1. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, approved a steering committee to oversee the process of the newly signed Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

2. Despite the dusk to dawn curfew imposed in Bassa LGA of Plateau State, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen Wednesday morning, launched an attack on Chando-Zirechi (Tafi-Gana) of Miango District of the LGA, killing five people in the incident. Secretary-General of the Irigwe Development Association, Comrade Danjuma Dickson Auta confirmed the incident to newsmen.

3. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday revealed that he had been managing diabetes for the past 35 years. Obasanjo lamented that many of his friends have died of diabetes because they were unable to manage the disease. He spoke on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the Ogun State Diabetes Youth Development Camp held in Abeokuta.

4. The United States says communication lines with the Taliban government in Afghanistan remain open. US Defence Secretary, Lloyd Austin, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday.

5. The United Arab Emirates has approved visa-on-arrival for passport holders from 70 countries excluding Nigeria. This was contained in an update on the official websites of Etihad and Emirates on Wednesday.

6. Palpable fear gripped the ancient town of Apomu in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State on Wednesday after seven family members died mysteriously. The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, said an autopsy would be conducted on the remains of the deceased to ascertain the cause.

7. Bandits have abducted unspecified number of Islamiyya school pupils in Sakkai village, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The state Police spokesman in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah,

RESUMPTION OF JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL 3 (JSS III) STUDENTS FOR THE 2021 NECO BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (NECO BECE)

1. The Kaduna State Ministry of Education has approved the resumption of JSS III students who are scheduled to write the 2021 National Examination Council Basic Education Certificate Examination (NECO BECE). The exams will be conducted from Monday, 23rd August, 2021 to Monday, 6th September, 2021.
2. Secondary schools are hereby directed to resume operations ONLY for JSS III students with effect from Wednesday 18th August 2021 and to inform the students to appear in m***i.
3. Schools are expected to strictly comply with the above directives.
