A resident of Maraba town in Nasarawa State, Muhammed Sani Zangina, has sued Rarara, accusing a praise singer of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Dauda Kahutu, of inciting public disturbance.

In a court affidavit made available to City & Crime, the complainant, through his lawyer, Muhammed Barde Abdullahi, said Rarara’s action was capable of breaching public peace, as well as causing disturbance, contrary to Section 114 of the Penal Code.

The case, which was filed in a Nasarawa State magistrates’ court sitting in Lafia, could not, however, be held on Monday, November 13, due to the absence of the defendant.

The court’s bailiff explained that the summons issued by the court could not be served on the defendant.
Barrister Abdullahi, thereafter, applied that a substrate service be effected against the defendant, a request the court granted.

The Magistrate, Maryam Nadabo, adjourned the case to December 4.

Crude oil exports from Nigeria to Europe have increased to 730,000 barrels per day despite the shortage of its supply to local refineries.

On Thursday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited revealed that Nigeria’s crude oil flow to Europe had increased in a bid to fill supply gaps left by the ban on Russian crude.

This is just as the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria said that the Federal Government had begun the move to increase supply to local refineries.

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has demanded payment of 13% derivation fund just like other oil producing states of the federation. He said “We will take the Federal Government to the Supreme Court unless the 13 percent derivation from our land, water, air, grass, and everything given to us is paid.”

The governor made the demand when he received the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijani Aliyu, in Minna.

According to him, the state deserves to be paid about N1 trillion in compensation for the hydrocarbon exchange being consumed from the state to the Delta region.

He said: “We need 13 percent derivation for water supplied to the Delta.

“Our people are ravaged and displaced year in, year out because of the flow of water from the Niger to the Delta.

“The Federal Government will pay Niger state N1 trillion in the next three months for hydrocarbon exchange, they must.
“We have provided this country with hydropower for a long time; nobody is compensating us for it.

“Abuja Electricity Distribution Company [AEDC] must pay us, they have consumed from Niger state hydrocarbon exchange, and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation [NNPC] must pay us.

“We have woken up, we can never ever tolerate being neglected or abandoned again. The only way we can ensure that the federal government heeds to us is to shut down the hydro dams unless we are paid.

“We are serious about this, it is not a threat; it is a statement. Every dime that is due to us, we will take it, we will take every kobo that is for Niger state.

“We are not going to be marginalised again; our waters, our lands our borders are strengths for us and not weaknesses.

“We demand compensation for our people. Everything, every resource that comes from Niger State must be compensated. We will not tolerate this anymore.

“We must be compensated. Our people have done enough for Nigeria.”

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has upheld the victory of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Abia North Senatorial election held on February 25, 2023.

The court dismissed the petitions filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mao Ohuabunwa, and Labour Party (LP) candidate, Nnamdi Iro Orji, challenging Kalu’s victory.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, failed to produce the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Maitama, as it was directed to do.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had on November 2, ordered the anti-graft agency to either release Emefiele unconditionally or produce him in court to be granted bail.

However, at the resumed proceeding in the matter, Emefiele’s lawyer, Mr Mathew Burkaa, told the court that EFCC flouted the order.

“My lord they have flouted both orders as today marks the 149th day of the Applicant being in custody.

“The Applicant is still in custody of the 3rd and 4th Respondents, up till this moment that we speak,” Emefiele’s lawyer added.

On his part, the lawyer that represented the EFCC, Mr Farouk Abdullahi, while confirming that the order was served on the Commission, said it was not true that Emefiele has been in the custody of the agency for over 100 days.

“My lord, I do confirm that we received the order. It is however not correct that the Applicant has been in custody of the 3rd and 4th Respondent for over 100 days.

“He has only been in custody of 3rd and 4th for only 7 days

“We got the processes and we intend to react to them to set the record straight.
