'You cannot work at cross purposes under me,' Tinubu warns Service Chiefs
President Bola Tinubu has asked Service Chiefs to work together in order to strengthen the fight against insecurity.
Tinubu gave the warning at a meeting he had with heads of security agencies on Thursday.
Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, said the President demanded frequent consultations among the agencies.
The President also mandated the security agencies to develop a blue print to deal with the issue of crude oil theft, indicating that the changes to meet the requirements of the changing times.
Monguno said: βThe President has revealed that in moving this country forward, he needs the security agencies to redouble their efforts. And heβs also pointed out that his own philosophy is one of contemporary security measures dealing with the requirements of the time.
βHe has made it very clear that he will not accept a situation in which our fortunes keep declining. And his own trajectory is that national security has to be coordinated, there has to be wherever whatever it says whether it is a basket system, but there must be a clearing house.
βAll agencies must work to achieve one single purpose. Working at cross purposes and colliding with each other is not something that he will condone. He has made it very, very clear that all the security agencies must comply with the demands of coordination, with the demands of frequent consultations and also timely reports which must be acted on.β
The NSA said the president told the security chiefs during the two hours meeting of his determination to build on gains made so far, reverse misfortunes and turn the tide in favour of the country.
He added that Tinubu said the country should not be on its knees struggling while other countries were walking and achieving greater heights.
He said: βHaving been briefed by the participants of the meeting, Mr. President, addressed prevailing issues confronting the nation in terms of insecurity and a
Buhari Was A Disaster - Osita Chidoka
Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari's government for causing devastation and harm to numerous Nigerian ideals.
Chidoka, who worked in ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, branded Buhari's eight-year administration as a "disaster of unimaginable proportions."
The ex-minister stated this in a tweet sent on his handle hours after the new administration took power.
Chidoka wrote, βPresident Buhari destroyed every fibre of our national consensus, destroyed our pride of place in the comity of nations, damaged our collective desire to live in peace within our diversity, and reversed the economic progress of the democratic era. President Buhari was simply a disaster of unimaginable proportions.β
Buhari governed Nigeria for two terms, from May 29, 2015 to May 29, 2023, and his administration was heavily criticized for failing in practically every area, leaving the country in insecurity, debt, inflation, and unemployment.
His supporters, though, have claimed that the former president accomplished a great deal while in office.
Buhari told his cabinet ministers at their penultimate Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting last week to be proud of doing their best for the country.
Bashir El-Rufai tackles former Senator Shehu Sani after he called out his father
Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna state Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has taken on former Senator Shehu Sani, who accused his father of stealing from the state government.
To back up his accusation, Sani dared El-Rufai to publicly reveal his asset form in 2015 and 2023.
Bashir responded by telling Sani to keep the Twitter 'battle' between his "mates" and not extend it to his father, whom he claims is his senior.
Unity of Nigeria requires a Christian Senate President - Shettima
Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that the choice of Godswill Akpabio for the office of Senate President in the 10th National Assembly was supported by APC leadership and President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to calm the polity.
Shettima addressed at his campaign headquarters in Abuja to senators-elect who are part of the Stability Group, which is cheering for the election of Akpabio and Barau as Senate President and Deputy, respectively.
He said, βThe President-elect and the vice-president elect are both Muslims. It is in the interest of the stability and unity of this country that the next position be given to the Christian faith, if not, it would further validate the alleged islamisation agenda of the APC-led administration. It would be perceived as a gratuitous insult on our Christian brothers and sisters who stuck out their necks to support us.
βThat was why I was quite pleased with the choice of the party leadership that my uncommon brother and leader in the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio should be the number three citizen of this country.
The stability of this nation is much more important than whatever political considerations we may think of. We need to have a stabled and united nation before we can talk about politics and positions. This is what our leader could do to unite this country in the current circumstances.β
Shettima said Akpabio has the exposure, competence and experience to occupy the office of the Senate President in the 10th Senate, ditto Senator Barau, his deputy.
βApart from the need for religious balancing, competence and experience also came into play in our choices,β he said.
Shettima pledged to reach out to APC senators-elect who are yet to come on board with the choices of the party.
Shettima: We either get rid of subsidy or it will get rid of Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima says Nigeria must eliminate petroleum subsidies before they kill the country.
He revealed this on Tuesday, after resuming office at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, while answering questions from State House media.
His statements came after President Bola Tinubu proclaimed that the gasoline subsidy was no longer in effect on Monday.
The vice president stated that the administration expected strong pushback from those who benefited from the subsidy scheme, and that the subject of gasoline subsidies will be handled front on.
Shettima said: βThe president has already made pronouncements yesterday on the issue of the fuel subsidy. The truth of the matter is that it is either we get rid of subsidy or the fuel subsidy gets rid of the Nigerian nation. In 2022, we spent $10billion subsidizing the ostentatious lifestyle of the upper class of the society because you and I benefit 90% from the oil subsidy. The poor 40% of Nigerians benefit very little. And we know the consequences of unveiling a masquerade.
βWe will get fierce opposition from those benefitting from the oil subsidy scam. But where there is a will, there is a way. Be rest assured that our president is a man of strong will and conviction. In the fullness of time you will appreciate his noble intentions for the nation. The issue of fuel subsidy will be frontally addressed. The earlier we do so, the better.β
On exchange rates, the vice president said: βThe issue of multiple exchange rates, we are going to collapse it into one. So these are two big elephants in the room and as the days go by we will be unveiling our agenda. He is going to unveil his agenda because as I have always said there can never be two captains in a ship. βHe is the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Iβm the vice president. Your relevance is directly proportional to the level of your loyalty to the president. This is a gentleman that I have known for well over a decade; that I
