The Nigerian Football Federation failed to send a bus for the team, leaving them stranded at the airport for three hours.

Eventually, three buses were provided to transport the team under difficult conditions through forested areas for over 200 kilometres.

It was reported that despite travelling on a private jet, the Libyan team was forced to land in Lagos instead of Uyo.

Today, Libya fires back, leaving Super Eagles stranded for over 12 hours.

My husband not cause of hardship – Tinubu’s Wife

Kogi Leadership NewsLine

Senator Oluremi Tinubu has said her husband, President Bola Tinubu, should not be blamed for the current economic hardship in Nigeria.

Nigerians have been groaning under economic hardship since the removal of fuel subsidy which pushed the pump price of petrol from N198 to N1,030.

Tinubu announced an end to subsidy during his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, saying the policy was standing in the way of Nigeria’s progress.

But while speaking at the Palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Thursday, the First Lady said the Tinubu administration is still very young.

The wife of the President was in Ife to inaugurate the hostel and a 2.7 kilometer road donated to Ọbafẹmi Awolọwọ University, (OAU), Ile Ife, by the Ooni of Ife and named after her.

She said, “We are just 18 months into our administration; we are not the cause of the current situation; we are trying to fix it and secure the future.

“We know that subsidy has been removed, but with God on our side, in the next two years, Nigeria will be greater than this. Those who attempted removing subsidy before could not see it through. But with your prayers in the next two years, we will build a nation for the future.”

The president’s wife added that her husband is not greedy, thanking God for making him emerge Nigeria’s number one citizen.

“We give glory to God for our status, myself and my husband, we are not greedy but we thank God for what God has done for us. It is not common for rich people to get to this seat but I am grateful to God, we cannot disappoint Nigeria and with the help of God, we are getting to the promised land in no distant time,” she said.

The First Lady who disclosed that she graduated from OAU 41 years ago donated N1 billion to the university for its development and advancement.

While speaking, the Ooni of Ife lauded the Wife of the President for serving as role model to young ones since her days as First Lady of Lagos State.

The traditional ruler said, “I have been a keen admirer of Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a young man eking out a living in Lagos. One of my major attractions was the New Era Initiative especially as it concerns the One Day Governor in Lagos that is totally detribalised and provided opportunities to young secondary school boys and girls to become Governor in Lagos State. This has been a milestone and major inspiration for the younger ones to aspire and proper.”

BREAKING: Alleged N110.4bn fraud: Court issues public summons against Yahaya Bello

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summons against the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The court ordered Bello to attend court and answer to a fresh 16-count charge pending against him.

By the summons, Bello is to attend court on October 24 for his arraignment alongside two other defendants.

Justice Maryanne Anenih issued the order for public summons in a ruling on Thursday, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Anenih ordered the EFCC to publish the public summons in a widely circulating newspaper

She also ordered the EFCC to paste copies of the public summons on Bello’s last known address and in conspicuous places on the court premises.

The EFCC had claimed that it had been unable to serve Bello with the charge filed on September 24, in which the ex-governor and two others were charged with criminal breach of trust to the tune of N110.4 billion.

The other two defendants in charge are Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.

Bello’s absence stalled the arraignment earlier scheduled for Thursday. Kogi Leadership NewsLine

Kogi Leadership NewsLine Abia state to Commence Payment of New Minimum Wage in October:

ABIA State Government has said it would commence the implementation of the new minimum wage from October 2024.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who disclosed this in Umuahia during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting, said the payment would cut across all categories of workers.

He said the decision was in fulfilment of Governor Alex Otti’s promise to Abia workers.

The Commissioner also said the move underscored the commitment of the current administration to the welfare of workers.

Recall that after much negotiations with labour, the Federal Government recently approved N70,000 as the new minimum wage.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the State Government would, in two weeks, flag off the construction of ultramodern court halls in each of the 17 Local Government Areas in the state.

This, according to him, is to ensure that the “administration of justice is not impeded in any way.”

He also hinted that the governor would flag off the construction of a 19.4-kilometre road in Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs “under the RAMP project.”

The Commissioner attributed the superlative performance of Abia State, which came top in the just-released National Examination Council, NECO, results, to the ongoing reforms by the current administration in the education sector.

He said that the performance of the state would get better in the years ahead.

The Commissioner further hinted that the Governor would soon host the Abia contingent in the just-concluded paralympic for winning laurels at the competition.

Commissioner for Sports, Mr Ananaba Nwobilor, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Abia team in the Under 15 National Youth Games that held in Delta State where Abia won 31 medals including seven gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.

”Abia came 10th overall, the first of its kind since the history of the state,“ he added.

The Commissioner said the huge investments of the current administration in sports development, were beginning to yield fruit, disclosing that six young players discovered during the recent All Secondary School Games in the state are now in Hungary where they are being fully developed.

Similarly, he said that two Abia Angels players had gone to a club side in Europe on loan, adding that another star player (Nmesomachi), is currently on full scholarship in the United States of America where she is also playing soccer.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, who was also at the briefing, said the proposed court halls would be 21st-century compliant.

Kogi Assembly Calls For Immediate Sack Of EFCC Chair, Olukoyede:

The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, over his unprofessional handling of the case against the immediate past Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The legislators, during plenary in Lokoja, the state capital, on Monday, condemned what they described as the EFCC operatives’ unprovoked attack on the Kogi State Government Lodge, saying it was an attack on the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the entirety of the Kogi people.

The lawmakers accused the EFCC of assassination attempt on the former Governor and the incumbent, stressing that the persecution of the former governor had gone on for too long and must stop.

This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Akus Lawal, representing Ankpa 1 State Constituency. Hon Jacob Olawunmi, Ijumu State Constituency, seconded the motion.

Hon. Akus said the EFCC was out to himiliate and possibly kill the present and former governors. His colleagues all supported this.

Hon. Abu Jibril of Ajaokuta State specifically said the EFCC boss should be prosecuted for allegedly attempting to kill the governor. He called on the President to remove him immediately.

Governor’s Lodge and the firing of live rounds within a diplomatic residential zone further demonstrate that the EFCC has fully marinated in a sense of its own importance and power and now considers itself not only above the law but unanswerable to anyone or institution for its actions.”

“Because the EFCC Chairman has shown constantly, gross incompetence, the House has resolved that the President should relieve him of his appointment with immediate effect and replace him with a competent officer who will give Mr. President’s crusade for rule of law the needed effectiveness,” the lawmakers demanded in their resolution.

"I AM A YAHOO BOY AND I MET MY VICTIM THROUGH DATING WEBSITE CALLED CODED RUNS" - SUSPECTED RITUALIST MAKES SHOCKING CONFESSION

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has interviewed the suspected internet fraudster, Joseph Efe, who tied up a lady at Top View hotel, Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.

Parading the suspect on Friday, September 20, 2024, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu said Efe specialises in luring ladies on dating sites called 'coded runs' with the intent to robbing them of their phones and making withdrawal from his victims' bank accounts.

“The 30-year-old suspect, Joseph Efe, who is of Edo and Ondo origin, was arrested after coming out of the hotel premises allegedly to meet an accomplice, leaving his victim tied up in the hotel room,” Odumosu stated.

"The eagle eyed men of the NSCDC FCT Command who were at their sentry post, upon noticing Joseph's suspicious movement stopped him but instead of stopping, the suspect took to his heels after sighting our gallant officers who chased him, caught him and was led back to his hotel room, where the naked girl was found tied hands and legs with semi transparent adhesive tape (Cellotape).

"The victim, Olivia Ijeoma Chukwuemeka, who hails from Abia State was immediately rescued from the situation where she has been stripped naked, bound, hands, feet and mouth.

Olusola Odumosu said the suspect confessed to being a yahoo boy and that he has not been making money from the act so he decided to hunt for young girls on a dating site called 'coded runs' and that he operates between Port Harcourt, Lagos, Benin and Abuja.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect, Mr Efe is a serial fraudster (yahoo) and a thief, who specialises in luring ladies on dating sites into hotel rooms with the intent to rob them of their phones and make withdrawals from his victims bank account.

Investigation also reveals that the suspect arrived at Abuja from Lagos on the 17th September, 2024 and lodged into FAB by Top Rank Hotel adjacent to the old Federal Secretariat, Area1.

His first victim on arrival in Abuja was another lady he invited to his hotel room but could not succeed in his evil act because the lady was able to put up some resistance.

The noise attracted hotel staff at the said hotel, who came into his room. He succeeded in escaping from the scene due to poor handling of the situation by the hotel security.

Upon his escape from FAB Hotel, he then proceeded to Top View Hotel where he checked in at about 2:30am on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.

He invited his latest victim who arrived at about 9am. He threatened her, putting fear in her and holding her by the throat, the frightened lady succumbed to her abductor, she was then stripped and bound.

On checking the victim’s phone he discovered the lady had no money in her bank account, he then took the victim’s android phone and left the hotel room.

It was in the process of escaping from the hotel premises that his movement became suspicious, but in the process of trying to stop him, he took to his heels, he was chased and caught by NSCDC Operatives.

While addressing journalists, Dr. Odumosu said:

"let it be made abundantly clear that the video in circulation on this incident was not shot by the operatives of the NSCDC, we only became aware of its existence as it went viral on social media.

"Furthermore, as a Corps, we are duty bound and empowered to do due diligence before taking necessary steps towards prosecuting or handing over a suspect as the case may be to any relevant sister agency".

After preliminary investigation, the suspect and the victim will be handed over to the relevant agency for any further necessary action.”

The FCT Commandant also warned all hotel owners to be more vigilant, and that they should do more to protect their guests and hotel facilities as well as ensuring their premises are not used as a place to perpetuate crime.

The Commandant who described the way the victim was tied by her abductor as inhuman cautioned all young ladies involved in 'hook up' to desist from such acts that will endanger their lives.

Prof Sunday lamented over the current state of insecurity in the FCT call-out Senator representing FCT and the Minister of FCT Wike to focus on the purpose why they are elected and appointed to govern over FCT.

Prof Sunday makes this statement when addressing the issue of One-Chance which is rampant everywhere in the federal capital tertiary.

In his statement, he said the level of insecurity in FCT is alarming most especially the ones they call One-Chance and the Kidnapers.
I advised that the government should provide a customized and registered vehicle to address this situation and improve the security architecture of the state.

This is not the time to play politics but governance.

Just in the space of 3 weeks, a lady fell victim to One-Chance twice here in FCT and there are many cases of such within the federal capital.

This is not good for FCT he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it will not yield to the call of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to redeploy the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Anugbum Onuoha.

Recalls that Onuoha has been a subject of controversy over his relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and Wike have not been on good terms after Wike supported his second term bid when he defected to the PDP.

The governor and the national leadership of the PDP have expressed fears that Onuoha would influence the election to favor the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The PDP chairman in Edo State, Anthony Aziegbemhin, had submitted a formal protest letter to INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, demanding Onuoha’s immediate redeployment.

The letter read in part, “The ties between these two are too close to ignore as they share familiarities and are also close associates.

“The said Edo REC is a cousin to the Minister of the FCT, Mr. Wike. He also served as a former Commissioner and Special Adviser for Lands, Survey, and Housing to Mr Wike during his tenure as Rivers governor.”

Responding, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, emphatically said that the REC would not be redeployed, urging the PDP to focus on the process of the election rather than Onuoha.

“The REC for Edo State will not be redeployed. The governorship election will be conducted on September 21, 2024, in 4,519 polling units, not in the REC’s office.

“In the same manner, polling unit results will be declared by the respective Presiding Officers after the voting, ballot sorting, and counting processes, in the presence of accredited party agents and other stakeholders.”

Okonjo-Iweala to seek second term as WTO chief

Follow Kogi Leadership NewsLine for More News.

The World Trade Organisation Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has announced her intention to seek another four-year term as head of the trade organization.

She disclosed this in an interview with Reuters on Monday, stating that she hopes to complete “unfinished business” from her first mandate.

Okonjo-Iweala, who served as Nigeria’s finance minister, took office in March 2021 as the first female and African head of the 30-year-old trade body. Her current term expires on 31 August 2025.

She said, “I would like to be part of this chapter of the WTO story, and I stand ready to compete for the position,” Okonjo-Iweala said, citing a letter she plans to send to the trade body’s main decision-making body.

“For my second term, I intend to focus on delivering,” she added, mentioning that among her priorities is addressing “unfinished business.”

These priorities include finalizing a deal on ending fisheries subsidies, achieving a breakthrough in global agriculture negotiations, reforming the WTO’s struggling dispute system, and decarbonizing trade.

Officially, she has until the end of November to decide whether to apply again.

However, the African-led initiative started early, which began in July before U.S. President Joe Biden withdrew from the election campaign, and was seen as a move to secure her second term ahead of the U.S. vote in November.

Under WTO consensus rules, this would be possible if no other candidates come forward and all member states support her.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, was released minutes after his arrest.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Sowore was arrested on Sunday morning at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

He wrote, “I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA at MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me.

“This is not unexpected because I have always known that it is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming revolt.

“In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL stop tyranny by all means acceptable and necessary, by engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for 1 October and beyond.”

His flight left Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 am.

On Thursday, 12 September 2024, a DSS memo ordering the arrest of Sowore upon his arrival in Nigeria was leaked.

However, in a post via his official X handle, Sowore disclosed that he had been released by the Nigerian Immigration Service and his passport had been released to him after it was earlier confiscated.

He wrote, “I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me.”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to support Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in his political career anymore, accusing him of dishonesty.

Wike made the declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, September 13.

The former Rivers State governor expressed his disappointment with Governor Fubara, accusing him of spreading lies against him. Wike did not elaborate on the details of the accusations but made it clear that he would no longer back the current Rivers State leader.

In the same interview, Wike also made a striking statement ahead of the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21. He vowed not to support the incumbent Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo, who is being supported by Obaseki.

Wike referred to Governor Obaseki as "an ingrate" during the interview. His refusal to support Ighodalo suggests deepening divisions within the PDP ahead of the Edo State election.

Ibraheem Abdulhameed, a popular Islamic cleric and singer known by his stage name Labaeka, has officially resigned from his position as Special Assistant, Artiste to Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The resignation was confirmed in a letter dated September 12, 2023.

In his letter, Abdulhameed expressed his frustration with the role, stating that he has not been given a clear schedule of duties or the opportunity to perform his responsibilities.

The letter reads, “I am writing this letter with all sense of humility and gratitude for allowing me to serve as the Special Assistant, Artiste, in your cabinet.

“Having served in this capacity for 1 year and 7 months, I wish to respectfully tender my resignation.”
