Four Nuns Kidnapped in Southern Nigeria
08/22/2022 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Yesterday, four nuns were abducted while traveling on a highway in southeast Nigeria. The sisters were on their way to Sunday mass when a group of unidentified gunmen stopped their vehicle and kidnapped them.

While Nigeria has seen high numbers of kidnappings, they mostly occur in the northern regions of the country. This recent incident marks a concerning trend of the violence moving further south.

The convent the nuns belong to released the details of their abduction this morning and is urging the international community to pray for their safe return. In a statement, the convent said, “We implore for intense prayer for their quick and safe release.”

This is the latest of many incidents involving the abduction or murder of Christian religious leaders in Nigeria this year. In July, ICC reported on the abduction of two priests in the northern state of Kaduna. ICC also reported on two more priests that were kidnapped in May of this year.

Please pray for the safe return of the nuns who were abducted as well as for protection of church leaders in Nigeria.

Christians Make Up 90% of Islamabad’s Sanitation Workers; But That’s Not the Whole Story
08/23/2022 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) – A recent article brought attention to the fact that 90% of Islamabad’s street cleaners are Christian. These workers receive little to no salary, often waiting between weeks and months for a paycheck. Christians and other religious minorities are exclusively targeted for positions like these in Pakistan. In fact, when recruiting for these types of positions, many employers will list in a job positing that the positions are for ‘non-Muslims only,’ as the jobs are considered to be below the stature of a Muslim to perform.

Furthermore, Christians are often required to work in dangerous conditions without proper safety mechanisms or equipment. One example comes from Pakistan’s sewage workers, an industry heavily comprised of Christian workers who are required to go deep into the ground and unclog the sewer system without necessary equipment. As a result, the deadly gasses formed in the sewers often kill the workers. The Pakistan government will usually settle with the worker’s family, but only at a very modest financial settlement that barely covers funeral costs.

Matias Perttula, Director of Advocacy at International Christian Concern said, “Christians and religious minorities in Pakistan live in a reality marked by constant fear, abuse, discrimination, and bigotry from the majority Muslim community. Christian sanitation workers are often cheated out of their pay, if they are even paid, and face discriminatory employment practices throughout the industry. They’re forced to use different drinking fountains from Muslims among other bigoted actions.”

The religious bigotry embedded in both Pakistan’s government and civil society manifests throughout the social fabric in various forms. Another example of Pakistan’s poor treatment of Christians and other religious minorities is the country’s notorious blasphemy law. Christians are living under a constant state of fear, as the law carries at its most extreme a mandatory death penalty or life in prison. Even a mere accusation of blasphemy from a Muslim against a Christian has encouraged mob violence, resulting in the public lynching of the accused.

Pakistan has much progress to make in order to achieve a more harmonious religious society with equal treatment of all religious minorities. Despite what the government of Pakistan might say publicly, the reality of life for religious minorities is contrary to the picture of ‘religious harmony’ depicted by the government of Pakistan.

CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IN NIGERIA RAISED ALARM ON FARM DESTRUCTION BY MUSLIM TRIBESMEN.
Lawrence Zongo Has No Agenda

Leaders of a Christian community in Plateau State demand 500 million nairas on-farm destruction by Fulani militants. The leader called on Nigeria’s authority to compensate them and ensure Justice at all levels.

Since last year Fulani militants killed Irigwe Christians, ICC reported the killings and burning of houses and churches last year and again “Christians were killed, houses burnt and farms-crops worth 500 million naira were destroyed by the militias” Said Irigwe Christian Leader.

The National President of Irigwe Development Association (IDA) Prince Robert Ashi Dodo during a Press Conference in Jos on 23/3/2022, said the Rigwe nation has been hugely and largely hit by the Fulani Militia in 2021 and early 2022 which culminated in the several lost of lives, farm crops and property worth countless amounts.

Dodo expressed sadness and frown at the indiscriminate grazing and display of rascality by the Fulani Militant in their land.
“For the record, since February they have destroyed and damaged several dry season farm crops ranging from cabbage, tomatoes, pepper, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, green beans, piece as well as looted water pump machines and other farming implements in many villages amounted to the tun of over five hundred million naira”.

“We call on the operation safe Haven Plateau state to as a matter of utmost importance, stand by their earlier pronouncement that all herders in Irigwe land be withdrawn and desist from grazing around, and ensure that the enforcement is done to the latter.”

Dodo Mentioned communities that Fulani destroyed their farms crops. “Some of the villages these destructions have taken place are Chando-Zrreci, Kpatenvie, Chuvo, Kpara, Ncha, Hukke, Renwienku, Nzharuvo, Nzhwerenvi, Nkienwhie, Duh, Nggbra-Zongo, Mai-yanga, Gbowo, Tegbe, Te'egbe, Kperie, Rikwe-Chongu, Hwrra, Ariri, Zogu”

The Regional Manager of ICC visited Nigeria in February 2022 saw how Fulani Militant grazing their cattle on Christian farms. “The militant want Christians to die of hunger” said Ezekiel Bini the Irigwe Youth Christian Leader

Bini said Nigeria authority keeping silent not to compensate them is because they are Christians. The government want Muslims to take over their land for grazing, he pleaded with Christians in the diaspora to pray for them and support them not to die of hunger. He pleaded with President Joe Biden to come to the aid of Christians in Nigeria suffering persecution and other human rights violations. He want the American government to look into Nigeria issues just like Ukraine.

1. Amnesty International Nigeria condemns the gruesome killings of 25 villagers and destruction of their property by armed men suspected to be herders on Sunday 20 March 2022 at Maraba, Adan and Agban Gida communities all in Kagoro village, Kaura local government area of Kaduna state.

2. Despite the intervention of security officers, the attack in Kagoro lasted for more than two hours, in 3 communities displacing hundreds of households.

3. The Nigerian government has a responsibility to promote and protect human rights, including the right to life, and a duty to protect civilians from attacks by taking effective measures to prevent and deter attacks on civilians.

4. The government must as a matter of urgency investigate the attack in Kagoro and bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure families and other victims are adequately compensated.

5. Brutal attacks on rural communities in many parts of Kaduna state are becoming rampant and frequent. This is unacceptable. The government must take more concrete steps steps to protect lives and property across Kaduna state.
