COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE OODUA PEOPLES' CONGRESS (OPC) LED BY THE 15TH AARE ONAKAKANFO OF YORUBA LAND, IBA GANI ABIODUN IGE ADAMS AT THE FIRST NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (NEC)/NATIONAL COORDINATING COUNCIL (NCC) MEETING OF THE ORGANIZATION HELD ON THURSDAY 4TH OF JANUARY AND FRIDAY 5TH OF JANUARY, 2024 AT THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT OF THE CONGRESS, (OODUA HOUSE) LOCATED AT 14B, EZEKIEL STREET, OFF TOYIN STREET, IKEJA LAGOS.

The Highest Decision making organ of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) comprising the National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Coordinating Council (NCC) today, Friday, January 5, 2024, rounded off a two-day meeting during which the congress resolved as follows:

1.That the OPC under the amiable leadership of the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams resolved to continue to raise the standard of all the cultural promotion activities of the organization.

(2) That the Congress also resolved to fully participate in the 6th Coronation celebration of our father and leader, the 15th Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, coming up on Sunday 21st of January, 2024.

(3)That the Congress restates its commitment to promote peace, unity, and seek economic prosperity of the South West region and Nigeria as a whole.

(4) That the OPC reiterates its position on restructuring via regionalism, where the six regions (federating units) under the Nigerian federation would be allowed to develop at their own pace in accordance with the 1960 and 1963 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

(5) That the Congress has resolved to participate fully in the 10th annual World Congress of our sister Organization OPU coming up in Osogbo, between January 24 and 21,2023.

(6) The Congress also encouraged members to build their education capacity by furthering their education, especially with the courses offered at the Institute of Culture and Tourism and other higher institutions of learning.

(7) The Congress calls on the Federal Government to urgently repair our Refineries to alleviate the sufferings of the Nigerian citizens.

(8) That the Congress reiterates its commitment to the ideology of promoting the cultural heritage and tradition of the Yoruba race.

(9) That the Congress Appeals to Ekiti and Ondo state government to recognize August 20 as Iseese day as it was done by other four states in the south west.

The Recognition of Iseese day is beyond religion and it is to identify with Yoruba tradition and culture and to also fulfill the destiny of our race.

(10) That the congress urged the traditional rulers in the south west not to allow any practice that can denigrate the traditional institution.

The OPC maintained also that the practice of installing an Oba in the diaspora is nothing but a fraud and an aberration to the traditional institution.

(11) The Congress condemn in strong terms the continuous genocide in Plateau State and other states of the Federation as it urged the Middle Belt to inaugurate state local security architecture like that of the Amotekun so as to tackle the spate of insecurity across the region.

(12) That the Congress is ready to partner with the Government of the South West States in their desire to improve the Security architecture in their respective States and also to
combat the raging insecurity across the country.

(13).That the Congress urged the National Population Commission to conduct the National Census Programme to ascertain the true numbers of population of the citizens across the country as true reflection of the total population of Nigeria; as well as to create a database that will help in a solving the security deficit as well as the socio-economic problems of the country.

(14) That the Congress appeals to the Federal Government to avoid any further increase in the prices of fuel and electricity in order not to add to the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
