Sometimes I laugh when I hear people arguing back and forth over fuel subsidy removal.
The truth is, those systematically benefitting from the scammous adventure of subsidy will always fight back to retain the continuous flow of their pipe of fraud. Unfortunately, many of our present political gladiators had in the past fanned and empowered protests to discredit policies aimed at stopping the scammous fuel subsidy irony. It is not a surprise anymore to see some warming of engines of protest against removal of fuel subsidy. Permit me to also say that our 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu can not be exernorated from the wagon of protests against fuel subsidy removal. We do not have politicians with sincerity of purpose. What we have are politicians of personal purpose against national purpose. It was in this same country when certain people including our past and present Presidents staged protests against fuel subsidy removal. Somebody even said fuel subsidy was a "fraud". But when he assumed office as President, the narrative and goal post changed. Until we have patriotic politicians with sincerity of purpose, Nigeria will continue to drive round a circle without practical progress. God forbid !
My opinion therefore, is to reject reversal of fuel subsidy while the federal government should quickly rehabilitate our refineries as well as introducing palliative measures to cushion the effects of the biting realities. And this should be done in all the 36 states and FCT... ABIODUN KOMOLAFE

Kperogi Describes Nigerian Supreme Court Justices As ‘Rotten Gaggle Of Useless, Purchasable Judicial Bandits’
ThenigerialawyerFeb 6, 2023Read original

A social critic and scholar, Prof Farooq Kperogi, has described the judgement of the Apex court in the case between the Senate president, Ahmed Lawan and Machina, rotten gaggle of useless and purchable judicial bandit.

Farooq, made this remark on Monday, while reacting to the judgement of the Supreme Court affirming Ahmed Lawan, as the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Yobe north.

In his statement, Prof, said he was awoken on this side of the world by news of the reversal by the Nigerian Supreme Court of Senate Pres. Ahmed Lawan’s primary election loss.

“I was already mentally prepared for it after the same Supreme Court affirmed

“Godwin Akpabio’s fraudulent primary win a few days ago. It’s a well-planned judicial choreography.

“The Nigerian Supreme Court is straight-up the most hopeless Supreme Court in the history of the world’s supreme courts.

“The same Court violated common sense and the will of voters and gave us a “Supreme Court governor” in Imo State who never even pretended to have won an election.

“Now it has given Yobe and Akwa Ibom states “Supreme Court senate candidates” in Lawan and Akpabio.

“Lawan was too busy trying to be APC’s presidential candidate to even participate in the senate primaries in Yobe and unsuccessfully begged Machina to stand down for him, but the Supreme Court just declared him the winner of a contest he didn’t participate in anyway. It’s a blatant case of “justice” for sale.

“Nigeria’s Supreme Court is, without a doubt, a rotten gaggle of useless, purchasable judicial bandits.

“The highest bidder gets their judgement. And they’re not even hiding this.

“Against the judicial oaths they swore, they openly cavort with politicians whose cases they sit in judgement over.

“They are greedy, grasping, unprincipled curmudgeons who need money, & anybody who gives them the most money gets the most favorable judgment.

“I think it’s Akpabio who popularized d saying that whatever money cannot do in Nigeria more money can do it. He knows Nigeria really well.”

ANOTHER WAHALA.

FUEL MARKETERS PLANS SHUTDOWN ON MONDAY.

Independent marketers of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, are getting set to shut down operations beginning from Monday once the government starts the enforcement of N195/litre pump price.

It was gathered on Saturday that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, security agencies and the downstream regulator had all agreed that petrol be sold at N195/litre.

Oil marketers said the agreement was reached at a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, as participants resolved that beginning from Monday, February 6, 2023, the pump price of petrol should not exceed N195/litre, a development which dealers, particularly independent marketers, described as tough due to the high ex-depot price of the commodity.

They told our correspondent that to avoid having their outlets sanctioned, many filling stations operated by independent marketers would be shut from Monday as it made no business sense to sell a product lower than the cost price.

GUN MEN KILL JUDGE IN THE COURT.

Gunmen on Thursday murdered Nnaemeka Ugboma, the chairman of Ejemekwuru Customary Court in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

He was killed by gunmen who operated in motorcycles, while presiding a court session, our correspondent was told by close sources.

The killing of the jurist who our correspondent gathered hailed from Nnebukwu community in Oguta LGA caused panic in Ejemekwuru community as natives and residents alike fled their homes.

One of the sources said,” The jurist was a law graduate of 1991 set. He was killed in his court while sitting. His killers came with motorcycles. They came into the court, dragged him out and shot him dead and drove off.

“His co**se was there as people in court fled. The whole thing is confusing because nobody knew any reason while they killed him. He was from Nnebukwu community in Oguta LGA here.”

BREAKING:

FG OPENS SECOND NIGER BRIDGE.

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Thursday temporarily opened the Second Niger Bridge to motorists.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the Bridge would be open for use for one month during the Yuletide.

It was opened at exactly 9:50am today (Thursday).

While noting that part of the money used in constructing the bridge was from looted funds recovered mostly from the United States of America (USA), President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the opening of the popular bridge by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), said the reason the overpass was constructed was to alleviate poverty occasioned by the waste of man-hour resulting from gridlock on the old first second bridge.

“The President will be happy to see users drive safely and responsibly while using this road especially during this Christmas and New Year seasons.

“He wishes you a merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” Fashola said.

The first driver to pass through the bridge, Sunday Emem, expressed his delight at the development.

“I feel so happy, at least it will reduce the hold-up.

“We’ve stayed over one hour at the other bridge,” he said.

DONT BUY TRANSFORMER, POLE, WIRE...NERC

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), on Thursday, maintained that it is the responsibility of electricity distribution companies to provide meters, transformers, poles, wires and other things needed for electricity supply to consumers.
Lifestyle Nigeria reports that NERC’s Commissioner-in-charge of Consumers Affairs, Aisha Mahmud stated this during a three-day NERC/Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Customer Complaint Resolution Meeting, noting that a lot of consumers in Nigeria are not aware of their rights.

“It is not the responsibility of the consumers to buy meters, poles or any assets for the DisCos (distribution companies) because we have already provided for that in the tariff of the utilities.

“But under any circumstances that you have to purchase these items and you cannot wait for the DisCos to make that investment, we have made provision for that under our ‘investment regulation’,” Mahmud said.

She noted that the commission will continue to educate consumers on their responsibilities and obligations, adding that there’s a regulation, and based on that, if a consumer has to purchase a transformer, it has to be done through an agreement.

She said: “The agreement should contain a dispute resolution clause and all other items that are expected of a standard agreement. What we expect from the DisCos is to use their Internally Generated Revenue to buy those assets or rather use shareholders’ investment or borrow from banks to purchase the assets.”

According to her, it’s NERC’s responsibility to educate customers on their rights and obligations and all they are supposed to know about the electricity market.
Managing Director of AEDC, Adeoye Fadeyibi, said the company will do everything possible to meet the demands of consumers.

Represented by the Head, Regulatory and Government Relation of the AEDC, Olajumoke Delonia, Fadeyibi said the idea of the forum was to address customers’ complaints and commended NERC for the initiative.
