South African Shopping Mall Mermaid struggles for Air as her 'tail' gets caught on the reef inside Aquarium tank.

A South African professional mermaid had a brief scare while showcasing her talent inside an aquarium tank at Randburg shopping mall.

The scary incident occurred on Saturday, November 25, in front of concerned shoppers.

In the video, the professional mermaid can be seen swimming upwards before her tail got caught on the reef at the bottom of the tank. Struggling for breath, she quickly removed the tail and swims to the surface for air.

Marketers propose N720/litre, suspend fuel imports

Oil marketers have said that if the dollar continues to trade at N910 to N950 at the parallel market, the cost of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, would rise to between N680/litre and N720/litre in the coming weeks. They also hinted that dealers seeking to import PMS were being forced to put the plans on hold due to the scarcity of foreign exchange to import the commodity.
The warning came barely one week after the local currency crossed the N900/dollar ceiling, with the naira selling at over 945/dollar at the parallel market on Friday.

Oil dealers said the CBN Importers and Exporters official window for foreign exchange, which boast of a lower exchange rate of about $740/litre, had remained illiquid and unable to provide the $25m to $30m required for the importation of PMS by dealers. This, they said, had led to the suspension of petrol importation by dealers who were initially eager to import the commodity. Some senior officials of major oil dealers said PMS price hike was imminent unless the local currency appreciates in the coming weeks.

Leaders of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria of Nigeria, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, and Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria said there was a need for the Federal Government to intervene to address the crisis.

The National Public Relations Officer, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, in an interview with Punch, explained that the price of petrol was now driven by the fluctuations in forex, hence Nigerians should expect a hike soon.

Asked whether oil marketers were considering an increase in petrol price, he replied, “Once there is a slack in the naira against the dollar, there is going to be an effect. The demand and supply of forex is a key factor. We should also understand that it is not only petroleum products that use forex.

A British doctor has been k!lled in South Africa after he turned the wrong way from the airport and got caught up in violent taxi driver strikes in Cape Town.

The doctor, 40, was on holiday with two of his relatives when he drove into Cape Town's Nyanga township close to the city's international airport on Thursday last week.

A police spokesman confirmed today: 'The doctor was driving with two other persons in the vehicle.

'From the airport, he apparently took a wrong turn off and headed towards Nyanga. In Ntlangano Crescent a number of suspects approached his vehicle, shot and k!lled him. No arrests yet.'

Angry strikes have broken out across the city after police officers began impounding illegal vehicles.

Furious campaigners took their protest at the airport and launched stones at cars and buses and set some alight.

The taxis' national union has said its members aren't instigating the vi0lence and others are using the strike as an excuse to launch their own protests.

The foreign office said it was 'supporting the family of a British man who has d!ed in South Africa' and issued a travel alert about the unrest.

Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has called on the Department of State Services, DSS, to invite pop star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido alongside his artist, Olamilekan Taiwo, a.k.a Logos Olori, for questioning following the production and promotion of a musical video that it alleged was capable of igniting anarchy in Nigeria.

MURIC made the call through its founder and Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, in a statement, yesterday in Abuja.

According to the Islamic body, the controversial video portrayed Islam in a bad light.

Davido and his artist, Logos Olori, have received backlashes on social media, following the release of the latter’s music video for his new single ‘Jaye Lo’ which he shared on Twitter.

In the video, Logos Olori and his team were seen praying and dancing in front of a mosque.

The 45-second clip of the new song posted over the weekend on Instagram by Davido has attracted wide criticism, with many calling for the singer to delete the video and tender an apology to Muslims for “disrespecting” Islam.

Reacting, yesterday, Akintola said: “We alert men of the DSS to invite both men for questioning to explain why they chose to produce and promote a musical video capable of igniting anarchy in Nigeria.

“In the same vein, we invite the National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, and the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, to immediately ban the insensitive musical video captioned ‘Jaye Lo’ by Logos Olori.’

They must spring to action from the moment attention is drawn to an infraction capable of causing a breach of the peace, so long as the authors of the infringement have been identified and whether or not the information contained an appeal to the monitoring agency or agencies.

The agencies are, essentially, an integral part of the general public. They should therefore act without being prompted.”

Meanwhile, Davido has finally bowed to pressure as he has taken down the controversial video from his Instagram page

THE Anambra State Police command has debunked social media claims that the kidnapped Anambra native doctor, Chinedu Nwangwu, aka Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, has regained his freedom.

Nwangwu was kidnapped on Sunday night in his hotel in Oba, Idemili North local government area and his two aides shot dead.

However, social media users have been claiming that Nwangwu turned into a lion and scared his abductors, who allegedly abandoned him and fled.

They also claimed that he had since returned to his house and being welcomed by members of his community.

But the police has debunked the claim, saying that security operatives were still working to ensure his release, adding that there is no information yet concerning the return of the native doctor.

“I don’t have such information before me,” the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga said.

While some social media users have been making mockery of the native doctor over his kidnap in spite of the powers he was said to possess, others, apparently his admirers, were the ones posting old videos that he turned into a lion and scared his abductors.

A source at Oba said the whole kidnap saga might even be a ruse by those who patronize him to create the impression that he possesses enourmous powers.

One killed as troops raid suspected IPOB camps, and arrest nine in Anambra

The troops were said to have raided the identified camps on Sunday, in an effort to curb the illicit activities of the fighters in the communities.

The Nigerian Army on Monday said troops of 302 Regiment operating under 82 Division of the Army destroyed camps belonging to fighters of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network.

The operation was carried out in conjunction with Anambra Vigilante Group in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area of the state, a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said.
Nwachukwu explained that the raid was part of ongoing clearance operations to ensure peace and security in South-East Nigeria.
The troops were said to have raided the identified camps on Sunday, in an effort to curb the illicit activities of the fighters in the communities.

During the raid operation, the troops recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, three Lexus SUVs and two Motorcycles. The troops also arrested eight brigands during the operation,” the statement said.
“In a separate operation, troops also raided IPOB camp at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South, where the gallant troops came in contact with the irredentist group and in the encounter, neutralized one IPOB fighter, while another was captured alive. The troops also recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one Dane gun and police uniforms.”
The Nigerian Army urged all law-abiding citizens and the good and enterprising people of the South-East to continue to support and cooperate with the troops and other security agencies in their efforts to end the insecurity in the region.

Tribunal sacks LP’s Okolie and declares PDP’s Elumelu winner of House of Reps seat in Delta

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State has declared Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the 2023 House of Representatives election for Aniocha-Oshimili Federal Constituency.

In a judgement delivered today July 24, the tribunal nullified the declaration of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Ngozi Okolie, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of that election. The tribunal held that Okolie was not duly sponsored by the Labour Party since he was not a member of the party as of May 28, 2022, when the party’s primary was held.

It therefore declared the runner-up in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly, Ndudi Elumelu of the PDP as the winner.

Oil marketers have warned Nigerians to prepare to buy petrol for as much as N700/litre in the coming days.

This development follows the sudden petrol hike from N540 to N617 per litre on Tuesday by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, on Tuesday, attributed the recent rise in petrol pump price from N540 to N617 per litre to market forces.

Kyari offered this explanation Tuesday following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the A*o Villa.

Against this backdrop, oil marketers have forecasted that petrol might sell as high as N700/litre once fresh products being imported by independent firms start arriving in Nigeria, Naija News gathered.

According to the National Controller, Operations, Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mike Osatuyi, Lagos residents should prepare to buy petrol for as high as N600/N620/litre. At the same time, those living up North could pay as high as N700/litre.

Osatuyi told The Punch, “The new stock will arrive any moment from the third week in July. But you know crude is now around $82/barrel, and the exchange rate is around N800. So, the new price would be determined by these two factors.”

Meanwhile, the platform gathered that marketers je**ed the price from the previous N500, N510, and N520/litre to between N620 and N630/litre after the NNPCL raised its price.

This platform understands that while some filling stations in Ondo State increased their pump prices to between N620 and N630/litre, some in Kwara State sell as high as the already forecasted N700/litre.

It was learned that at NIPCO, petrol was being sold for N545 per litre, while Shafa Energy priced it at N595. At Rainoil, customers were being charged N568 per litre, Emmanuel’s rate was N560, and Neeman had the highest price at N700 per litre.

Mr Romanus Ejikeme who is the father of Mmesoma, the Anambra pupil whose JAMB result is currently being disputed by the board has alleged that some people are trying to stop the N3 million scholarship his daughter secured from Innoson motors chairman, Innocent Chukwuma.

In an interview with Leadership newspaper, Ejikeme stated that his daughter had showcased sterling academic brilliance from her nursery school days and always claimed first position in her class, starting from nursery to secondary school. He said he believes his daughter cannot manipulate her result.

“We are from Oduma in Aninri local government in Enugu state, but we live in Uruagu, Nnewi. Mmesoma is my first child. She had always taken first position from the time she was in the nursery school at Ogbunike Central School.

When she was at Oba Girls’ Secondary School, Mmesoma was representing the school in competitions. So when she changed to Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, her teachers in Oba Girls came and pleaded with me, begging me to retain her in their school; that she is promoting the name of their school.

Mmesoma cannot manipulate her UTME score. I don’t believe what they are saying. They just want to transfer that scholarship to another person. That is why they are saying that Mmesoma did not make that score.

It is even her (Mmesoma) friends that saw her score on the internet and started calling her before she went and printed it out. We have the print-out with us now” Mmesoma’s father said

Ejikeme lamented that his daughter had been feeling very sad and even crying sometimes since after her visit to the commissioner of education from where she was taken to the DSS office.

JUST IN: CBN lifts cash deposit restriction on domiciliary accounts, allows $10k withdrawals daily

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has lifted the cash deposit restrictions placed on domiciliary accounts, stating that holders of such account are permitted to utilize cash deposits not exceeding $10,000 per day.

The apex bank in a press statement on Sunday, June 18, said customers “shall have unfettered and unrestricted access to funds in their accounts”.

The statement followed an extraordinary Bankers’ Committee meeting held to discuss the implementation and implications of the policy changes for the banking public.

According to the CBN, the policy changes aim to promote transparency, liquidity, and price discovery in the FX market in order to improve FX supply, discourage speculation, enhance customer confidence and ensure overall stability in the FX market.

According to the Director, Corporate Communications, Dr. Isa Abdulmumin, the CBN, in line with deliberations at the meeting, provided further guidance to Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).

He said all visible and invisible transactions (medicals, school fees, BTA/PTA, airline and other remittances) are eligible for the Investors
