I dated my wife for 9 years and we have stayed married in the absence of abuse for 21 yrs -Van Vicker

Today is my 21st wedding anniversary.

I am grateful to God.

Marriage is a bed of thorning roses😁

It has extremely lovely times and really trying moments.

In all moments, 'THE WILL' is key.

Getting married to the 'right' person is critical (knowing the person substantially).

Staying 'in love' is paramount (not just 'loving' your spouse)

And finally for me it's 'the desire' to want to stay married (in the absence of abuse).

The culminated effect of these 3 points may transcend those thorns in the roses.

Pricky as they may be, however, the internal remedies are sufficient to let you move to the next day and the next and for years.

Regardless of the thorns love is STILL a beautiful thing.

I have no regrets been married and staying married. 😊

I pray for Grace to continue this beautiful struggle😁

I am blessed to have my wife Adjoa Van Vicker by my side all these years.

I have known her for 30years of life.

Happy anniversary to us.

Democracy in limbo: 14 years without election in some LGA in Nigeria -Yiaga Africa

Lagos ,Nigeria Yiaga Africa, a non governmental organization, has revealed that some local governments in Nigeria have not done election for eight to 14 years .
This is even as they called for electoral reforms to strengthen local government areas (LGAs) in Nigeria.

The organization proposed amendments to the electoral laws to align with the Electoral Act 2022, aiming to ensure autonomy and accountability in local government elections.

Cynthia Mbamalu, Director of Programmes at Yiaga Africa, the reforms are necessary to address the challenges facing local government elections, including the lack of autonomy, inconsistent tenure, and inadequate funding. "Some states have not had local government elections for over 8 to 14 years, which is wrong. Most local governments elections in Nigeria are run on caretaker committees rather than by elected chairpersons," she said.

The proposed amendments include:

- A uniform four-year tenure for local government chairpersons and councillors
- Clear definition of roles and responsibilities to prevent overlaps and conflicts with state governments
- Full financial and operational autonomy for local governments
- Publication of election notices 360 days ahead of elections to allow for adequate planning and preparation
- Funding for State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) to ensure autonomy and adequate resources for conducting elections

Afolabi Abiodun, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Political, Legislative, and Civil Engagement, emphasized the importance of democratically elected local governments. "Democratically elected local governments are a must. Any state that has not done theirs can get it right," he said.

Stanley Kuti, Director of LASIEC, noted the need to build trust and address voter apathy. "The electoral act 2022 has made it mandatory for the LASEIC laws to be reviewed, and that is what this program is addressing. Those challenges are being addressed," he said.

Oladipo Ajomale , Lagos Lawmaker, emphasized the need for electoral reform. "We are reviewing the electoral laws of 2022 because they do not conform with the electoral act. This is the way the local government can be held accountable and responsible for their activities," he said.

Residents react to two-time fire outbreak on popular discount supermarket

Residents of Amuwo Odofin and Festac Town area of Lagos state were taken aback by the recent fire outbreak that razed down Globus supermarket 2 years after one of their branches was razed by the same fire outbreak. The fire, which occurred yesterday, destroyed goods worth millions of naira and resulted in the feared death of one female staff member. Other staff members suffered injuries in the resultant stampede.

Reacting to the news, a customer of the store, Susan, questioned the incident, noting that it could be a targeted one by competitors. Another person, Nonso, who is a lawyer, said that it could be a case of arson and needs to be thoroughly investigated. However, another customer believes that it could be a spiritual problem. Voicing her concerns, Queen said that the case needs to be spiritually looked into.

It will be recalled that around August 2022, the management of Globus Supermarket experienced a similar incident at one of their outlets on 23 Road area of Festac with goods worth millions of naira.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of this report, although eyewitnesses claim it started around 11 am. Residents blamed the delayed arrival of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for the extensive damage caused by the fire.

According to one eyewitness named Joseph, the fire service arrived at 12 noon and initially used the water they had to extinguish some parts of the fire. However, they reportedly waited for a long time for additional water before continuing their operation.

Contradicting these claims, the Deputy Head of Operations for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mr. Olajide Ogabi, stated that the team arrived promptly upon receiving the alert. He denied the delay for water and explained that the ongoing fire was due to uncertainty about the store's contents.

Confirming the death of her elder sister who was one of the staff, a witness who is a sister to the deceased responded that the injured female staff member had died after being taken to the hospital.

Truly, Spirits Exist. So I decided to resume work this week cause I have kids to take care of and bills and debts to pay. I needed to resume my business cause I wanted to be busy inorder not to fall into depression.

While returning back from work yesterday night, I flagged down a vehicle and told the driver my location which he agreed and told me my bill, I gladly accepted and entered inside and we began the trip.

Shortly, he stopped and picked another guy and I got suspicious but I was already feeling very dizzy and weak, I couldn't even open my mouth to talk again. I was gradually becoming unconscious 😭😭😭

Then I saw my late husband jogging outside the vehicle, he told me not to shut my eyes cause he needed me to come out of the vehicle at the next junction. I was trying to comprehend what was happening and the next thing I saw, the driver immediately diverted from the road and was heading into a different street entirely 😭😭😭

By this time, I was already oblivious of what was happening, only to see my late husband stepping into the vehicle, he took me by my hands and flinged me outside the vehicle, he kept screaming the names of my kids into my ears until I woke up and saw that I was already surrounded by people and I was blee.ding seriously cause they stab.ed me on my head 😭😭

Even in de@th, my baby boy is still watching over his baby girl! I have decided to stop crying and stay strong for my kids but at times, I can't just help myself 😭😭😭

Dear Ekum, thank you for being so exceptional, you loved me till death and you're still watching over me and the kids. Your legacy can't be quantified at all 😭😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

…They are looking for more scapegoats

Funny reactions have ensued over a post by Erisco Foods asking for reviews from consumers on their products.

Some commented suggesting that they were seeking for more scapegoats from the request.

This comes just days after a trending video of a reviewer who, on September 17, 2023, did a review of one of their tomato paste products on her social media page and was subsequently taken to court.

Upon Erisco's request for reviews, netizens were suspicious and questioned if the food manufacturer was looking to find more scapegoats from the reviews.

Following numerous funny and sarcastic comments on the post, Erisco Foods decided to lock their comment section.

On September 17, 2023, a female customer named Chioma Egodi gave a negative review of Erisco Nagiko Tomato Mix. She posted an image of the tomato tin she purchased from a store, stating, "I decided to taste it. Sugar content is just too high."

Whose duty is it to shop for the home?

Is shopping for the home the duty of men or women? Our society believes that it is the duty of women to shop, but a new development shows that more men, especially married men, are beginning to shop now.
We believe this is due to the high cost of food items.
During our market survey for the cost of goods, we discovered that not only are prices doubling, but many married men were seen with lists in their hands in the market.

They were buying mostly things for soup and stew.
We believe that this is due to the frequent increase in prices of goods.

Most of them may think that their wives take more money from them to buy things, so this is more like them ensuring that their women aren’t swindling them of their money.

During the survey, a man told the seller of soup items that his wife asked him to buy more palm fruit for the soup.
He reacted this way, stressing that the quantity the seller gave him for a certain amount was too small for the price.
