Kunle Afolayan Reacts As Nigeria Oscar Committee Rejects Movie, 'Anikulapo’

Nigerian movie producer and actor, Kunle Afolayan, has reacted after his newly-released movie, ‘Anikulapo’ was rejected for consideration by Oscar members for the 2023 edition of the award.

Afolayan took to his Instagram page on Monday to express his disappointment saying, “I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tag ANIKULAPO film a masterpiece even though the Nigeria Oscar selection committee think its not worth submitting for the Oscars. Will keep doing my own thing.”

The movie, Anikulapo, was released in September 30.

Buju BNXN Wins Headies' Next Rated category

Singer, Buju BNXN, has emerged the winner of the Headies' Next Rated Award.

For winning the category on Monday, BNXN goes home with the 2022 Bentley Bentayga.

He was nominated alongside Ayra Starr, Zinoleesky, Lojay and R***r.

Street singer, Portable, was also nominated in the category before his disqualification on the grounds of being under police investigation.

POPULAR NIGERIA GOSPEL ARTIST DUNSIN OYENKA SURVIVE A GHASTLY MOTOR ACCIDENT
Standard Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter, Dunsin Oyekan and his crew, have miraculously escaped after getting concerned in a gory car accident.

The ghastly motor crash which reportedly passed off alongside the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Ishara space concerned a Toyota Prado Jeep and a trailertruck.

Though particulars of what transpired on the scene of the accident nonetheless stay sketchy as of the time of this report, the recording artist and his crew who have been within the car are secure.

2023: What Party Are We Voting For? Naira Marley Asks

Singer, Naira Marley, on Wednesday, said he wants to donate one billion Naira towards the 2023 election but wanted to find out what party his fans are rooting for.

Via his Twitter handle, the singer asked, “I wanna donate 1 billion Naira for 2023 election but what party are we voting for?”

Some of his followers have been responding to his tweets. Big Shaq said, “Oga your net worth no reach like that gan.”

Robbers invade actor Hafiz Oyetoro ‘Saka’s’ home

Nollywood comic actor, Hafiz Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, was attacked by robbers at his residence in the wee hours of Monday, August 8.

It was gathered the robbers broke into the actor’s home in Abeokuta, Ogun state, around 2am after disarming and tying down his security guards.

The actor’s friend, Kayode Soaga, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said,

“The Robbers broke into his Home at about 2:00 am. Heavily Armed with Pump action Guns, Matchetes, Breaking in Tools. His security Guards were tied down and demobilized.

“Three other houses on the street were robbed with more devastating effect. They broke the burglary proof and went straight to him demanding #20 million or his life. Threatening to kill and destroy.

“He begged and pleaded. They later came down to #3 million naira which he said he doesn’t have. They dazed him with a resounding slap etc. The armed robbers packed all android phones, iPhones, laptops, and all available cash in the home. Also collected all ATM cards. The robbers came with POS to empty money in accounts.

Saka’s security guards were demobilized while the guards of his neighbours were not too lucky as they were shot several times in the arms. We thank almighty GOD for Saka’s Life as he’s doing fine”.

The actor is said to be doing fine with his family after the horrific incident.

In several tweets on Twitter, he said he had to change the name to Bnxn to avoid future loss of his works to copyright but added that he couldn’t blame anyone still calling him Buju.

Speaking with HipTV, the ‘Shakiti bobo’ rapper made it quite clear that he won’t go down the route of parting away with cash for an international collaboration. The rapper is of the belief that if he puts in the right amount of work, together with the grace of God, his music will speak for him and take him so far, giving him the deserved international recognition.

He made reference to Fela Kuti who didn’t have to do any international collaboration to pe*****te the international market.

“Fela no do any international collaboration before they recognise Fela for international market,” the rapper said.

The ‘baddo’ rapper attributes the street as what makes him tick as an artist “We rep the streets and the street is the majority“, he said.

EFCC declares socialite Mompha wanted for ‘fr@ud’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Ismaila Mustapha, the socialite better known as Mompha, a wanted person.

The anti-graft agency, in a Twitter post, called on member of the public with information on his whereabouts to speak up. “Wanted by the EFCC: Ismaila Mustapha. Anyone with useful information as to his whereabouts should contact the EFCC or the nearest police station,” the EFCC wrote.

Mompha and his company Ismalob Global Investment Ltd were arraigned by the commission over alleged N6 billion fr@ud on January 12. A fresh eight-count charge was brought against him.

He was remanded in the custody of the EFCC but later granted a bail of of N200 million which he couldn’t fulfill. The bail sum was later slashed to N25 million.

The EFCC had, on June 10, accused Mompha of flouting a court order by traveling to Dubai with a new passport. On June 22, a Lagos court revoked the bail granted to him after the controversial socialite’s absence for trial.

I don’t regret my actions, Portable reacts to Headies disqualification

Portable was nominated in the ‘Best Street Artist’ and ‘Rookie of the Year categories of the awards.

For being the subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, organisers of The Headies awards on Tuesday evening disqualified singer Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, from its 15th edition scheduled to hold later this year.

The organisers also cited a claim that he’s the founder of ‘One million Boys’, a suspected cult group in Lagos, as another ground for disqualification.

Reacting to the news of his disqualification, the controversial in an Instagram video called the award organisers bluff.

“I am a child of light. I have fame, I have money, I have cars, I have wives, I have children. I am rich. People know me everywhere. I don’t regret my actions”, the singer said in a video while being caressed by his new wife.

Since Portable achieved celebrity status, he has always been in the news for several notorious reasons.

Portable was nominated in the ‘Best Street Artist’ and ‘Rookie of the Year categories of the awards alongside Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugocci.

In a statement from The Headies secretariat, the organisers assured the Nigerian music audience of its commitment to promoting talents and individuals of exemplary character in the best interest of society.

“We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable”, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards,” the statement reads.

BREAKING NEWS: Tems & Kendrick Lamar featured on the official soundtrack of the new "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" 😳‼️🔥🔥🔥

In the recent trailer released for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, Tems covers Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” on the trailer’s soundtrack.

Yesterday, Marvel Studios debuted the trailer for the blockbuster sequel, which is scheduled for a November 11 release at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.

The teaser begins with Tems’ rendition of “No Woman, No Cry” before it seamlessly transitions to Kendrick Lamar’s resilient song, Alright (2015).

During an interview with Billboard, Tems was asked what song she would remix if given the opportunity.

To which she responded, “I would choose Bob Marley’s “Is This Love, or No Woman Don’t Cry” because those are one of my favourites,” the 27-year-old responded.

Tems performs an extremely sombre cover of Marley’s song in the two-minute teaser, containing the phrase “good friends we have, and good friends we’ve lost.”

The poignant trailer hints at how the MCU franchise’s heroes will handle the loss of T’Challa, formerly portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, who passed away at age 43 in 2020 following a four-year fight with cancer.
