I had just gotten out from the bathroom that evening, turning the k**b of my bedroom's door, I saw my phone dancing vigorously to its own rhythm on the bed- it was a call. But before I could pick the call, it ended.

It was a call from an old friend, a classmate back then in school to be precise. I wasn't sure if I should call him back or not because I was not ready for any fun talk that evening. Apparently, I had just finished crying myself to stupor and I had gone to clean myself up after I had exhausted myself. However I called him back, the reason being that its been a while we had spoken so I wasn't expecting him to call because of something unserious.

“Guy, Tolu is dead,” he told me when he finally picked. I thought my call had been diverted so I hung up without a word and called again. His tone was more sober this time, and then I knew it was real.

Tolu was our friend in school. Obviously the most intelligent guy in class. Everyone envied his intelligence and also the fact that girls drool over him due to the same reason. No lies, he was one of the reasons why I had cried earlier that evening, he was in his final year in the university and there I was, a yearly subscriber to JAMB.

I had deliberately stopped talking to lots of my mates out of envy and anger. In as much as I couldn't cut ties with Tolu, I had mischievously avoided having conversations with him several times due to shame and regret.

But now Tolu is dead. The person that I envied the most, always wishing I was him. That night, for the first time, I wished I wasn't him. I prayed to God for forgiveness because I knew I had been ungrateful.

I went to bed with a heavy heart. One because I lost a friend, secondly because I had been ungrateful. I would have been dead now, if my wish had been granted.

Few weeks later, I got admitted to the school of my choice and the course of my choice. Something I had waited for all the while, something that had made me made negative utterances to God.

Then I realized that in life, everyone has their appointed time. Everyone runs a different race at a different pace. Do not envy or mock the present situation of someone when you don't know their end yet.

Some people are on a fast lane, some are on the not- so- fast lane. Do not envy anyone because you don't know the end of their journey. Do not be upset with yourself because you don't know what greatness lies ahead of you.

Just pray. Stay focused. Do not lose hope. Never doubt God. Keep working hard.

YOU WILL GET THERE!!
HAPPY NEW WEEK FAMZ❤️

Remember you had a new year resolution at the beginning of the year? How many of it have you achieved?...well that's a discussion for another day.

But as you go about your business for the new week, do not undermine the power of goal setting. There's a higher chance of accomplishment when you set goals and you stick to it, giving it all it takes to make it become real.

And finally, consistency is one of the keys to goal achieving. Keep showing up no matter what. Let your motive keep inspiring you to try harder.

It's always POSSIBLE. Good morning wonderful people. Have a lovely week.💖❤️

So that afternoon, I was seated at my shop resting and patiently praying for customers to bring phones for repair.

Not too long, it seemed as if my prayer had been answered, as a young lady approached my shop. Then I said in my mind, "God has not only answered my prayers, he has brought me a beautiful customer. Make she sha carry money oo."

Upon seeing her, I composed myself on my seat, adjusting my sitting position and stylishly hiding the cup of garri that I took earlier.

The young lady brought out her phone, it was an iPhone X. I began to calculate how much o would bill her when she started to highlight the difficulties she's facing on her phone.

"I want to change the battery, the screen is faulty too," she smiled. "It will cost you 45k ma'am," I told her.

As if stung by a bee, she screamed at the mention of the price. I thought she wasn't ready to pay so I decided to walk into the shop when I felt an heavenly touch on my shoulder.

"Uncle, come naw...be patient naw." She said these while her second her unapologetically found it's way onto my arm. I didn't realize I had began to smile foolishly until she said, "you have a cute smile."

"Don't worry, beautiful. Just give me 15k, I will add the rest." I said while trying to plant a kiss on her lips.

I had began to kiss her when I felt something loud on my cheeks. "Idiot, you have been sucking your brother's used pampers since."
Upon waking up, I realized I have been tired and slept off on the cushion chair in the sitting room, only to have fallen beside the pampers.😪😪

ALWAYS pray before you sleep no matter what...e get why😂😂

People who work where you work are your colleagues

People who live where you live are your neighbours

People who like what you like are your associates

People who hate what you hate are your comrades

People who support a politician you support are your constituency

NONE of them are automatically your friends.

A friend is for you irrespective of where you work, and live, or who you like, hate or support.

Therefore, save yourself from stories that touch and compartmentalise your relationships accordingly.

So there is this friend. While in school, for every of his holiday, he would spend it at his Big sister’s house, which also is in the same city with that of his Dad.

He is the last born. After school, he returned to his Big sister’s house. He was helping out with the domestic works and also look after his nephew and nieces. He would bath for the kids, prepare food for them, take them to school and also go and bring them with the car.

Husband to big sister was a pilot. So most of the time, he is not always around.

Later, he went for service. He returned and was still helping out with domestic work as he kept managing there till he would get a job.

After a year, he was unable to get a job still. So he thought of other ways to get engaged. Then the job of Uber came to mind.

He called his big sister. Shared with her his inability to get a job and the need to start something as he is not getting younger by the day.

There were 4 cars in the house. He asked big sister if she can help talk to her husband to please release of one the cars to be able to do the Uber job.

Big sister replied that her husband would be furious, that he doesn’t play with his cars and the matter can not be presented to him as he doesn’t like carrying other people’s burden apart from his family. He explained that the car would be taken care of and persuaded her to still help tell her husband. She said no!

So, he kept on being at home and also continue with the domestic.

One of the days, the man was at home and he reasoned why it should be hard for such request to be presented to a man that is always jovial and friendly. The man at different times had given him cash and clothes. He kept wondering.

Following, he approached the man and he explained to him that he would need his help as he has been unable to get to a job. He asked him if he can release one of his cars to him so he can run the Uber job.

The man said, yes. He was happy to have heard such an idea and he gave him the option to pick any of the cars that would suits the work. He told him to meet his Big sister as she controls all the cars in the home and also with the keys.

He said, he should have discussed it with his sister and do not need to bother himself.

This my friend was super joyous. It was an unexpected outcome.

The following day, the man was off and big sister sent him packing.

He returned to his Dad house which is not also far from where his big sister lives.

Big sister came home to ‘rake’. He told everyone that his brother wants to break her home. And so, she banned him from visiting them.

Months later, he got a call. It was his big sister’s husband. He asked why my friend had to leave without telling him. Then he asked if he had seen a job because their discussion was to take one of the cars for Uber. He said no, that he is into photography. The man requested he come to see him. He replied that his sister already banned him from coming. He asked why? He said he does not know.

The following day, the man requested for his account details and sent him 1.5M to get a car for his Uber. He told him not to tell anyone. My friend only told his mom.

That was year 2018. 2019! the guy traveled out of the country.

Big sister’s husband died same year 2019.
She faced so many battles from in-law. That the only thing left is the house.

Presently, guy is the one responsible for the upkeep of his nephew and 2 nieces as he sends money home.

This happened in Lagos. Fagba to be precise.

We sit there with our hearts undefiled
Our gaze fix upon the sky
Our expectations are great and high
As the evening gives way for the moon of the night.

His touch on me is soothing
His eyes with passion is burning
Amidst the talking, shying and smiling
Our world looks so fulfilling.

I wonder if what I feel is Love
I have just met him a few days before
I'm so high yet without a taste of liquor
His presence around me gives room to succor.

There's no harm in trying, they often say
Even if it's lust, I'd enjoy today
My sun shines now and I want to make hay
Gently on his shoulder I put my head to lay.

Do you believe in Love?😏

23/04/2024

WE ARE NIGERIANS AND WE REPRESENT OUR HERITAGE.

Nigeria is a country that is blessed with not only many talented citizens but also mineral resources. It is no fallacy when Nigeria is being referred to as "the Giant of Africa."

The fact that Nigerians stand out in almost all sectors of life is a prove of our versatility. When you talk about Sports, Nigerians are making waves, talk about Education, Nigerians are excellent, talk about breaking and setting Guinness world records, Nigerians aren't coming last.

We are unique the way we are. But it is unförtunate that western indoctrination has taken over our heritages. We now want to behave in the western way. We emulate the western dress sense and call it fashion. We forbid our culture, call it "old school" and embrace the western culture, not mindful of the hârm it has caused, especially in the demoralizìng of our society.

It's saddéning how we look down on anyone who can communicate fluently in their native language but not English language, and applaud anyone who speaks English language well, but have no iota of knowledge about their native language. We have forgotten so fast that English language is a borrowed language which manîpulates itself to become our official language as a result of colon!alism.

This is not to say learning English language is bad, but this write up is advocating for the embracement of our native languages, even as we navigate the process of learning our official language. People who hold their mother tongue in high esteem should not be looked down upon. We should be proud of our colour, languages, culture and heritage.

Let's embrace our culture.
Let's advocate for our heritage.
Let's lay a good legacy for the younger generations.
Let's revive, reignite and rekindle our cultural heritage.
Let's create a better Nigeria.

Together we can build the Nigeria of our dream.

23/04/2024

My phone rang for the sixth time in the last 35minutes. I didn't bother to check whom the caller was as I already knew who it was; James, my impatient friend.

A colleague at work is celebrating his wedding anniversary, and James and I had promised to grace the occasion in full splendour. Unfortunately, I woke up late due to the heavy traffic that I had to combat the previous evening.

The first thing I looked at when I finally opened my eyes that morning was the wall clock. It was twenty-five minutes past 7AM, and instantly I jumped up from the bed because, I had just thirty- five minutes left.

I hurried through my bathe and observe the necessary routine. I picked up my phone to give James a call of awareness of my coming when I saw his missed calls. He didn't pick so I assumed he was upset.

Fee minutes later, I was at Jame's place and we were ready to hit the road on our mission to showcase our attires at the occasion and have a lot of fun. Barely five minutes into the road, I realized I had forgotten to pick my phone after my failed attempt to reach out to James.

I pleaded with James that I had to drive home to pick my phone. He has always been an impatient person so I wasn't surprised at his murmur and refusal. After several failed plea, James asked that I drop him while he book a ride.

Left with no choice because, my phone was of great importance to me, I dropped James and went to pick my precious phone. The journey back to my house is less than 15 minutes but James would not listen.

I bolted into the house as fast as lightening, took my phone and in no time, I was on the road again.
Everything was going smoothly and I thought of how I was going to execute my plan of fl!rting with numerous girls at the occasion and probably having a great night afterwards, when I saw a light smoke accompanying a fiery fire ahead of me.

I pulled my car to a halt, alighted to know what was happening. Everyone were already giving their own version of the incidence when I saw a familiar figure, laying helplessly and l!feless on the floor not so far from the fire.

I wiped my face to be sure of what I saw. James, my friend laid l!feless on the floor. His glamourous attire soaked in bløød. I later found out what happened. The car conveying James had tragically collided with another reckless driver on the highway, and what came next was a fire explosion, which claimed the lives of everyone in both vehicles.

I shook my head, and I suddenly realized the reason the for the inevitable delays we encountered earlier. It was to save us from eternal delay.

God was only trying to save us from danger and he was doing that using the delay in disguise.

If only James had been patient. If only he had listen to my pleas.

If only... If only...

As you go out today, please be watchful, careful and be prayerful. Listen to your instincts and inner voice.

I love you all.🥰❤️

On the evening of 17 November 2020, after paying for my cable subscription, I stopped to see a pastor friend. I'd like to share the experience again.

Mary, his chef of ten years, followed him as he walked to his car, and he stopped when he saw me approaching.

"Beck, my brother. You didn't care to call me when you returned to Lagos. I'll dash you one evil spirit now to possess you."

We laughed, and he told me he was headed out to bless a new shop opened by a church member. As we discussed beside his car in front of the church, a random man approached us.

He fell straight on his knees and asked the pastor to pray for him because his family was hungry, and he had no hope of what they would eat that night. The pastor asked how many were in the family, and he replied four: him, his wife and two kids.

Mary, the pastor's chef, whispered something into the pastor's right ear, and he said it didn't matter. "Whether he is our member or not, God listens to all prayers."

The pastor stretched out his hand over this man's head as he knelt and started praying for him. After about 20 seconds, the pastor hissed, stopped praying and told the man to stand.

"You said food is the problem, right?"

"Yes, man of God."

"I don't need to disturb God." He asked Mary if the jollof rice for lunch remained, and she nodded in the affirmative.

"Please put enough in a takeaway pack for this man and his family. Enough for them to eat today and tomorrow. I cannot be disturbing God for something I can handle."

As Mary walked away, the pastor's phone rang, and he excused me to answer the phone. I quickly followed Mary, squeezed some Naira notes into her hand and told her to add it to the food package for the man and his family.

I joined the pastor in the car, and he dropped me in front of my street before proceeding to his destination to bless the new shop.

His actions made me happy, and the point he stopped in between praying made me laugh. He appeared angry and troubled that our people pray to God for the most basic things.

I'm grateful the pastor also listened when he heard God's voice in between the prayers. I firmly believe it was a good spirit that told him to pause first and think about what he was asking God for. In that moment, he knew that God cannot do for us men what he has ordinarily given us the power to do for ourselves and our fellow humans.

This lesson is worth sharing with your friends and loved ones; if you can do something for someone, don't tell them to pray about it. You may be the answer to the prayers. A little kindness can go a long way in healing hearts. I know this because people have shown me massive love and support throughout my life.

When you can, lend a helping hand in any way you can.

Till we get to the Promised Land, I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.

CROSS ROADS OF LOVE

CHAPTER 1

I had been staring at myself in the mirror for about twenty minutes now. I never knew it was possible for one to be so awed by one's beauty. I knew I was beautiful. Maybe no, people say it to me.

You might have been wondering. My name is Lilly. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Johnson. You will get to know me better with time.

“Latest bride. You're finally going to enjoy it tonight,” Clara toted me back to the moment with her words. Clara is the only friend of mine. She was right anyway, it was my wedding day and I had so much anticipated it and I couldn't wait for Tyler to make love to me.

I gave her a serious look as I walked to sit beside her on the bed, taking enough of her vanilla scent to hold on to, while my gown crawled steadily behind me. “Thank you, Clara,” I said. Even when I looked so gorgeous in my wedding gown, I still felt suffocated. It wasn't easy to be in it, but who am I to complain against Mom's decision? I could barely walk in the body-fitting gown which sincerely did justice to my natural curves.

I have a lot of memories to look back on and my room was one of them. I was seriously going to miss that room, I hauled. It was a part and parcel of my childhood. A rare family picture of my parents, our extended family members and I hung helplessly on one side.

“Omg! Tyler is lucky to have you,” Clara flattered me again. If there was anything I didn't like about Clara, it certainly was not her genuine happiness for my success and her encouragement. I love this girl, I thought to myself while leaning my head on her shoulder enjoying the warmth of her body.

Almost immediately, my phone beeped; a message from Tyler. “ I can not wait to tie the knot with you, angel.” What a beautiful coincidence I thought. I looked at Clara and we both burst into laughter. One that I wished would last till eternity.

I just wished time would fly at this point. First, I wanted to get over the noise coming from every Angle of the mansion- it was just too much. My mother was not helping matters too. She complained about everything. Mom needs to calm down seriously. I hope she doesn't ruin my day.

Secondly, I want to be with the man I have loved all my life. I am eager to see the look on his face while we say the wedding vows. I want to walk by his sides and make jealousy burn in the heart of Sarah. Sarah was Tyler's ex-girlfriend who affirmed that Tyler was not going to marry me.

“I'm going to miss you, Clara.” I held her hands tightly looking into her eyes. She had been my only friend for years, but she was more than enough for me.

“Common! Enjoy tonight with Tyler first before thinking about missing me,” she teased. Well, she was right, the event of tonight after the wedding was part of the things I looked forward to. I have always been a shy person and that puzzled me more.

“I hope you're set.” My mom said after barging into my room and scanning my look, definitely finding some fault in my dress. “ Tyler will be here in a few minutes so…”

“Yes, Mom,” I smiled without standing up so she didn't see anything to complain about. She left.

“Hey you don't do it that way…c'mon don't put it there…” I kept hearing her shout and complain until her voice faded away.

“Let me get the flower girls, I'll be right back,” Clara said as I hugged her tightly. I'm beginning to miss her right away. Silly girl.

After a few minutes of partial silence, I mean inside the room was quiet, but outside was as rowdy as a marketplace, the door opened. Rather than see the cheerful-looking Clara and the flower girls, my eyes were met with a squeezed-faced Clara.

Before I could make any remark, my mom followed and my dad and Uncle Mike were present too, both seemed to be finding answers to only God knows what question. I would have thought they all came to wish me a final goodbye but the look on their faces said otherwise.

“What's happening? Can someone just talk to me?” I screamed holding onto Clara for an explanation. I couldn't believe my legs were already shaking.

“Everything is alright daughter,” my father said unconvincingly. He was not good at hiding expressions. He looked disturbed. I still flaunted my gaze from one person to the other when Mrs Jasmine, Tyler's mom joined us and her stare was worse.

“We just want to say that we'll miss you, Lilly. “ Mother said and everyone except me laughed. Right now, I am a perfect description of a happily sad person. I know I'm going to miss them all so I just hugged them each very tight one more time.

*******
After what seemed like an eternity of preparations and all, I finally found myself walking into the Church. My mom, Clara, and Mrs Jasmine trotted closely behind me while my bridal girls stepped majestically beside me, raising the elm of my gown.

The interior decorations of the church were nothing sort of amazing. Ranging from the seat arrangements to the uniformity in colors of items. All eyes were on me as I strolled patiently, stylishly searching around for Tyler.

You guessed right. I felt so honored. I looked forward to knotting the tie with the man I've loved ever. A rare picture of Tyler smiling while we said the wedding vows displayed in my mind and I couldn't help but smirk.

“I haven't seen Tyler,” Clara whispered to me amidst the blaring sound of romantic music that echoed in the auditorium.

“I haven't too but he should be around soon,” I whispered back. For some reason, Clara's words stirred a feeling of concern within me.

“He's right there, Clara,” I shouted enough for her to hear me this time, leaning my head very close to her left ear. I danced to the modern wedding song that was played, walking majestically to recline beside my husband.

****

“Let anyone talk, if there's any who is against the joining of these two as couples.” The priest’s voice severs through the silence. My face cut across Sarah's and she gave me a disdainful look.

My heart now beats in thousands, seriously praying that she doesn't ruin my day. Well, she didn't.

Soon, it was the most anticipated part of the wedding ceremony- saying the vows. “Once this Is done, it is now official.” I ruminated.

The priest requested that I pronounce my vows first which I did with enthusiasm. Smiling childishly as each word escaped my lips.

Then something happened!

It was Tyler's time to say his vows. He opened his mouth as if to repeat the words of the priest. “I… I am sorry everyone. I can't do this. I know it's crazy but I can't do this…”

He reached for my hands, and looked into my eyes, tears flowing freely down his cheeks. “I love you so much, Lilly, but I can't do this. I'm sorry,” and with that, fast as lightning, he stormed out of the church.
