Bobrisky: Court fines activist VeryDarkMan N500 million for defaming rapper Falz and his father, Femi Falana

The Lagos State High Court has ordered social media critic Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to pay ₦500 million in damages to human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz.

This is as the court, presided over by Justice M. O. Idowu, ordered him to delete defamatory statements and videos against the Falanas.

The court’s decision followed a series of posts made by Otse on September 24, 2024, in which he linked the Falanas to crossdresser Bobrisky.

Justice Idowu stated that the comments were “defamatory and injurious” to Falana and his son’s public reputations.

According to the applicants, the court noted, “the defendant knew these statements were false and untrue but proceeded to publish them to injure their reputation.”

Nigeria's national grid has collapsed again, leaving the country in darkness. This is the sixth time it's happened in 2024 ¹. The collapse occurred at around 6:18 pm on Monday, October 14, with power generation dropping from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 pm to zero by 7 pm ².

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the grid collapse, stating that all their interface TCN stations are out of supply, and they're unable to provide services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States .

This isn't the first time the national grid has collapsed this year. In fact, it's happened multiple times, with the last occurrence being on August 5 ³. The frequent collapses have left many Nigerians frustrated and concerned about the reliability of the country's power infrastructure.

Causes of the Collapse:
While the exact cause of the latest collapse hasn't been stated, previous incidents have been attributed to various factors, including:

- Inadequate infrastructure.
- Lack of maintenance.
- Overreliance on fossil fuels.

Impact on Nigerians:
The frequent grid collapses have significant implications for Nigerians, including:

- Disrupted economic activities_
- Inconvenience and discomfort_
-Increased costs for alternative power sources.

It's essential for the relevant authorities to address the underlying issues causing these collapses to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians.
