I do not want to lose my son – Primeboy’s mother,,The mother of late singer, MohBad’s childhood friend, Ibrahim Owodunni aka Primeboy, has begged for help following the detention of her son by Lagos State Police.
The Nation reported that MohBad was formerly signed into the Marlian Record label owned by Naira Marley.

With respect to the investigation into MohBad’s tragic death, several suspects, including the auxiliary nurse that treated him Feyisoya Ogedengbe, Sam Larry, Naira Marley, and Primeboy are in police custody. Speaking on Monday, in a viral video on social media, Primeboy’s mother begged actress Iyabo Ojo, journalist Oriyomi Hamzat and Nigerians to intervene, adding that she doesn’t want to lose her son.

She also said she raised Primeboy “to be of good behaviour”, arguing that “I do not have a child that can perpetrate such an act”. “My fellow Nigerians. My patriotic Nigerians, I am addressing this to you. I came out because of you. I beg you in the name of God have mercy on me. Iyabo Ojo, as you are going and coming, you will not experience evil. I know you always say the truth. Please I don’t have anything and anybody. I’m from a humble background. That’s why I taught my children how to be content with whatever they have. All mothers please stand for me. He is my first child. I don’t want to lose him. Do not let them use my son to settle war. Hamzat, please help me. Your children will not go missing. Ibrahim and I were also saddened by Mohbad’s death too. There is no killer in my lineage. That Mohbad you are talking about, once lived with me and my children. Come and ask in our area. We stayed 24 hours together. Mohbad paid for where I’m selling outside. They have used Mohbad to sadden me. Do not allow them to take away Ibrahim from me,” she said.

LagosCommissioner of Police on Friday named the auxiliary nurse who injected Mohbad as the “prime suspect” in his death.

Naira Marley didn’t bully MohBad, says lawyer.. Controversial singer Naira Marley’s lawyer Olalekan Ojo has denied his client was involved in the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka MohBad.
The late MohBad died on September 12 in unclear circumstances, which have been followed up by a series of police investigations and a coroner inquest.

However, speaking in a video chat with social media personality, Daddy Freeze, Naira Marley’s lawyer said there is no evidence that his client bullied the late Mohbad. He said: “As for Naira Marley, I believe very strongly that no matter how hard you look, you will not find a single incident where Naira Marley bullied him. Ojo said what transpired in a viral video in which controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, tried to bully Mohbad but was stopped by Zlatan during a video shoot was misinterpreted by the public. The lawyer said Larry, MohBad, and Zlatan settled their issue and ate “Amala together after the incident”, adding that there is a longer version of the video which showed the trio together.

He recalled: “Sometimes in June 2023, he (Sam Larry) came to Elegushi beach and heard some musicians were shooting a musical video, so he wanted to see who they were. Remember that in that video, he said so it’s even you. That video is a nine-second video, and it will interest you to know that there is a longer version showing these guys eating Amala together after the incident.

Lagos Police Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa has given a preliminary report of its ongoing inquiry into the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka MohBad.
At a briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, Owohunwa explained MohBad sustained serious injury in a fight between him and friend, Oladunni Ibrahim aka Primeboy after a performance at Ikorodu Town Hall on September 10, 2023.

He said the rapper, who was bleeding profusely from the injury, refused to visit the hospital for treatment even after his wife and friend advised him to. By the time they got to his Lekki residence, the hand had swollen, causing severe pains yet he refused visiting the hospital, insisting on calling his nurse to treat him at home.

But his nurse was unavailable at the time and his friend offered to call, his, a ‘quack’ nurse who eventually came the next day, administered three injections to the injured MohBad which led to major complications and ultimate death in less than an hour later, on Tuesday, September 12. At the end of his performance at about 2300hrs, as he made to exit the venue with his entourage, he discovered that his vehicle had been blocked by other vehicles while some of his fans and Area Boys also mobbed him.

“MohBad who from witnesses’ evidence was said to be tipsy and hyperactive became infuriated and as he attempted to come down to clear the road, Ibrahim, his friend, prevailed on him not to for security reasons. This further infuriated MohBad and degenerated into a hot argument and physical fight between the two of them. In the course of an attempt to hit Ibrahim with a blow, MohBad missed and smashed the rear window of their Prado Jeep causing him an injury on his forehand and he bled profusely.

“Eventually, the situation was brought under control, and they all departed for the Lekki residence of MohBad, excluding Ibrahim. Upon arrival at home at about 0200hrs of 11th September, 2023, Mohbad refused to go to the hospital to treat his injury despite persistent persuasion by his wife, staff and friends including the Prado Jeep driver whose vehicle was damaged.

“Later in the day, the injured hand which was still bleeding, started getting swollen causing MohBad unbearable pains. His friend Ayobami Sadiq (Spending), who noticed the increasing pains, further insisted that he must go to the hospital for treatment.

“MohBad still resisted and opted to call his personal nurse identified as Nurse Funmi, who unfortunately was unavailable. When Ms Feyisayo was contacted at about 1430hrs on Monday 11th September, 2023, she was also unavailable but promised to come the following day, Tuesday, 12th September, 2023.

“Ahead of her arrival, she requested that the picture of the swollen hand/injury area be snapped and forwarded to her for assessment and to guide on the medication to come along with. This was eventually done.

“At about 1435hrs on 12th September, 2023, Ms Feyisayo eventually arrived armed with 1 Pack of Ceftriaxone injection; 1 Vial Paracetamol injection, Tetanus Toxoid injection, 1 Vial Procaine Penicillin, 7 ampules of IM Diclofenac, Tincture Iodine, and Needles/Syringes.

“Ms Feyisayo administered the Tetanus Toxoid on the arm of MohBad and gave both the Paracetamol and Ceftriaxone injection intravenously.

“Immediately the Ceftriaxone injection was administered, Ms Feyisayo confirmed that MohBad started vomiting while goose bumps appeared on his face and all over the body.

“At this point, it dawned on Ms Feyisayo that MohBad was reacting to the administered medication. She consequently ran out to procure hydrol and nisaline infusion. While at the Pharmacy in the locality, she got a call that MohBad had started convulsing. Eventually, Cynthia Omoduni Adebanjo, Aduragbemi Shedrack Aloba, Olarewaju Idris Adedoja, Ayinde Habib Idowu Damola, Aderinto Fawas Ademola, and Ms. Feyisayo rushed him to the hospital in the vehicle of Engr. Chinaka Jesse, their neighbour.

“Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Cura-Med Hospital, Lekki. Not convinced, the team moved his body to Perez Hospital, Lekki where his death was re-certified. A death certificate was later issued by Cura-Med hospital.

“MohBad’s father who had earlier been contacted, came to the Late Mohbad’s house and after a short meeting, resolved to move the body to Ikorodu for burial, which was done the following day, 13th September 2023 at about 1400hrs.”

Thousands of Nigerians have since demanded justice for Mohbad in nationwide protests. On September 18, the Lagos police inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.

Owohunwa had vowed that the command would use all its powers to fish out everyone indicted in the case. On September 21, the police exhumed Mohbad’s co**se for autopsy and are awaiting the results. The Lagos police on Tuesday announced it had Naira Marley in its custody for interrogation.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday, October 4, assured that they would ensure the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, receives proper compensation and royalties for his music.
A member of Representatives and chairman of the House committee on Justice, Olumide Osoba, gave the assurance at an interactive session with officials of the Nigeria Copyrights Commission made on the rights and royalties related to Mohbad’s music.

He also said that efforts should be made to provide accessible legal advice and assistance to young musicians through organizations, unions, or educational programs. The session was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance earlier moved by Rep Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos) to secure the royalties for the late singer on his songs.

Osoba who emphasized the significance of securing compensation and royalties said these payments are essential sources of income for musicians and will enable artists to sustain their careers, create new music, and build a future within the industry. He regretted that the current system often falls short in adequately protecting and providing for young musicians concerning their royalty rights. Accordibg to the Ogun lawmaker, many emerging artists face challenges when negotiating fair royalty agreements, particularly when dealing with major record labels, which often wield significant power and can impose unfavorable terms, resulting in artists receiving only a fraction of the royalties they deserve.

He said: “It is crucial to recognise that young musicians are often not well-informed about their rights when entering into any contracts, adding that such knowledge gap places them at a disadvantage, as they may not fully grasp the complex legal intricacies surrounding royalty rights. Osoba said the responsibility rests on society to bridge the knowledge gap and ensure that young musicians are aware of their rights while having access to legal support that safeguards their interests.

He emphasis that it is vital to work towards implementing stronger regulations and support systems within the industry. This includes advocating for more transparent and standardized contracts for all artists, irrespective of their age or experience, to level the playing field and prevent the exploitation of young talent.

He explained that equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to understand and negotiate contracts will empower them to protect their rights and secure fair compensation for their creative contributions.

Osoba stated: “Additionally, there is a need to adapt the music industry to the digital age. While digital streaming platforms have revolutionized music consumption and distribution, young musicians often struggle to earn a substantial income due to outdated royalty structures. “Advocating for revised royalty models that accurately reflect the value of music in the streaming era is essential.

He said the committee will ensure that the rights of young musicians regarding royalties is of paramount importance, stressing that collective efforts should be made to guarantee that they receive fair compensation for their hard work and artistic contributions.

This according to him is by promoting transparency, education, and change within the industry, a future can be created where young musicians have a fair chance to thrive and build sustainable careers.

I gave Mohbad N2m to perform but never showed up, Sam Larry claims.......
Controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, claimed that he gave, Mohbad, a sum of N2 million to perform at his mother’s annual remembrance, saying that the late singer never showed up for the engagement.
He said that the incident happened two years ago, stating that after Mohbad received the above-mentioned sum to perform at the event in Ikorodu; he never showed up or called to explain why until he reached out to him.

The embattled Marlian associate, who’s being accused of involvement in the tragic demise of Mohbad, made these allegations in his official statement from police custody...In his statement, among other claims, Sam Larry said: “Two years ago, I gave N2 million to lleri to perform at my mother’s annual remembrance concert in lkorodu...The boy never turned up, so I called him to ask why. He then said he was not feeling well, and when I asked for a refund, he said he lost his phone and money recently when the NDLEA raided his place.”

“Since he was leaving Marlian Records, he claimed he was now broke and had no commitment to repay. I left it at that. Later, I heard that this same boy was having a music video shoot next door, practically on the next street to my house. So, I went there to ask for my money again.” “We had an argument that lasted 5 minutes. Even one of his friends insisted he was going to pay the money. Up until today, not one kobo has been repaid, and this incident happened early last year. I have since moved on...I travelled to Kenya to find a new African act that can perform at my mother’s concert this year. I have been away since August 20th, and till now, I don’t know anything other than what was written in the blogs and the press. I don’t even know where he lives.

“I only know his former label boss and their house. I don’t know any nurse, doctor, or hospital. I don’t know anything about his movements. I don’t have that time. I have lost a lot more money than that before; you win some, you lose some...That is my story, case closed. I came here willingly and happily. I know nothing about how the musician died.”

27/09/2023

Michael Olayemi Cardoso yesterday began his tenure as the 12th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor following his clearance for the position by the Senate.

He promised to provide transparent and focused leadership with full adherence to the rules and return the apex bank to its core monetary policy responsibility.

He also pledged to work in synergy with the fiscal authorities in the overall interest of the economy in the short and medium term.

Cardoso, 66, a former chairman of Citi Bank, was Lagos State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

He spoke during his screening alongside the four deputy governors by the Senate. All of them were cleared.

The deputy governors are: Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

The deputy governors also responded to some of the questions posed by senators, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

All the nominees left the senators in no doubt about their capacity and capability.

Cardoso said for 12 years, between 2010 and 2022 he had the privilege of serving as the chairman of Citi Bank where: “I dedicated myself to enhancing both the financial and non-financial operations of the institution.’’

He told the Senate that the issue of exchange rate of the Naira to other currencies was worrisome.

“For the type of economy that we want, we need to have an exchange rate that is stable and we must apply short and medium term measures to achieve this,’’ he said.

Cardoso added that CBN’s new management team would evolve rules that were open and transparent and comprehensible by all players in the finance business.

“We cannot expect serious foreign investors and portfolio investors who have an impact on the market to do so if we do not have a transparent system that everybody understands and can rely on,’’ he said.

On inflation, he said: “There is the need to significantly revamp the infrastructure at the central bank with respect to data and to ensure that our data gathering capacity is significantly enhanced.

“This is necessary so that we can make decisions based on stellar data. This is crucial in measuring inflation,’’ he stressed.

He added that reliable studies showed that in the past 10 years to 15 years, at least 50 per cent of inflation resulted from money supply and deficit financing.

“This is a big problem; at least it certainly has been over a period of time and it is something we have to face frontally.

“You have been hearing a lot of complaints. There are various measures to be taken and some of them are already being taken like the removal of fuel subsidy and fast-tracking the collection of taxes,” he said.

Cardoso added: “In refocusing CBN to its core mandate, there is need to pull the CBN back from direct development, finance interventions into more limited advisory roles that support economic growth. These advisory roles would include, for instance, one, act as a catalyst in propagation of specialized institutions and financial products that support emerging sectors of the economy, facilitate new regulatory frameworks to unlock enormous capital, accelerate access to consumer credit, and expand financial inclusions to the masses.”

He assured the Senate that the CBN under his watch will not be hijacked or used by politicians.

He said: “This is a position of great trust and with that it comes with huge responsibility to meet up that trust …and my idea is to do what is right and how it is right. We have seen the effect of not doing what is right and we do not intend to go that route.

“Secondly, on the issue of not obeying the hallowed chambers’ summons for conversation, frankly, I have absolute no doubt that that has got to be part of the engagements that I spoke about earlier.

“Part of that is that the law specifies that such dialogue should take place twice in a year and as I said in resetting the Central Bank, we must ensure that we do not run foul of the law.

“It goes back to the issue of culture of compliance. We are going to ensure we maintain a culture of compliance in the CBN. There will be zero tolerance for non-complying with orders and I can assure you that that tone would be fully set from the top.”

He added: “What is important to us is the element of economic growth. Our feeling is that in identifying the important issues with economic growth, we believe very strongly that size matters.

“The economic policy proposal of the administration has identified a set of fiscal reforms and growth patterns that will achieve $1trillion GDP within eight years.

“In reviewing selected growth targets that can achieve $1trn GDP, selected countries with large population and similar characteristics as Nigeria, it is interesting to identify micro-economics indicies that points to Nigeria’s economic trajectory, being faithful to implementation of the proposed economic reforms.

“In economies bigger than $1trillion, these indices include moderate inflation, sizeable foreign reserves and capacity to creating rebound from economic downturns.

“In other words, to the extent that the administration has defined such a bold target for the country, it is our feeling that achieving this is very critical to achieve the stability that we require in various economic indices.

“It is not the only thing, but it is very important. So we believe that this is the right way to go.

He insisted that the immediate issues his team would address at the CBN include both Operational and Systems.

He added: “It is what I will term uncorrelalational issues. We are aware that there are unsettled obligations by the CBN. Whether it is $4b, $5b or $7b I don’t know but definitely the immediate priority is to ascertain the extent.

“We need to find a way to take care of that. It will be naive for us to be expecting to succeed if we are not able to handle that side of the foreign exchange market.

According to him, the medium term measures in reviving the economy “have to do with balance of payments over a period of time like the sort of things that are being done already with respect to ensuring that we are getting more from petroleum resources with the removal of fuel subsidy and diversifying the economic base of the country.

“That I believe will continue by the present administration and of course it will take time. I think we should take that as a medium term measure than the immediate.”

Many financial experts rated the appearance of the CBN governor and his deputies high, especially their pledge to return the apex bank to its core responsibilities.
