Under the leadership of former President John Magufuli, Tanzania achieved significant milestones, including attaining Middle-Income country status and providing free education to its citizens. Magufuli demonstrated fiscal responsibility by rejecting a $10 billion loan from China and reducing unnecessary state trips outside Africa. He also streamlined the cabinet, reducing its size from 30 to 19 members, and implemented measures to curb government officials' foreign travel and tax exemptions.
Magufuli's administration oversaw numerous infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway, Mfugale Flyover, Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station, Ubungo Interchange, Selander Bridge, Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, and various healthcare facilities. Additionally, the Port of Dar es Salaam was expanded, and new projects such as an LNG plant, water project, wind farm project, Uhuru Hospital project, gold refinery plant, and Magufuli Bus Terminal were completed.
Furthermore, Magufuli took a strong stance against illegal mining, fining a UK company $300 million and securing 16% ownership in three mines for Tanzania. During his tenure, Air Tanzania acquired six new planes and expanded Terminal III of Julius Nyerere International Airport, enhancing the country's aviation sector.
