The Nigerian Red Cross Society of Nigeria (NRCS), Kano branch, has constructed zebra crossings across the state capital to ensure safety on the roads.

The NRCS Branch Secretary, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, who disclosed this on Thursday in Kano, said it became necessary for transporters and other road users.

He said the zebra crossings, which were constructed at strategic places like hospitals, schools and market areas, would assist motorists to reduce speed on the roads.

The Kano State Government has inaugurated a special task force committee on the supply of potable water to the people of the state.

The Federal Government has announced that the Lagos-Kano narrow gauge rail line is poised to commence freight services.

This revelation came to light during the visit of the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, to the project site in Kano State on Thursday.

The contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, disclosed that the line had been successfully linked to the Zawaciki Dala Dry Port in Kano, a pivotal commercial centre in the state.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle visited Nigeria on Friday as part of his promotion of the Invictus Games, the sporting event he founded for wounded military veterans.

The couple arrived Friday in the Nigerian capital Abuja where they visited a school to open an event on mental health for students there.

A soldier, Lance Cpl. Mubarak Yakubu, has been arrested with 756 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and four 36 hand grenades, ingeniously concealed in a small bag of rice in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Bandits on Thursday night invaded the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Okene in Kogi State and abducted some students.

An eyewitness account indicated that the bandits swooped on the university around 9pm while the students were reading for their upcoming exams.

The source said that the bandits came in through the bush, went into three lecture halls and began to shoot into the air to scare the students.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has threatened a massive protest that will shut down the Nigerian economy should the Federal Government fail to cancel the controversial cybersecurity levy recently introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The TUC in a statement signed by its President, Festus Osifo, on Wednesday, slammed the directive by the CBN to banks imposing a 0.5 per cent cybersecurity levy on almost all electronic transactions.

This is after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had heavily criticised the levy which it described as another burden on Nigerians.

Adamawa State government has taken drastic measures in response to a deadly measles outbreak that has claimed the lives of 42 children in the region. Public and private schools have been ordered to close indefinitely, according to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Aisha Umar, in Yola on Monday.

The closure aims to curb the spread of the disease and facilitate mass vaccination efforts by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) targeting vulnerable age groups. The Ministry has set a new resumption date for schools on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Property worth million of naira destroyed as fire outbreak gutted the Mundubawa Kano residence of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.

Spokesman of Kano Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi who confirmed the inferno disclosed that the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday evening.

Although, the spokesman said men of the service were able to put off the fire, the cause of the incident is still sketchy.

Also revealing the incident to journalists Media Adviser to the former Senator, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule said that the fire started from the inner kitchen of the House which was at the ground floor of the multi-million naira mansion.

The family of a young man, Toheeb Eniasa, has been thrown into mourning after he was shot at a petrol station belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited at Obalende in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

The incident, our correspondent learnt, happened late Wednesday and has left residents in the area in fear.

The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student of the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, who was allegedly drugged to death on his birthday by his friend on Thursday.

The deceased identified as Chinedu Hope was lured by his friend, Dan, after much persuasion to a hideout operated by a drug baron, simply known as Yoko in Umuodudu Ibeku.
