Nigerian man and Thai woman arrested for N134m romance scams in Thailand

A Nigerian man, Abuchi Johnkennedy Onyenecherem, and a Thai woman, Ampha ‘Pink’ Phatthap, who were reportedly involved in online ‘romance scams’ that saw their victims swindled of at least B11 million (N134,474,028.70), have been arrested in Thailand.

According to a statement by the police on Thursday, September 30, the suspects were apprehended at a rented room in Srisoonthorn, Thalang, Phuket on Tuesday, September 28. Officers explained that Ampha had created fake identities online, via Facebook, LINE and other online platforms, and deceived victims by enticing them into a romantic relationship, and then having them send money to pay for living expenses, gifts or to send items back to them by post.

Ampha confessed that over six months she had tricked her victims into sending more than B11mn to a specified account. She was then instructed by a network in Bangkok to transfer the funds to other bank accounts. She further confessed she was paid for her role in the scams. Immigration officers said Mr Abuchi had been staying in the country illegally and is being investigated for his possible role in the romance scam

Nigerian US-based model, Fancy Acholonu, has called off her engagement with popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

The couple who had kept their relationship out of public eye for years, officially announced their engagement in May this year.

Three months down the line, both sparked break up rumours as Fancy eliminated all pictures of her ex-fiancé from her Instagram page on Wednesday. The couple’s joint IG account was also deleted on the same day.

The traditional wedding between the former love birds had been scheduled to hold in November 20 at Imo state while the chruch wedding was slated for November 27 in Lagos state.

In announcing the break up, Fancy took to her Instagram page on Thursday to confirm the rumours that the engagement between the couple had been called off.

Twin pastors on the run after allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Lagos

Two young pastors identified as twins, Taiye and Kehinde Sonaike, are currently on the run after allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl at the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State and impregnated her in the process.

The brothers were said to have been indulging in the act for over a year but only recently resulted in pregnancy. A child rights advocate revealed that the twins allegedly connived with a nurse whom they paid N11,000 to abort the pregnancy.

However, prior to the abortion attempt, the young girl spoke to her mother and this led to the arrest of the nurse, who was later released. Meanwhile, the alleged rapists have been on the run and there are no traces of them or their family members in their area, the advocate said.

“They paid the sum of N11, 000 to the nurse who was to abort the pregnancy for the girl. Unfortunately for them, the girl opened up to the parent on Tuesday night while the abortion was supposed to take place on Wednesday night. Out of pain, the victim's mother poisened herself but she got help and is now healthy. “

I'm not angry — Apostle Suleman breaks silence on sxx scandal

General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry (OFM), Apostle Johnson Suleman has said that he is not angry at those attacking him on social media. We recall that Nollywood actress, Chioma Ifemeludike alleged in a viral video that she slept with the popular clergyman for money and the memory has continued to torment her.

Apostle Suleman implored his congregation and followers not to send him any encouraging messages again.

“Why are you encouraging a man that is not discouraged. I’m upset since yesterday. I saw messages saying that I should not worry. Read my countenance, when you see me moody you can encourage me. Do I look like somebody who needs encouragement? I’m not discouraged at all and I’m not angry at those insulting me on social media,” he said.

The clergyman said he is focused on his God-given assignment and the people who are insulting him, only did that because of what they read online.

“They are reacting to what they read. They are reacting to what they see and not what they know. You can’t know me and not like me, it’s impossible. Keep doing what you are doing and I’ll keep doing what I’m doing. I must do the work of he that sent me,” Apostle Suleman said.

He further added that all the videos made against him, he intentionally ignored them.

“My wife can bear witness, all the video done against me I’ve not watch one. Many of you have watched it but me, the subject matter I’ve not watch one. What I don’t see cannot affect me. Somebody sent me a video from a blog yesterday, that was the last time it was on my phone. I guard my heart so that I can have fellowship with God. Stop all these rumors and gossips. What will not encourage me I don’t give attention to it,” Apostle Suleman said.

LAGOS LEADS OTHERS FOLLOW: Lagos Assembly Amends Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.

▪︎No more parading of suspect by Police
▪︎No arrest without warrant, unless suspect Carrie's fi****ms.
▪︎No more arrests of suspect's family members.
▪︎No more torture or harassment of suspects, before or after arrest.
▪︎Suspects should have access to lawyers.

1. No more parading of suspect by Police.
“As from the commencement of this law, the police shall refrain from parading any suspect before the media.”

2. No Arrest without warrant.
The new law makes it mandatory for Police to present an arrest warrant before arresting a suspect, and the only condition to do otherwise is when the person is reasonably suspected to unlawfully be in possession of fi****ms or other such dangerous instruments.

In any case where the suspect does not possess weapons or fi****ms unlawfully, the police must show a warrant of arrest.

3. No more arrest in lieu.
This means that a family member or relations of a suspect can no longer be arrested and only the alleged suspect should be arrested.

The Nigerian Police are used to arresting every person they meet at an arrest location whether the suspect is there or not, this act is no more legal and the police in Lagos can now be sued for arresting friends or family members of a suspect.

4. No more harassments or torture of suspects.
The new law bars the Police from harassing or torturing a suspect before or after arrest.

"A suspect should also be accorded humane treatment, with the right to dignity of person; not subjected to any form of torture, cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment; be brought before the court as prescribed by this law or any other written law; or be released conditionally or unconditionally.”

5. Access to lawyer.
The new law stipulates that a suspect has the right to a lawyer and must not be held in custody beyond the lawful day.

"A person arrested shall be given reasonable facilities for obtaining legal advice, bail or making arrangements for defense or release.”
