Expectations about Dangote Refinery inauguration are Extremely Exaggerated

The ceremony around the planned visit by the Nigerian President to the Dangote Refinery on May 22, 2023, will peak with a cutting of the ribbon, 'inaugurating' the 650,000Barrels per Stream Day Plant, located in the eastern flank of Lagos, the country's commercial city.
Everyone, it seems, looks forward to production of petroleum products from the plant after that symbolic activity.
But it will not happen.
As President Muhammad Buhari leaves office a week after
"commissioning" of one of the largest, single train hydrocarbon processing plants on the planet, he could be forgiven for believing he had had his wish to be in such a large place, but technology does not sit well with politics.
The ongoing technical commissioning process has not gotten anywhere close to the point of introducing raw hydrocarbon into the plant, let alone delivering petroleum products. Read more...https://oilandgastrendsmagazine.com/expectations-about-dangote-refinery-inauguration-are-extremely-exaggerated/

NUPRC plans fast licensing for indigenous oil firms

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has said that the commission will support indigenous oil and companies with the right policies and regulations to grow.

The commission Chief Executive, NUPRC, Mr Gbenga Komolafe, stated this during a visit to the exhibition booth of Green Energy International Limited at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, United States of America.

He said the oil and gas industry regulator would continue to support companies in the ranks of Green Energy International with a quick turnaround time for licensing and other necessary approvals needed to grow their business.

He said at a time when funding for oil and gas projects was becoming difficult due to policies around energy transition and a deliberate shift to renewable energy projects, Green Energy International had been able to secure funding for its projects.

According to him, the ability of the company to secure funding for its various projects is a testament that it is on the right track and as such, needed all the right support to grow.

‘‘If you look at what the company has done. You will discover that they have tried to leverage on in-country capability and that is in alignment with what NUPRC is doing. We have come here as a commission to give them encouragement and to assure the company that the NUPRC will give them all the backing as a business enabler.” Read more...https://oilandgastrendsmagazine.com/nuprc-plans-fast-licensing-for-indigenous-oil-firms/

Embargo on Russian gas opens $176m revenue window for Nigeria

NMDPRA rallies stakeholders for gas utilisation to boost devt
Nigeria stands to earn $176 million, if it can explore embargo on Russian gas to supply 10.7 per cent of the total Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) supplies to Europe (512 billion cubic feet) to bridge its cash crunch challenge.

This comes as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) urged collaborations and interventions among stakeholders to improve domestic gas utilisation in the country.

The embargo that saw cancellation of the Nord Stream II and sabotage of the Nord Stream I Yamal pipeline has opened an opportunity for Nigerian LNG to supply 10.7 per cent (55 billion cubic feet or 1.1 million metric tonnes) of the total consumption of Europe, which is 512 billion cubic feet (or 10.5 metric tonnes) yearly.

Fuel Subsidy: Be Ready To Pay N100,000 Minimum Wage, NLC Tells FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said the plans of the federal government to remove the contentious fuel subsidy would be an open invitation to social and economic crisis in Nigeria.

The outgoing government under President Muhammadu Buhari had fixed June as the date for the removal of the fuel subsidy and announced the approval of N5,000 palliative to poor citizens as part of measures to ameliorate the expected difficulties that would follow the eventual removal.

But the NLC explained that the incoming administration of Bola Tinubu must tread with caution on the subsidy policy in order not to further plunge the nation into problems, adding that there would be increased poverty among the citizens if the government goes ahead with the removal.
