APC Support Group Dumps Governor Sule, Declares Support For NNPP's Maidoya
***
A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa West of Nasarawa State has dumped Governor Abdullahi Sule and declared support for the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).

The group known as APC Progressive Youths made this known on Tuesday in a statement issued by its leader, Murtala Isa Alhassan following a crucial meeting held on Monday March 13 in Keffi.

Alhassan accused Governor Sule who is seeking a second term of marginalizing western zone in the implementation of capital projects.

“This situation is more pronounced in Karu, Kokona and Toto LGs where there is nothing tangible to show that there is any government presence,” he lamented.

The decision he added was as a result of careful consideration of the issues that are bedeviling the state and who is better poised to bring the state back on track.

Meanwhile, major opposition parties in the State are in talks to form alliance and wrest power from the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in the gubernatorial election scheduled for March 18.

Accept Old Naira Notes, Governor Sule Appeals To Nasarawa Residents
***
Governor Abdullahi Sule has appealed to residents of Nasarawa State to accept the old ₦‎500 and ₦‎1,000 banknotes, following directives from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He made the call shortly after a closed door meeting with bank managers at the Government House, Lafia on Tuesday.

According to him, the meeting was prompted by the statement issued by the CBN, directing banks to accept and disburse the old ₦‎500 and ₦‎1000 banknotes, in line with the judgment of the Supreme Court.

Governor Sule said his administration became worried following the loses suffered by farmers in the state, who couldn't transport their produce to the market because of the prevailing scarcity of cash.

On whether the banks operating in the state have sufficient old ₦‎500 and ₦‎1,000 banknotes to disburse, Governor Sule said it's too early to ascertain that, but that people should begin to accept the available old naira notes which are still legal tender till December this year.

“I am using this opportunity to call on the people, because people are not sure, they are thinking it's fake news.

“Now that we have called the banks and the banks have assured that the instruction came from the central bank, I am calling on our people in Nasarawa State to continue to accept the old notes because they are still legal tender and valid until December this year,” he stated.

The Governor added that he met with the bank managers in order to find out whether they have sufficient old ₦‎500 and ₦‎1,000 banknotes to circulate, in a bid to alleviate the suffering of the people who mostly spend the night at bank premises.

OPINION: Reasons Why Governor Sule Deserves To Be Re-Elected

By Ali Abare
***
It's generally agreed that politics and governance are about resource mobilization and equitable distribution. The essence of governance is not political vendetta or a desire to make a point, but to drive development for the benefit of all.

As far as the essence of governance and even politics is concerned, the people of Nasarawa State don't need to look any further, especially with Governor Abdullahi Sule at the helm of affairs of the state.

What are the actual resources that are available to Nasarawa State? Before 2019, Nasarawa State has always been categorized as a civil service state. Previous governments have been forced to limit their ability to deliver dividends of democracy within this derogatory label which connotes dependence and liability. It has always depended upon and look forward to the monthly federation allocation from Abuja. That has been the only resources that the entire development aspirations of the state rested upon. Even at that, recurrent expenditure, especially payment of workers salary, usually takes a huge chunk from this, leaving virtually nothing for physical development.

In the recent past, Nasarawa State was ranked 33rd out of the 36 states of the country in terms of the federation allocation, being among the states receiving the least from the federal government. This has constituted a stumbling block towards meeting the development aspirations of the state.

Before his assumption of office in 2019, Governor Sule, aware of the bleak economic fortune of the state, commissioned a world class consultancy firm to undertake a comprehensive review of the economy of the state, its potentials, challenges and how these can be effectively addressed. The outcome of this endeavour, led to the berthing of the Nasarawa State Development Strategy (NEDS), a document that is serving as a blueprint for the Engineer Sule administration, for a new Nasarawa State

“You see when it comes to the state elections, sometimes it changes from the National Assembly elections.

“Even the turn out of the elections what we are expecting to see this time around will be double of the past elections because people actually prefer to come out more in the state elections because it is more closer to them than the national elections.

“I assured you we have already done our home work. SDP being a new party in Nasarawa State has already proven that people could identify with it and cast votes for the party.

“And I am not new to the system, I was candidate in 2019 with the APM and today all of us decided to move to SDP. That is to say the wind of power has already been blown. I assure you we will take over Nasarawa.” -Mustapha

Support Groups Threatens To Drag Maidoya To Court If He Steps Down For Any Candidate
***
The gubernatorial candidate of the opposition New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Yakubu Maidoya has been threatened with lawsuit if he steps down for any opponent as pressure continue to mounts.

Two grassroots support groups, the Maidoya Door-To-Door Campaign Team and Nasara Youth Development Association, gave the warning on Wednesday in a joint statement signed by its Convener, Shammasu Musa Dantsoho.

Dantsoho said they see the opposition candidate as the last hope to rescue Nasarawa State from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We don't want a religious bigot running the affairs of the state anymore, we want a true Democrat.

“We see the future of better Nasarawa State on your hands and we also see your readiness to rebuild the youths and women in order to make our State better.

“We want free and compulsory basic education in the State,” the statement reads further.

It would recall that some key stakeholders had recently approached the opposition candidate to step down for Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is seeking second term.

Similarly, rumours making the rounds on social media claimed he had stepped down for Governor Sule.

Reacting however, Maidoya debunked the claim as fake news and expressed confidence of emerging as Nasarawa State’s next governor.

APC Has Failed In Demonstrating Good Governance, Integrity -NNPP
***
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) says its gubernatorial candidate, Abdullahi Maidoya, remains the party flag-bearer in Nasarawa State.

The Director-General of the NNPP Campaign Council, Barrister Innocent Lagi, stated this during a press conference in Lafia, the state capital.

“I want to use this medium to inform our people that Abdullahi Maidoya Yakubu is still in the race come March 11 governorship election.

“It appears to us that the ruling party and its candidate are afraid of our candidate,” he stated.

He advised people of the state to disregard insinuations on the social media and rumours making the rounds that the NNPP gubernatorial candidate had stepped down for Governor Sule, who is seeking a re-election, stressing that story was fake.

He explained that Maidoya and the party were not in negotiations with the APC governorship candidate, adding that the NNPP was not interested in any agreement, as the party is fully ready to go to the polls on Saturday.

Barrister Lagi, however, advised party supporters and the public to come out en masse to vote for Abdullahi Yakubu Maidoya, saying that the party gubernatorial candidate is ready to serve the state better for the peace and unity of the different ethnic nationalities.

“Maidoya is competent enough to manage the affairs of the state, if elected.

“The APC has failed in demonstrating good governance and integrity,” he added.

Lagi further urged the people of the state not to allow ethnic and religious sentiments to jeopardize the peace and unity that has existed among different ethnic groups in the state.
