Prince Ephraim Odiakosa Nwabuokei of Onicha-Olona Pays Courtesy Visit to Oba of Benin

**Seeks Royal blessing to commence Restoration of the Monarchy and rebuilding of the ancient palace destroyed by the British in 1901

The Royal Prince of Onicha-Olona Kingdom, Prince Ephraim Odiakosa has led a delegation of Onicha-Olona people to the palace of the Oba of Benin, HRM Oba Ewuare II to seek the monarch's blessing in preparation for the restoration of Onicha-Olona monarchy and rebuilding of the palace of their ancestors that was destroyed by the British in 1901.

Prince Ephraim Odiakosa while speaking to journalists shortly after the visit, gave a chronological review of the history of the palace in Onicha-Olona and the significance of the visit which is the first step in the trajectory towards restoration of the monarchy and rebuilding of the palace, stressing that, "It is not wise for a child to embark on a journey without the father's consent and blessings".

He said that they are from the Ugbe Royal Family of Onicha-Olona, the descendants of Oba Esigie of Benin. Historically, he said that the palace was built during the reign of Oba Esigie for his son, Oba Orhogbua, who first used the Palace as his abode when he was the Enogie.

Prince Ephraim Odiakosa went further to say that the palace was later expanded and remodeled when Oba Orhogbua made his younger brother, Oba N'Isi Ika and the palace stood on that ground till 1901 when the British, through the punitive invasion of their land which resulted in the Ekwumeke war, destroyed the palace and it had remained in ruins since then.

He added, "Following my father's footstep, in making effort to restore everything that was distorted and destroyed, we are taking the step to rebuild the palace of our ancestors and that is why we have come to ask His Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin for his blessing and support for us to rebuild the palace because it holds both the history of the Onicha-Olona people in the Eastern part and the history of our people in Benin Kingdom".

"Rebuilding the palace is a historic step to be taken to ensure that though the palace was destroyed, the world needs to know that our spirit was not killed," he concluded.

Assault on Esan West LGA Chairman, Hon. Collins Aigbogun, Call for Action by Security Agencies

Attn; Commissioner of Police, Edo State
Area Commander, Zone 5
All Security Agencies

The Unprovoked attack on the Executive Chairman of Esan West L.G.A, Hon Collins Aigbogun by APC supporters during a peaceful meeting with party faithfuls at illeh community is a serious security challenge that needs urgent action by security agencies in the state to avert breakdown of law and order as we approach the September 21st governorship election.

It is unfortunate that APC rather than resulting to selling their candidates and engaging in peaceful campaigns, have resulted to blame game, concorted lies, violence and assault on PDP faithfuls who are exercising their right to campaign and sensitization of voters ahead of the election.

This attack on the Executive Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area is among the numerous unprovoked attacks on PDP members across the state. It is deceitful that APC supporters after perpetuating and unleashing harm on PDP members are the first to cry out to feign innocence of their action thereby misleading the public. Edo people knows the truth and cannot be cajoled by misinformation.

It is evident that APC is having goose pimples for the rising popularity of the PDP candidates and the resolve of Edo people to vote right.

We are calling on Edo State Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Zone 5, Department of Security Services and others to fish out the perpetrators of the violence and bring them to justice. As law abiding citizens who are conversant with democratic principles, we will not be distracted in the campaigns because we know the caliber of people that we have chosen to stir the ship of our great State.

Elections are not war. Power comes from God and the people must decide who to govern them.

This message is from the Office of the Executive Chairman, Uhunmwode Local Government Area.
