Aftermath of Heavy Rainfall in Lagos Brings Chaos: Power Outages and Flooding Plague Residents
In the early hours of today, Lagos experienced a relentless downpour that left a trail of chaos in its wake.
The heavy rain not only caused severe flooding due to blocked drainages but also brought with it a dramatic display of thunder and lightning, resulting in widespread power outages.
Further reports reveal that the impact of the thunder and lightning extended beyond affecting solar panels and inverters. Several households experienced damage to their TVs, ACs, bulbs, and electrical cables, leaving them in need of repairs or replacements.
Our reporter on the ground observed that during the thunderstorm, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) cut off electricity supply, plunging many homes into darkness. Even those relying on inverters faced a similar fate as the storm wreaked havoc on their power backup systems.
Intriguingly, a local resident who spoke to The Lens suggested a unique perspective on the thunderstorm's behavior.
According to this individual, thunder might follow a particular path, possibly explaining why it affected electrical appliances in some areas.
He elaborated that if the thunder had followed tree lines instead, it could have led to uprooted or burnt trees.
These unexpected incidents, coupled with the extensive power outages and flooding, have left Lagos residents facing an array of challenges during this trying time.
Mrs. Susan, a resident of Satellite Town in Lagos, shared her experience with The Lens, explaining that her usually reliable solar panel system was affected by the storm.
She explained that the thunder protector on her solar panel was responsible for the initial power outage during the storm.
She clarified that the protector, designed to safeguard against lightning strikes, caused the power to go off briefly but then came back on immediately.
She recounted, "When the lightning struck, our solar power went out, but than

ENUGU STATE- Fear Grips Residents as Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt Along Ugwogo Nike
Residents in the Ugwogo Nike area of Enugu State are living in fear following a recent kidnapping attempt that occurred on Sunday.
The incident has raised concerns among locals who are now pleading with the Enugu State government to provide adequate security for their communities.
The affected areas, including Ogbeke Nike, Ugbomike, Ugwogo Nike, and surrounding regions, have seen a surge in kidnapping cases.
Many of the residents, who rely on farming for their livelihoods, can no longer tend to their farms deep in the bush due to the looming threat of abduction.
A resident of Ugbomike, who spoke with The Lens, revealed that the situation has forced them to retire to bed early, and they dare not venture into their farms as kidnappers often lurk in the fields, waiting to ambush unsuspecting victims.
The attempted kidnapping on Sunday further intensified residents' fears. Hoodlums had blocked a road along Ugwogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka and opened fire indiscriminately. Fortunately, police operatives from the Enugu State Command were swift to respond, effectively foiling the attack.
During the operation, two of the criminals were neutralized on the spot, while others managed to escape into the forest, presumably with gunshot wounds. The police also seized an AK-47 rifle with two magazines, along with eighty-two rounds of 5.56mm and sixteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Additionally, a cutlass, two mobile phones, and other incriminating evidence were recovered from the criminals.
However, the bravery of the police came at a cost. One police operative sustained a gunshot wound during the exchange and, sadly, succumbed to his injuries. His body has been transferred to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
In response to the incident, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, praised the police personnel, Neighbourhood Watch Group, and Forest Guards involved in the op
