🎥Manborg (2011)
Manborg (2011) is a cult classic, low-budget, sci-fi action film written and directed by Steven Kostanski. Known for its intentional campiness, retro aesthetic, and over-the-top action, Manborg blends elements of 80s action, horror, and science fiction with an intentionally absurd and self-aware sense of humor. The film is a fun, intentionally cheesy homage to classic action movies, with a heavy influence from the VHS era of cinema.
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, Manborg begins with the world being devastated by a war between humanity and an army of demons. The story follows Matthew, a man who is killed in battle and then brought back to life as Manborg, a cybernetic super-soldier. Revived by a mad scientist, Dr. J.H. (played by Connor Sweeney), Matthew’s human body is fused with advanced technology, transforming him into a half-man, half-machine hero capable of facing the demonic threats that plague the Earth.
After being resurrected, Manborg teams up with a ragtag group of survivors who are also fighting against the demons. This group includes Justice, a tough warrior, Maggie, a mysterious fighter, and The Baron, an enigmatic yet eccentric individual. Together, they band together to take down Count Draculon, a demon lord who rules over the wasteland with an iron fist and plans to conquer the remnants of humanity.
The film follows their journey as they battle through a series of absurd, over-the-top action scenes filled with cybernetic-enhanced combat, cheesy one-liners, and wild, exaggerated effects. Manborg faces off against a variety of villains, including evil robotic henchmen and monstrous demons. As the story progresses, the team discovers that there is more at stake than just the battle between good and evil, and that there may be even darker forces at work.
