It was gathered that yesterday’ s incident was not the first time the police will be coming to the area to affect the impounding of Okadas. However, the Okada riders were prepared for them yesterday as they went all- out of the war with them by attacking them.
Eyewitness account said the policemen were trying to impound their Okada(motorcycle) when they attacked them. It was also reported that the police officers had succeeded in seizing some of the bikes for allegedly flouting the State Traffic Law when the aggrieved motorcyclists mobilized and attacked them brutally.
In the brutal and bloody attack, one Superintendent of Police (SP) named Kazeem Abode paid the supreme price. He was reportedly disarmed and they shot him using his gun. After that, Okada riders proceeded to attack other police officers too and vandalized their operational van.
Eyewitnesses say it happened along Asa Afariogun Road by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Ajao Estate.
As of the time of filing this report, no arrests have been made by the police. The riders were said to have dispersed and fled the area immediately. Most of them(the Okada riders) are believed to be from the northern part of Nigeria. This was according to the eyewitnesses living in the area.
Meanwhile, the murdered police officer is also a lawyer by profession. The late Abode was due to retire in a few months and was making arrangements to go back to his legal profession after his retirement before the ugly incident occurred.
