Nigeria Ranked 3rd Worst Police Force in Africa, Fails to Make Top 10 Best List

A new 2025 ranking of police forces across Africa has placed Nigeria in a worrying position, ranking third worst police force on the continent.

According to the report, Nigeria failed to appear among the top 10 best police institutions in Africa. Instead, the country was listed among the bottom 10, with a score of 0.270, placing only ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo (0.230) and Uganda (0.230).

Top performers in the ranking include Mauritius (0.680), Algeria (0.560), Botswana (0.530), Egypt (0.500), and Burkina Faso (0.490). Meanwhile, countries like Kenya, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia, and Guinea also featured on the bottom list.

Reacting to the ranking, human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe lamented that Nigeria’s police force continues to damage the country’s reputation in the international community.

“This is not to slight the image of the Nigeria Police Force, but to remind them that they keep damaging the image of Nigeria in the eyes of the world,” he said.

“Cry my people, cry for Nigeria.”

The revelation has once again stirred debate on the urgent need for police reform and accountability in Africa’s most populous nation.

Delta: Man on Trial for Defiling Own Children Dies in Prison Custody

A man identified as David, who was facing trial for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old daughter and sodomising his 6-year-old son, has died while in custody at Okere Prison, Delta State.

David, said to be HIV positive, was arrested in March after his wife petitioned human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe, alleging that he had been abusing their children. Reports further indicate that David had already infected his wife with the virus before turning on his daughter.

According to Joe, the suspect admitted to the crime in a voice note to his wife. Despite pleas from some family members to withdraw the case, the activist insisted on pursuing justice.

David was denied bail in July after Joe expressed dissatisfaction with the legal handling of the case at the Ministry of Justice. His trial was adjourned to October.

However, prison officials confirmed that the suspect fell critically ill in custody. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from complications linked to his health condition.

The case has now been closed following his death.

Rivers State Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving Service Don Start as Emergency Rule Near End

Activities wey go mark the end of emergency rule for Rivers State don kick off today with one big inter-denominational thanksgiving service for the Ecumenical Centre, Abonnema Wharf, Port Harcourt.
