Lessons from my Quiet time:
The Folly of Comparison
"For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise."
2 Corinthians 10:12
Certainly, when we measure or compare ourselves to ourselves, we show how foolish we are. Watching people and comparing yourself to them will not make you better but bitter. Comparing yourself with your classmates who are "making it" is foolishness! Feeling sorry or disappointed with yourself because a brother or sister built a house is foolishness.
Let's consider 3 reasons why you must not engage in comparison:
1. God made you differently
You are remarkably different from your brother or friend! God did not design you to operate at the same level as your friends or siblings. Do you know that God has set a different race before you? You are not designed to run the race meant for your brother or sister. The Bible says, "They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded."
Joel 2:7-8
2. You have different abilities
"And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and another one; to every man according to his several abilities; and straightway took his journey."
Matthew 25:15
Your ability or natural endowment is different from your friend's! As such, comparing your ability with your friend's ability is foolishness. Measuring your achievement with your friend's achievements is foolishness! For instance, a sister who is comparing herself with another sister who got married is not wise. Anytime the devil tempts you to compare yourself with others, calm down to ask yourself: "Will I be prepared to experience their struggles or troubles? Will I be prepared to bear their burdens?" If you know the kind of burden that people are bearing, you will never engage in comparison.
3. You were made for a unique purpose!
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5
You are set apart for God's unique purpose. You are appointed to accomplish a unique assignment.
Only you can fulfil your purpose! Comparing your purpose or assignment with other people's is foolishness. Try to be content with your unique purpose. Try to be content and happy with what you have. In the race of life, nobody is your equal. Stop saying: All my classmates are getting married and having children. But do you know also that some of your classmates are dead and forgotten?
It is wise to appreciate God for your current stage, even as you aspire for greater heights. Thank God you are not in the cemetery or a coma. Thank God you are not sleeping in the street or eating from the dustbin! As you truly thank God for your current level, you are applying for the next.
I decree and declare that you will not engage in comparison in Jesus' mighty name.

Lessons from my QuietTime:
Commanding Fruitfulness
"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
John 15:5
It is God's will or desire that we command fruitfulness. But we can only bear much fruit if we are connected to Jesus Christ, the true vine. No branch can bear any fruit except if it is attached or joined to the vine. So also none of us can amount to anything outside of Christ! Jesus Christ, Himself said in the passage under review, "... without me, ye can do nothing." It is germane to know that our maximum fruitfulness is all about intimacy with Him. When we are joined with Christ intimately and organically our fruitfulness is sure to be abundant.
Let's consider 3 things we must do to command fruitfulness:
1. Place value on His Word
The value we place on His Word will determine how much of His Word we put within our hearts! And the much of His Word we have will determine much of the fruit we bear. We bear many fruits if we allow His word to dwell in us richly. The Bible says, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom..."
Colossians 3:16
2. Love Him sincerely!
We can only bear much fruit through love. Any fruit we bear without love is useless! Hence, Jesus Christ wanted to be sure of Peter's love for Him. The Bible says, "So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs."
John 21:15
Our intimacy with Christ should be on account of sincere love for Him.
3. Do His Word!
By doing His word practically, we validate our attachment to Him. It is not enough to have His words stored in our hearts! Except His words guide our actions, we cannot claim to dwell in Christ. His words should define our daily conduct and behaviour. We deceive ourselves if we only hear His words but without corresponding action.
I decree and declare that you will command fruitfulness always in Jesus' mighty name!
