“Exercise Damisa”: That’s the name of the clandestine training exercise Major Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu used in getting the soldiers ready for the January 16, 1966 coup. As a chief instructor at NMTC, Kaduna as he was fondly called had to come with a veiled way in getting the boys ready for what would become the 1st Military coup in Nigeria. 6 years after the country’s Independence

Unknown to the soldiers, Kaduna was prepping them for a “Military Exercise” to overthrow the government then.

Born on 26 February 1937 in the city of Kaduna to an Igbo family He spoke Hausa fluently, even too fluently than most Northerns. A devoted catholic and a very Disciplined man, a strong- willed and incorruptible too. The idea of saving Nigeria from the corrupt politicians of the day has been a source of concern for him way before 1966.

On the Night of the D-Day, “Exercise Damisa” was a good to go. The soldiers were moved into position, and they have no idea that their actions was about to change the course of the country forever. The Premier Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto house has been on surveillance for weeks.

The attack started, an anti-tank weapon was used on the Sardauna’s residence and it set the entire building on fire. Nzeogwu finally saw the Sardauna hiding among his wives. In anger and rage, he shot him and one of wives who used her body to protect her husband. The Sardauna’s personal faithful bodyguard “Zarunmi” was also killed. He died fighting and protecting his master.

The coup was repressed. Nzeogwu was later arrested in Lagos on 18 January 1966. He was held in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos before being transferred to Aba Prison in the Eastern Region where he was released in March 1967 by Ojukwu.

On 29 July 1967, Nzeogwu - who had been promoted to the rank of a Biafran Lt. Colonel - was trapped in an ambush near Nsukka while conducting a night reconnaissance operation against federal troops of the 21st battalion under Captain Mohammed

Brief History Of Northern Nigeria Before Amalgamation

To understand Nigeria you need to know the history to explain the politics.
When the British arrived in what became Northern Nigeria, there were by then lets say for arguments sake two nations ruling the North predominantly the Fulani and then also the Indigenous Hausa, the latter of which the Hausa kingdoms were constantly being attacked by the Fulani who are conquers by nature. The British to keep a balance assisted the Hausa and with their help confronted the Fulani.

The Fulani understanding conquest took to their new masters the British and in return for their new found compliant attitude Lord Lugard made every Emir in every town in the north a Fulani, inadvertently giving power back to the Fulani. (I wonder if this is where the phrase “the only thing Nigeria understands is war” stems from).

Then in 1914 for financial reasons the British amalgamated the Northern Nigeria Protectorate with the Southern Protectorates, now these were entirely two very different regions, as the southern protectorate wasn’t a conquered region it was a democratic area of many nations that had been developed over thousands of years of trading with foreign lands (the southern protectorate agreed upon to protect trading) and was religiously predominantly Judea Christian and in every sense was far more developed than the north in every aspect; education, standard of living etc.. following the amalgamation there was a great need in the north for jobs only the southerners could really do for development of the country like railways, education etc..

So they were sent to the north, however they were still the foreigners and they could never fit in, understandably deep seated bad feelings embedded itself as the Northerners felt the Southerners were lauding their social standing over them and the Southerners could never fit into the social/political system as it was not designed to do so. (Oil doesn’t mix with water). Now the British have

Chief Abdulrahmon Adedoyin arrested in connection with the mystery death of a masters degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, Timothy Adegoke.

Awofisan Babatunde The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olawale Olokode, on Wednesday disclosed that the founder of Oduduwa University and Ife Prince, Dr Rahmon Adedoyin, has been arrested in connection with the mystery death of a masters degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, Timothy Adegoke.

The Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Yemisi Opalola, in a statement said Prince Adedoyin is also the chairman of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile-Ife, where the deceased was said to have lodged upon his arrival from Abuja.

According to him, the suspect was arrested in connection with the death of the OAU student who came from Abuja to sit for his examination at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro, Osun State.

“In addition to the six suspects earlier arrested, the chairman of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile-Ife, Dr Ramon Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin was also arrested on 15th November 2021.

“He is currently in Police detention, undergoing interrogation in connection with the case while awaiting the autopsy report from the hospital,” the statement added.

The police commended the university’s management and family of the deceased for giving a chance to investigate the matter, promising that justice will be served.

It urged the public to continue to support the police and allow the security to conclude the ongoing investigation.

It will be recalled that late Timothy Adegoke Oludare, a Chartered Accountant from Eruwa, Oyo State, was declared missing penultimate week since he checked in at the hotel owned by Prince Adedoyin on Friday, November 5 preceding his examinations scheduled for Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7.

Oludare was noticed missing when his wife could not reach him on the phone. Meanwhile, he had earlier contacted his wife to inform her that he was staying in a hotel.

Following a police investigation, money paid by Oludare for lodging was traced to one Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola, who works in the hotel.

Sources, however, alleged that Prince Adedoyin and some of his workers initially denied that Oludare was at the hotel.

Meanwhile, late Oludare, who was also a Director of Finance of a private firm, FJJ Company, was said to be frequented Ile-Ife between October 22 to October 24; October 29 to October 31; and November 5 to November 7, 2021 to take his MBA exams at the Obafemi Awolowo University and he had been consecutively lodging at Hilton Hotels and Resorts.

“On Friday, November 5th, 2021, Adegoke Timothy Oludare contacted his wife (in Abuja) that he had arrived Ile-Ife and had lodged at an undisclosed hotel,” the deceased’s brother was quoted.

“The following morning, her wife was calling Adegoke Oludare’s phone line to extend morning greeting but the line kept ringing with no one picking up the call. The line was ringing throughout the day (Saturday 6th, 2021).

“Adegoke’s wife contacted relatives and the family immediately sent a delegation to the examination centre of the OAU to confirm whether their son was in the examination hall. The examination coordinator checked the attendance for Saturday and Sunday (6th and 7th November) and they discovered that Adegoke Timothy Oludare did not come to take the exams.

“OAU Management and relatives proceeded to the police station to report the matter and investigation began. In the effort of the OAU Management, the chairman of the hoteliers’ association was contacted to reach out to hotels whether Adegoke Oludare lodged in any of the hotels but no positive response was received.

“On Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, wife of Adegoke Timothy Oludare discovered the receipt of the hotel in which her husband lodged the penultimate weekend to November 5th, 2021. The name of this Hotel was Hilton Hotels and Resorts.

“The investigation panel proceeded to Hilton to enquire whether Adegoke Oludare lodged again in the penultimate weekend which was 5th November 2021. They met the proprietor of this hotel (Chief Rahman Adegoke Adedoyin) but they denied that Adegoke Timothy Oludare lodged at their hotel.

“On Thursday 11 November 2021, investigation revealed that Adegoke Timothy Oludare transferred the sum of N37,000 from his account to a lady whose name is Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola and the details of the transfer showed that the transaction took place on Friday, 5th November 2021 that Adegoke Oludare’s wife claimed that her husband reported to have lodged at a hotel in Ile Ife.”

“Upon tracking the phone number on the said account, it was discovered that the owner of that number was at that moment at the Hilton Hotels and Resorts owned by Rahman Adedoyin. Police proceeded to the venue and Adedeji Tobiloba Adesola was fished out to be a staffer of the said hotel.

When Adesola was apprehended, she confessed to have allocated Room 35 of Hilton Hotels and Resorts to Oludare the same Friday. She was arrested and whisked to the Police headquarters in Osogbo.

On November 12, 2021, her confession led to the arrest of 6 other suspects by the police including a self-acclaimed Alfa (Islamic cleric) who claimed to have left Ile-Ife for Ejigbo on the same Friday Oludare was said to have disappeared.

Before the Alfa’s confession, police tracking had shown that Oludare’s phone was moved from Ile-Ife to Ejigbo between 5 and 6 November, 2021.

Meanwhile, on November 13, Adedoyin was alleged to have mobilised three top lawyers to Osogbo in order to pervert the investigation process.

But he could not have his way until his arrest by the Police.

Ologbosere was hanged by the British in 1899. The respected chief of Benin Kingdom fought a guerrilla war for 2 years against the British occupation army . THIS ENTITLEMENT GENERATION FRIGHTENS ME!!!

Why I beat up my lecturer, UNILORIN final year Student explains

Captain Walz, a Unilorin final year student of the Department of Microbiology, who bruised a female lecturer, Mrs Zakariyau, has explained the reasons for his action.

He alleged to have gone to the office of the lecturer to beg her to help wave the required SIWES course which he missed due to an unexpected event.

He claimed to have met Mrs Zakariyau numerous times, but all led to negative responses before the last Thursday assault on the lecturer.

Salaudeen Waliu, while speaking to University Campus Journalists, UCJ-Ilorin, claimed that ” months before the last Thursday incident, he was arrested and locked up for two months, thereby warranting his inability to attend SIWES duties.”

He said he had gone to Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, to meet a friend for the first time. He was waiting for the friend when according to him, he “felt the impulse to urinate.”

Salaudeen said he urinated near a car parked by drainage when he was challenged by someone who must have washed the car.

He said he was accused of being a thief and was not allowed to explain himself before mobs descended on him, meted out jungle justice and handed him over to the police which led to his detention for two months.

The final year student said after the incident in Lagos, he approached Mrs Zakariyau to explain to her his ordeal but the lecturer said there was no help to offer, except he joined the next set which would result in an extra year.

He said on the fateful Thursday when he entered the lecturer’s office, she ordered him out of her office.

” I got angry, I didn't know what came over me, I started arguing and she told me to leave her office, I told her if I don’t leave, what is she going to do?

“She then threw a mug at me which injured me and I started beating her,” he added.

Salaudeen said the female lecturer did not fight back, so he went on to beat her and later dragged her out of her office to continue the beating.

” I dragged her out and she ran. I chased and kept beating her before people came. I tried to run but was later caught by the school security,” he stated in the security cell of the institution where he was locked up since he was returned from ‘F’ Divisional Police station, Tanke in Ilorin, the Kwara state.

NIGERIA: AMIDST YAHOOISM

The Moralist School, which I attended and strongly believed in its tenets and opinions, will never justify evil in whatever guise or form. A spade shall be called a spade, a monkey will never be a Monk because we want to give it a sense of belonging.

Many people have tried to logically portray 'Yahoo boys' as legitimate hustlers who were only trying to survive against all odds. They have been touted and seen as the hope for the recovery of our purported loot from Africa by the White Supremacists. A lot of rhetorics have been waxed to paint them as the modern day "Robin Hoods'', but in the ideal situation, are these people truly to be proud of? These are questions that beg for answers, sincere and apt one.

To be factual, we are not operating an ideal situation in our society and the country at large, so whatever people do, now is not the time to question the moral behind it. People do anything to survive, and that itself is not what the Moralist School could debate against and win with the Realist School. Man has eaten grass, fed on tree herbs, cooked poisonous animals and took gulps of urine and sewage just to stay alive. Since the ruling class has made life almost unbearable, Nigerians and indeed, Africans, have devised other ways, though illegitimate, to stay alive. Current among them is banditry, kidnapping, drug peddling and the rest. These mentioned ones are seen more as "extreme" crimes, why not the subtle ones?

And that's where the Yahoo Boy enters. He 'hustles' when others are sleeping, he stays hungry when others are feeding on their kobo and penny, he thinks when others seemingly engage in frivolities. And when the Yahoo boy balls in bars, people raise eyebrows! What's wrong in that? These are the kind of questions people ask to show support and solidarity. If you ask me, I blame not the supported and the supporter. The situation has left little room for critical reasoning because a lot of families are now on the brink. How does someone who hasn't eaten for two days think?

But are the Yahoo boys the only culpable group? No! The ruling class, the religious institution, the royal circle, the judiciary, the media and the society at large are the real Yahoo Boys! Theirs is an organized syndicate, cult, with a carefully woven web to do everything the Yahoo Boy does on a more organized level while enjoying the recognition of both the local and international community.

Oh, His Excellency has just siphoned the wealth of the country to the tune of billions of naira. He goes to the church to pay his tithe and offering or to the Imam for his zakaat and sodaqah. The clergymen know the Biblical and Qur'anic verses to quote, to 'purify' the loots of these Yahoo leaders in our political parties. They even organize vigils, fasting and prayer for them, and Heaven has remained patient! The royal seat is now a long table flanked either side by commonwealth vultures with an emperor who simply wants his own cut at the end of the table. They roll out chieftaincy titles for the highest moneybags with no moral or patriotism. They say "Ifa, baami agbonmiregun, okunrin kukuru oke igbeti" doesn't spend cowries anymore, they say he spends Bitcoin now. The judiciary knows the legal technicalities to set free a man who has impoverished the country, but a man that has just stolen a cup of rice will spend seven to ten years inside jail. May be the sight of a poor thief irritates them, unlike the one that reeks of billion. The media too is stashed with a lot of talented pen sycophants and literary naysayers. The highest bidder will have a favourable editorial, with fictions, facts and figures cooked and garnished with a craft and mastery only bettered by Satan's wit. Lori iro. They then donate, after receiving some humongous cuts from the cake, some fictitious awards like, "Man of The Year'', " Best Governor of The Year'', really? For constructing roads and paying salaries? Or for simply doing what he was elected to do? When all these pan out, the masses are turned to, with a little side of their Robinhood. They share cups of gari and rice with one thousand naira, or simply do the Amala party in their houses, with the poor thrown crumbs to, in front of their gates. After eating a wrap of Amala, these Yahoo paupers and never-do-wells will flood the town again, sometimes wielding dangerous objects, to praise their Yahoo thief who had stolen their destiny and that of their progenies on a platter of stomach infrastructure. Yeyenatu.

At the end, I realize that most people who are also in the Moralist School, castigating Yahoo Boys, are also not fit to throw stones. I have seen enough rot perpetrated by a lot of Popes and Sheikhs who have suddenly assume themselves to be the pinnacle of righteousness. I have seen holier sisters in the daytime whose wombs are no more due to multiple abortions. The holier men have embezzled what belongs to societies, some even go as far as bed the wives of their friends. Rots! Dirts!! Filth!!! They look holy, but before God, they are men whose sight are nothing more than carcasses. They preach with 'divine' grace, and the mumu you, will see yourself as a candidate of hellfire, hello? Yahoo boys may look like outlaws and menaces, yes, they are. But I feel comfortable knowing that they are not angels, because they never portrayed themselves as one. The ones we see as angels are the real devils, if only we know.

So, I ask, how many people are free from the 'Yahoo' tendencies? How many people will not 's**t' on the chair when allowed a sniffer on the throne? How many can say that their secret ways or activities are better than these Yahoo boys we now see as plagues?

This post, is in no way justifying the activities of Yahoo boys. It is rather exposing the silent hypocrisies in the lives of an average Nigerian irrespective of social and religious standings, young or old.

Indeed, everyone is a thief, the herbalist is a Yahoo boy too. (Ole ni everybody, yahoo ni babalawo).

20/10/2021

Years ago, when he was asked to reflect on his own life, General Colin Powell described himself as “first and foremost a problem-solver.” It was true, of course. But he was far more than that.

General Powell was an exemplary soldier and an exemplary patriot. He was at the center of some of the most consequential events of our lifetimes – serving two decorated tours in Vietnam; guiding U.S. strategy in the Gulf War; serving as National Security Advisor, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of State; offering counsel to four presidents; and helping shape American foreign policy for decades. Everyone who worked with General Powell appreciated his clarity of thought, insistence on seeing all sides, and ability to execute. And although he’d be the first to acknowledge that he didn’t get every call right, his actions reflected what he believed was best for America and the people he served.

Along the way, General Powell helped a generation of young people set their sights higher. He never denied the role that race played in his own life and in our society more broadly. But he also refused to accept that race would limit his dreams, and through his steady and principled leadership, helped pave the way for so many who would follow. It was the way Colin Powell saw the world – not as a starry-eyed idealist, but as someone with deep and abiding faith in this country and what it stands for – that made him such a central figure.

On a personal level, I was deeply appreciative that someone like General Powell, who had been associated with Republican administrations in the past, was willing to endorse me in 2008. But what impressed me even more was how he did it. At a time when conspiracy theories were swirling, with some questioning my faith, General Powell took the opportunity to get to the heart of the matter in a way only he could.

“The correct answer is, he is not a Muslim; he's a Christian,” General Powell said. “But the really right answer is, ‘What if he is?’ Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president?”

That’s who Colin Powell was. He understood what was best in this country, and tried to bring his own life, career, and public statements in line with that ideal. It’s why, for all the battles he fought and problems he solved, Michelle and I will always look to General Powell as an example of what America – and Americans – can and should be if we wish to remain the last, best hope of earth.

Our family sends our thoughts to Alma, their three children and grandchildren, and everyone mourning his loss today.

APPEAL COURT TO RULE ON SUIT SEEKING TO SWEAR IN ATIKU AND VOID BUHARI'S ELECTION -John Chuks Azu - Thu Oct 14 2021

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has fixed February 22, 2022, for hearing of the appeal seeking to void President Muhammadu Buhari’s election.

The Incorporated Trustees of the Civil Society Observatory for Constitutional and Legal Compliance (CSOCLC) is contending that if the court agrees with its submissions, it should direct the inauguration of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who came second in the 2019 General Elections, to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A three-member panel of justices presided by Justice Peter Ige, during the hearing, directed proper service of court papers on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari.

Counsel to the appellants in the matter, Nnamdi Ahaiwe had informed the court that the respondents, who appeared during the initial hearing on January 14, were duly served with the processes and endorsed at the back.

But Justice Ige said, “file afresh and serve the respondents. The law enjoins us to see real prof of service.”

The civil society had brought the appeal challenging the judgement of the high court dismissing its earlier suit where it contended that President Buhari’s personal affidavit sworn to on November 24, 2014 at the FCT High Court Abuja in support of his personal particulars contained a false statement under oath “when he averred that his academic qualification documents are with the ‘Secretary of the Military Board’.”

The NGO is seeking a declaration that “there is no institution, establishment, authority or office in Nigeria, at all times material to this case, known as an called a Military Board and as well no person, officer, office or authority known as and called Secretary to the Military Board.”

The NGO demands that if the court agrees that there is no office called ‘Secretary to the Military Board’, it should make an order nullifying the election and swearing in of the 3rd Defendant/Respondent (President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR) to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;

“An order directing the 1st Defendant/Respondent (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, issued to the 3rd Defendant/Respondent (President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR);

“An order directing the 1st Defendant/Respondent (INEC) to issue a new Certificate of Return in respect of the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being the candidate who came second in the 2019 General Elections to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

In October 1993, elite 🇺🇸 American troops launched a disastrous raid in the Somali capital Mogadishu.🇸🇴

Their aim was to capture key allies of the powerful Somali warlord, Gen Mohamed Farah Aideed. But US forces met fierce resistance from Aideed's militia.

Two US Black Hawk helicopters were shot down.

In the ensuing battle, hundreds of Somalis were estimated to have died. Some 18 Americans and two UN soldiers were killed.

At the time, the United States was leading a UN mission to end the civil war and famine in Somalia.

Within six months, the US had withdrawn its forces from Somalia. The perceived failure of the Somali mission made the US wary of intervening in African crises.

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT SOME AARE ONA KAKANFO

Kakanfo Ojo Aburumaku:

had no war to fight. He fomented a civil war in his native Ogbomoso which he then had a good sport of putting down with severity. Afterall, he was Aare Onakakanfo, the Supreme head of the Esos, the 70 military commanders who make the Yoruba warrior caste.

Eso Ikoyi won kii gbofa leyin

iwaju ni won fii gbota.

Agba Ikoyi to gbojo iku toree gbalu.

Ikoyi Eso, arogun yo.

Kakanfo Kurumi:

was even more spectacular. He insisted that the Aremo must die with the Alaafin according to tradition. The truth was that he had been part of an earlier conference in which that convention was abolished. To enforce his desire, he made war on the rest of Oyo kingdom from his garrison city in Ijaye. His reputation as a warrior was legendary. He is portrayed in art as a no-nonsense nimble wit with a commanding presence. Aare Kurumi npe o, o londifa. Bifa ba fore ti Aare o ba fore nko? There was no excuse for refusing a call from the generalissimo. In a surgical commando strike, Ibadan special forces attacked at night his troops in Iseyin and wiped out the entire rear brigade. All of Kurumi’s five children who were company commanders died in that attack. Like his name, Aare Kurumi was ruined by death, indeed. I-k –u-r-u-m-i.

It must be acknowledged though that a few of the kakanfos had glorious tenures. Oyabi was based in the garrison town of Jabata. He kept off the internal strife of the kingdom with the wily Osorun Gaa killing the Alaafins in quick succession until the reign of Adegoolu who linked up with the military to destroy the prime minister. The Eso were lead into the city like Caesar did across the Rubicon River and Basorun Gaa was killed by Oyabi.

In Ibadan, the new city full of promise where Kakanfo Obadoke Latoosa had taken up residence, the scourge of the notorious slave dealer, Efunsetan Aniwura, was ended by the Aare Ona kakanfo. However, even he Latoosa was victim of the mystique of the office of supreme commander. Latoosa was confronted by a palace coup and in very dramatic circumstances, he committed su***de. He had a notorious slave according to history, who grew increasingly disrespectful of the generals. Latoosa did not curb this behaviour until the deputy commander, Balogun Ibikunle was insulted by the slave. Ibikunle could not believe his eyes when Latoosa asked the slave to state his side of the case like two equals squabbling. Ibikunle simply beheaded the idiot there and then.

Latoosa then asked Ibikunle if he was ready to take the sceptre of office, to which Ibikunle answered in the affirmative. There was no negative response from the other commanders present. Latoosa had overrated his own popularity. Depicted as an overbearing and brutally magnificent warrior who went about like a masquerade, he was stunned by the turn of events and swallowed poison. He simply laid down and covered himself like one in sleep. Oyabi from Ajase lived very long and he was very loyal to Alaafin and Oyo empire. These and more are the intriguing story of Aare in the then old Oyo Empire.
