Future development plans for Pi
The future development plans for Pi Network involve advancing through its three-phase roadmap, currently in Phase III which is split into two parts: the Enclosed Network and the upcoming Open Network. The Enclosed Network phase, started in December 2021, has the mainnet live but with restricted external connectivity, allowing users to complete KYC and migrate their Pi tokens while the ecosystem develops. The planned Open Network phase will remove these restrictions, enabling full external connections to other wallets, networks, and exchanges, expanding Pi's integration and usability globally.
Additionally, Pi Network has launched a $100 million development initiative called Pi Network Ventures to strategically invest in startups and businesses that will build utilities and real-world applications on the Pi blockchain, boosting Pi’s practical use, adoption, and value. They are focused on expanding decentralized applications, strategic partnerships with payment processors, technology companies, and retail, and supporting community-led governance like DAOs to adapt to market changes.
Regionally, the team announced the Africa Developer Program in Q2 2025, investing 5 million PI to incentivize decentralized app development in Africa, signaling targeted ecosystem growth in emerging markets.
In summary, Pi’s major future goals include transitioning to the Open Network for full blockchain connectivity, fostering an ecosystem of decentralized applications and real-world business adoption, strategic partnerships to enhance utility, and active community governance, all supported by substantial investment through Pi Network Ventures.
