Remember the era of the big bag?😏

The short answer: provenance.

The 3-strand, imitation pearl necklace made its storied appearance on the neck of former first lady of the USA, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in a photo of her holding her son, John Jr. Estimated at $500-700, it ended up selling for a shocking $211,500 simply because of its history and previous owner.

Many other examples abound of similarly-unimportant objets suddenly commanding ridiculously high prices at auction, enough to make you believe that they are the norm. And they might be: but, before you commit a large chunk of your money to items like these, it is important to remember that what is valued today might mean nothing to the next generation of collectors. As such, it is too much of a gamble to place your purchase decision solely on provenance.

In the world of pre-loved luxury fashion, archival fashion is the latest trend you may not have heard of.

Archival fashion isn’t just about pre-owned luxury fashion items: it refers to famous luxury fashion items that are older than 10 years, and must have been famous enough to be instantly recognisable by those who know them.

Also known as trophy vintage, these clothes, shoes, purses, sunglasses, and other accessories usually have the following qualities in their provenance: ‘celebrity-worn’, ‘red carpet appearance’, ‘popular TV show or movie debut’ or some other characteristic that sets them apart from other pre-loved luxury fashion items.

If vintage luxury is your thing, perhaps it is time to upgrade to trophy vintage for an extra special experience.

Sounds cheesy but, here’s a quick question for you: What would you be doing on your next vacation?

If you’re clueless, you could borrow inspiration from the ultra-rich and get that beauty treatment you’ve been curious about. After all, what’s the fun in staying in bed all day and making a weary trip to the restaurant at night just to fill your belly and fuel your body for even more sleep?🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾🤷🏾‍♂️

And while those instagrammable pictures are fire, you deserve more out of your trip than pretty images and dreamy videos. Like getting an IV stem cell treatment or feasting on healthy blue-zone-inspired meals throughout your trip.
