on who to support,
mama will verbally abuse him if he tries to take my side, papa is even tired of the constant shouting from mama.

He spends more time now in his farm yard with my two younger brothers just to avoid all the chaos.
my sister, Oluoma, is not exceptional, but hers is better because she seems to be mama’s favorite.

I have grown thick skin, if mama like, let her talk from now till tomorrow or beat me from now till tomorrow it won’t break me.

her beating is even better sometimes because her word can cut through me like razor blade, sometimes i just wonder if she’s my real mother,
if not that I’m her carbon copy in looks and my birth picture was evident enough i would have doubted it.

What can i do to please her, why is she always harsh to me and calm with my siblings?

Today, as she was going out she told me to climb up the oha tree and the leaf, after which i will make soup with it,
even my brothers don’t like climbing the tree because of those wicked ants in it, one bite from them will make you see stars,
how could mama tell me to climb this tree, get the oha leaves and make soup with it before she comes back.

I have being standing by the oha tree looking at it and wishing some kind of magic will happen, the tree will just fall by it self, so that mama will stop sending me up there.
I know she does it on purpose just to frustrate me, but i don’t care all i want is for her to leave me alone, if climbing this tree will make her happy, so be it, although i wish there was a male figure around, who can help me out here.

I decided to check through to see if i will be lucky enough to see somebody, I saw Chico, one of my brother’s friend passing by, I started thanking God within me.

I stood outside and beckoned on him to come and he did.

“Aunty Uju good Afternoon" he greeted.

“how are you Chico..?

I didn't wait for his reply before I continued
"...biko, come and help me plug some leaves from that our Oha tree.."

“aah! nooo I can’t. that tree that is full of tiger ants, I can’t climb it. there was even a day that Ejim, your brother asked me to help him climb it and i did, my whole body was cover with those wicked ants, my mother has warned me not to ever climb that oha tree again and even on my own. i can’t, send me something else i will do but not to climb that tree…"

“bikonu, Chico please… Help me, Ejim is not around i would have asked him, I’m the only one in the house and i want to make soup, don’t worry i will give you something if you help me” I pleaded.

“Aunty Uju, sorry, i can do any other thing but i can’t climb that tree and i don’t want to disobey my mother…"

“okay o, no problem na”

I checked with two other near by neighbors but no one agrees to help, i returned back to the house disappointed, I have no choice than to climb the tree.

I gently climbed the tree hoping and praying that the ants will be asleep, I didn’t bother checking for the good leaves, i just quickly cut down anything I could lay my hands on, when I go down i will select the good ones.

I was rushing as fast as my hand can get to, I didn’t know that the ants had gently entered my cloth, when they entered I didn’t even notice.

It is as if they planned it at the same time, they started firing me, my back, my bu**um, my stomach, my laps, all my body was on fire.

I almost fell off the tree as I managed to climb down, I quickly ran to the back yard and took off my whole clothes.
I was scratching all over, I shook some of the ants off my clothes.
I covered my hair before climbing yet they still manage to enter, I was still battling with them when i hard my name, mama was back.

“Obianaujunwa, Obianaujunwa eeh” is she deaf, where is that girl, this girl will not k¡ll me in this house. is this the oha leaf i asked her to cut since and make soup that is lying on the ground….?
"...that means this girl has not even started cooking yet, she’s is just cutting the leaf now, since morning. she has not even make the soup…. No…it can’t be true, maybe she’s has made the soup and this ones on the ground is the ones she plugged to give the goats..."

"...where’s this girl, have she gone deaf…can’t she hear my voice, Obianaujunwa e, Obianauju eeh!

I listened to her call me repeatedly, I wasn’t scared of her beating or scolding I was rather angry because mama was always calling my full name on purpose, knowing well that i håté it, I like being called Uju instead of my full name, the name makes me feel ashamed.

Especially the way mama calls it and will deliberately do it to spite me, papa calls me uju and my siblings too except mama,
and if my siblings wants to look for my trouble they will call me exactly the way mama calls it “Obinaujunwa e ” which will make me chase them and they will run into mama’s arm, and mama will dare me to come close to her and receive the beating of my life.

The ants bite wasn’t as painful as mama deliberately calling me now, I wonder why they didn’t give me a name like ‘Chioma, Ijeoma or even ifunanya which means love or better still one of those fine English names like Stella, Linda, Anabel or Mary.

I gently wear my cloth and came out to face mama, on seeing me she quickly stone me her foot wear, asking me why I didn’t answer her since she has being calling me.

I know how to dodge her whenever she throws anything at me.

so i dodged it and i know it pains her whenever she misses her target which is me.

What mama doesn’t know is that she makes me stronger everyday by treating me that way or even trying to call my name.

I know she's going to ask me about the soup which I'm yet to even start.

I wish I'm a magician but I'm not and nothing can save me now
There's a whole trouble loading for me.

MOYO'S REVENGE

PART 2
So I resumed at her shop. I arrived early as the shop wasn't that far from my house, when I got there I found a broom outside and swept the place clean and then I sat down and waited for her. She had two apprentices so they also came and joined me outside and we started discussing general topics,at last after an hour she arrived and dishes out instructions. She introduced me to the two girls. The girls are of the same average height and should be in their early 20s. Their names are Uche and Efe. While Uche is from Abia she speaks Igbo while Efe is from Edo state. I noticed Uche was a kind of rough and nonchalant girl while Efe was the cool type. After a while customers started troping in to make their hair. Uche started making the first customer's hair as she was already an expert while Efe and I stood by watching her. I noticed mummy Nife was sleeping and I wondered why she would be sleeping early in the morning. She woke up one hour later and by then we already had two customers waiting and that was how she started making their hair. Soon it was 7pm and we started packing so we could leave and then a young man walked into the shop and started talking to Mummy Nife. After a while the guy went and stood outside. “Uche do the needful” mummy Nife said. Uche hurried out and met the guy and they left. Soon mummy Nife left and I expected Efe to lock the shop but she sat down. “ Efe lock the shop let go I thought we are done for today” I said.

“ No, we are not leaving now, we will wait for Uche,” she replied. “ What for? I thought she left with her uncle, it was dark already” . Efe started laughing, she laughed so much that she held her tummy. I became angry.

“ That's not her uncle, that guy is a madam client and Uche has just gone to perform the service the man needed. So we will wait for the man to bring her so we can go home together” Efe said . “What sort of service is that?” I asked Efe.

Please know when a person needs salvation and when they need marriage.

This is becoming a big problem in the faith, someone wants to marry a drug addict and persuade him to become born again. That is an error due to misplaced priority.

It is for this reason the Bible says we should love our neighbours. God did not say marry your neighbour, He said to love them, because agape in it's pure form is capable of leading anyone to the grace of Christ WILLINGLY.

But, when you think that person can come to Christ because he or she wants to marry you, it means you have taken the place of Christ by making loving you a priority over loving God.

May I remind you incase you must have forgotten, the Gospel of Jesus gets people saved, not the Gospel of romance.

You can lead that person to God without any strings attached, this is how real change is achieved, one where you are not the condition for being born again, but that the person is willing to repent from their ill ways and be united with Christ on their own, without you being their reason for repentance.

If he or she is pushing to be born again just to marry you, then you are preaching the Gospel of self.

Remember: you did not die for nobody dear brethren. Help that person find God and then they can find you from a complete state of rest.

This is why many people end up in bad marriages, the brethren that joined the prayer team as a result of your persuasion has not prayed for 7months since after the wedding. Why should they pray? When you presented yourself as the trophy that comes with choosing God.

The order is simple; if anyone who isn't born again is interested in you, or you are interested in that person for marriage, first extend a hand of friendship to that person and genuinely point them to the cross without your feelings getting in the way. If you can't trust yourself to do it without mixing up date nights and suya joints, point them to someone else of the same gender who can help lead them to God.

Then stay friends to observe their progress in the new life of Christ they have found, before making your romantic moves to ask them out for marriage.

Remove yourself from the picture to help them find Jesus genuinely on their own, before finding you.

Do not take the place of the Holy Spirit in anyone's life.

One thing about romantic repentance is that you become the condition for their staying in God. The day your attraction ends, their relationship with God ends also.

The Lord will never commit a soul to you because He wants you to get married.

THE WORST FRIEND

CHAPTER 2

One fateful Saturday, Onyema decided to invite Amaka for dinner at Megastar hotel located at Nwofe which is the most developed area around.

Amaka was so much excited that she couldn't hide her happiness and decided to tell her friend about it and insist that they should go together.

At Megastar's hotel, Onyema is already seated, drinking Desperado when Amaka came inn with her best friend Cynthia.
She went straight and huge him and seat beside him while Cynthia makes herself comfortable with the other seat.

The waiter came inn shortly, and the both Amaka and her friend ordered for champagne and fried Chicken.

Cynthia sat quietly on her chair, her gaze fixed on the two lovers. Amaka was nestled comfortably in the arms of Onyema,

The familiar ache in Cynthia's heart returned as she watched them laugh and whisper sweet nothings to each other. She had always known that Amaka was beautiful, smart, and kind - everything a man could want in a woman. But Cynthia never expected that the man she had been dreaming about would fall for her friend.

Cynthia had put on a brave face when she found out about their relationship, telling Amaka that she was happy for her and that she deserved all the happiness in the world. But deep down, she couldn't help but feel a sense of loss and betrayal.

As she watched Onyema gently stroke Amaka's hair, Cynthia couldn't help but wonder what could have been. Would he have looked at her the same way if he knew how she truly felt? Would he have held her hand and whispered sweet nothings in her ear?

Cynthia knew that she couldn't let her feelings for Onyema ruin her friendship with Amaka. But how could she move on when her heart was still stuck in the past? And more importantly, how could she ever forgive herself for being such a bad friend?
She couldn't help but feel a strong pull towards him. She tried to focus on her own life, going out with her friends and focusing on her career, but no matter what she did, she couldn't shake off the thought of Onyema.

She started paying closer attention to Amaka and Onyema's relationship, trying to figure out what it was that made him fall for her friend. Was it her bubbly personality or her infectious laughter? Whatever it was, Cynthia was determined to find out and use it to her advantage.

Cynthia started spending more time with Amaka and Onyema, hoping to get closer to him. She would go out of her way to make him laugh and would often find herself in conversations with him, even when Amaka wasn't around.

As time went on, Cynthia started to notice that Onyema was paying her more attention. Her heart raced every time she received a message from Onyema asking if they're okay, and she found herself constantly checking her phone, hoping for a new message.

One night, after a particularly long day at work, Amaka received a message from Onyema, asking if she wanted to grab a drink with him.
She said that she's a little busy but her friend Cynthia will come over.

Cynthia hesitated for a moment when Amaka told her about going out with Onyema , knowing that it was a bad idea, but she couldn't resist the opportunity to spend time with him alone.

They met at a quiet bar, and Cynthia found herself opening up to him in a way she never had before. They talked about their dreams, their fears, and their hopes for the future. As the night went on, Cynthia felt a connection with Onyema that she had never felt with anyone else before.

As they said their goodbyes, Onyema leaned in and kissed her. Cynthia was taken aback at first, but she quickly found herself kissing him back. She knew that she was betraying her best friend, but she couldn't help the way she felt.

But Onyema couldn't even think that Cynthia is up to something else, he knows her as Amaka's friend, and he saw nothing wrong by giving her a goodbye kiss.

Cynthia went to bed that night feeling guilty and confused. She knew that she had made a mistake, but she couldn't deny the fact that she had feelings for Onyema. She couldn't help but wonder if there was a way to make things right, or if she had already lost everything that mattered to her.

As she lay in bed, Cynthia realized that she had become the bad friend that she never thought she would be.

THE WORST FRIEND

CHAPTER 1

Amaka and Cynthia had been inseparable since childhood, their bond forged through years of shared secrets, laughter, and tears. They were the sisters they never had, each other's confidantes and support systems. But as they grew older, their lives began to diverge, taking them down different paths and presenting them with new challenges.

Amaka had always been the more reserved of the two, content with her simple life and content with her small circle of friends. But everything changed when she met Onyema. He was charming, confident, and everything she never knew she wanted in a man. From the moment they met, there was an undeniable spark between them, and Amaka found herself falling harder and faster than she ever thought possible.

Onyema is a very handsome man, from the village of Nkoroma Nkaleke.
He is the dream of all the girls in the village, but Onyema's eyes captured Amaka the most beautiful girl in the village.

Cynthia, on the other hand, had always been the more adventurous of the two. She had a string of boyfriends, and was always on the lookout for the next exciting thing. But despite her outward confidence, she had always had a soft spot for Onyema. She had secretly harbored feelings for him for years, and seeing him with Amaka was like a dagger to her heart.

As Amaka and Onyema's relationship blossomed, Cynthia found herself struggling to keep her jealousy at bay. She couldn't understand why Onyema had chosen Amaka over her, and she found herself questioning everything she thought she knew about their friendship.

But despite her feelings, Cynthia knew that she couldn't let her jealousy come between her and Amaka. After all, they were best friends, and had been through too much together to let a man come between them.

Or so she thought. But as Amaka and Onyema's relationship deepened, Cynthia found herself wondering if their friendship could survive the test of time, or if she would lose the one person she had always been able to count on.

Was their friendship strong enough to weather the storm, or would Cynthia's jealousy ultimately tear them apart? Only time would tell.
