SWAN: NORTH WEST ZONE CONGRATULATES GOV. ABBA KABIR YUSUF OF KANO STATE OVER VICTORY AT APEX COURT

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN has congratulated the Governor of Kano state, His Excellency, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam and the people of Kano state over the Supreme court judgement reaffirming the victory of the Governor in the last Governorship election in the state.

In a communication to SMN, the SWAN Vice President North West, Muhammad Mansour Ibrahim said the judgement was in good interest of the state noting that the victory at the apex court is a confirmation that the people of Kano has spoken in line with their mandate at the poll.

The Association uses this opportunity to also encourage the Governor to continue with the People's oriented programmes and policies, tailoring towards improving the quality of lives of the citizens especially in the Sports industry, Security, Education, commerce, Health, Urban and Rural Infrastructure, Agriculture, Environment amongst others. Appealing to the people of Kano state, the SWAN Vice President North West said the people of Kano irrespective of political inclination should extend their hands of fellowship to the leader "KANAWA" to ensure the best is gotten to the common man, while we are also urging the Governor to engage in reconciliation process across ranks with a view to achieving meaningful growth and development.

NORTH IBVIE EXTOLS OGHIEAGA, DESCRIBES HIM AS ROLE MODEL, BLESSING TO IBVIE

When a ruler possesses self-awareness, garners credibility and respect, focuses on relationship-building for community development and exhibits humility, it attracts healthy recognition and progress for his community.

This assertion dominated discussions among Ibvie people in Etsako East LGA of Edo state while extolling the Oghieaga of Three Ibvie, HRH Mallam Ali D. Sulayman on his return from the visit to President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in the state House.

Describing the traditional ruler as a God sent to the Three-Ibvie, the people of North Ibvie expressed gratitude to Almighty God for Mallam Ali Sulayman being the Oghieaga of Three Ibvie, noting that he is a blessing to the entire Ibvie.

In a chat with SMN crew, an Ibvie born Mechanical Engineer, Yunus Ahmad Ayemomoh, while expressing satisfaction and confidence for the Oghieaga said, the Oghieaga is a pride and a role model to Ibvie people noting that since his emergence as the Oghieaga of the Three Ibvie in North Ibvie, the clan has witnessed tremendous progress and peace among people of North Ibvie.

The Oghieaga has given North Ibvie a new face of recognition and he has also changed the narration of Ibvie to a good news. Under his reign, with prayers, faith and determination, God blessed the clan with the first Minister from Edo North Senatorial District, in person of Engr Abubakar Momoh. " Engr Yunus said".

It could be recalled the Oghieaga together with South-South monarchs recently visited President Tinubu to solicit Federal Government intervention on the deplorable State of Roads and infrastructure in the South south.

INITIATION INTO MANHOOD: AGUNU FAMILY REINSTATES STAND ON MEMBERS PARTICIPATION, SAYS DEFAULTERS OF RITES ARE STILL DECLARED WANTED

The family of Agunu in Etsako West LGA of Edo state Nigeria have released another order warning members of their family to always participate in the initiation into manhood in their community, noting that those who refused to participate and ran away for hideout in other places will face severe punishment on their return to the community for disobeying the family.

In a statement made available to SMN signed by Mr Amiomode Agunu on behalf of the family said, the family will punish any member who refused to participate in the community's manhood ceremony adding that those who refused to participate in the past exercise and left the community for hideout elsewhere, will face the wrath of the family whenever they return.

Information has reached us very recently as a family that some members of our family particularly the male folk who refused to participate in the initiation into manhood in the community, have found settlement in Europe and other parts of the world. I assure you that their long stay away from home will not help them. They will be forgiven and freed only when they come down to obey the mandate of the family or face the opposite. "Mr Agunu said".

Emphasizing the penalty awaiting the family members who refused to partake in the initiation into Manhood ceremony, Mr Amiomode Agunu added that those who disobeyed the family, refused to participate in the manhood ceremony and ran away, will be crucified on their return back home.

Edo Commends NAHCON, Extends Deadline For 2024 Hajj Payment

Edo State has expressed appreciation to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and declared the extension of the payment deadline for the 2024 Hajj to January 31 as a resounding success.

This was contained in a message to the Muslims in the state by the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua while addressing some group in his office in Benin City recently.

Commending NAHCON for their collaborative efforts, the Chairman highlighted the significance of this extension, emphasizing its positive impact on the intending pilgrims in Edo State.

He noted that the decision to extend the deadline was aimed at accommodating the diverse needs of individuals preparing for the pilgrimage, ensuring a more inclusive and accessible process.

According to him, "the success of this initiative lies in its ability to provide aspiring pilgrims with additional time to complete their financial obligations without unnecessary pressure. Before this extension, there was pressure from our intending pilgrims. They were worried"

"We are very happy with the development. I can tell you that it was a success because, we have recorded an appreciable progress in the payment and preparation for the journey"

"The collaborative approach between the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board and NAHCON exemplifies effective coordination in addressing the needs of the Muslim community in this state" Oyarekhua noted.

As the deadline now extends to January 31, many intending pilgrims in Edo State have expressed relief and gratitude for the considerate decision, allowing them ample time to complete their payments and secure their places for the sacred Hajj journey in 2024. This positive outcome reinforces the commitment of both local and national entities to ensuring a seamless and inclusive pilgrimage experience for all participants.

EMEGG JOINS SCSN TO MEET PRESIDENT TINUBU, SENDS SIGNALS AHEAD EDO PRIMARY ELECTION

As political parties in Edo state increased their drive to have a sellable candidate for the Gubernatorial election, the Edo Muslim for Equity and Good Governance, EMEGG joined the Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, SCSN to meet with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

Addressing SMN crew in Abuja shortly after the visit to the President at the State House, the General Coordinator, EMEGG, Sheikh Sirajudeen Muhammad said the outcome of the visit to the President is a signal of hope for EMEGG in actualizing her mandate in Edo state.

Sheikh Sirajudeen while expressing concern over the way Muslims are marginalized in Edo state governance said, it is another era for political participation wherein Muslims are expected to be recognized after the whole exercise.

Muslims in Edo state have always participated productively in Edo state elections but when it is time to reward participation, we are rendered inconsequential. "The EMEGG Coordinator lamented."

We always blow our trumpet loud and clear agitating for a Muslim Governor or Deputy Governor in Edo state. We also recommended that in event of unavoidable challenges to have a Muslim as Governor or Deputy Governor, Muslims should be considered for other notable appointments. This is to prove our worth in recognition of Islam and Muslims in Edo state. " The EMEGG Boss stated."

In the same vein, Sheikh Sirajudeen Muhammad sent signals to all the political parties in the state to consider Muslim-Christian Ticket, Christian-Muslim Ticket or appoint Muslims in key positions in the governance of the state. "The EMEGG Coordinator said"

PRESIDENT TINUBU RECEIVES SCSN IN STATE HOUSE, ASSURES COUNCIL, MUSLIMS OF INCLUSIVE GOVERNMENT

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, in a close door meeting, received members of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, SCSN in state House Abuja.

The visit according to a source close to SMN crew in Abuja, revealed that President Tinubu received SCSN in appreciation of the 2-Day National Conference held recently in Abuja, the nation's capital.

Speaking at the visit, the President Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyatullah, thanked the President for the opportunity to receive SCSN. Sheikh Hadiyatullah further thanked the President for honouring the Council's invitation to attend the 2-Day National Conference held recently at the National Mosque, Abuja.

Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyatullah said that the presence of the President is a show of love for SCSN and the entirety of Muslims in Nigeria. We were most honored for your response to our invitation and we own you a duty to support you with prayers. "The SCSN Boss said".

On his part, the President saluted the President and members of SCSN for their relentless efforts to coordinating the affairs of Muslims in Nigeria. He said SCSN has proven herself beyond doubt as a formidable Islamic body with trust and confidence.

EMEGG ATTENDS SCSN CONFERENCE , COMMENDS COUNCIL, ADVOCATES UNITY AMONG MUSLIM UMMAH

The Edo Muslims for Equity and Good Governance, EMEGG has joined other Muslims across the country to attend a 2-Day National Conference organized by the Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, SCSN.

Speaking at the event, the General Coordinator, EMEGG, Sheikh Sirajudeen Muhammad thanked the SCSN for the resourceful event noting that the Conference has further justified the capacity of SCSN to bringing together, Muslims in Nigeria for the recognition and wellbeing of Muslims across the country.

Sheikh Sirajudeen added that the idea to have SCSN has further strengthened the unity of Muslims in Nigeria irrespective of their origin, status and knowledge. He therefore appealed to Muslims across the country to remain united and steadfast for the sake of Islam. He forbids them to eschew premodern cleavages and bitterness that may have existed among Muslims in the past so that together with a united voice, Islam will be recognized and Muslims will be accorded their rights.

In another development, the EMEGG Boss while reaffirming support for President Tinubu's administration appealed to Nigerians especially the Muslims to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with prayers noting that the President will not allow the efforts of Nigeria Muslims to be in vein. Sheikh Sirajudeen said Muslims who fought to ensure the success of Muslim-Muslim Ticket will certainly not be left out.

The 2-Day Conference was held in National Mosque, Abuja on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th January 2024 on the theme, "Matters Arising from 2023 Election & Associated Socio-Economic Challenges".

SCSN HOLDS CONFERENCE, EXPRESSES CONCERN FOR NIGERIA MUSLIMS, CHIDES PSEUDO-SCHOLARS

The Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, SCSN is holding a 2-Day National Conference in Abuja on the theme, "Matters Arising from 2023 Election & Associated Socio-Economic Challenges".

In the ongoing Conference, the SCSN expressed worry over undue marginalization of Muslims in Nigeria in the area of Muslim recognition and involvement in the present administration of President Ahmad Bola Tinubu.

The Council therefore appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the role of SCSN and Muslims in the last Presidential election where the duo united for victory of the President.

No doubt, the present government bathed with the Muslim-Muslim Ticket is a salvation for Nigerians. So, the SCSN and Muslims should be duly recognized and actively involved in the governance of this nation as compensation for a work well done. "SCSN posited"

In another development, the Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria chid some Muslims in the country who regarded themselves as Scholars, describing them as pseudo-scholars who lack the basic requirements of a true Muslim scholar.

Discussing Scholarly Etiquette in Islam: A Reflection, the presenter, Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar at the Conference condemned the actions of some Muslims who paraded themselves as Scholars. Dr Bashir therefore opined that for a Muslim to be a scholar, he must be tested to have a sound Islamic knowledge lanced with sincerity among other qualities of note.

BABA CHILDREN: FAMILY TO UNVEIL FOUNDATION, CHILDREN, FAMILY MEMBERS, OTHERS STAGE PRAYERS ON ANNIVERSARY

It was a wonderful day to remember as a Jattu born patriarch, Late Pa John K. Aliu popularly known as "Baba Children" who died 11th January, 2012 was celebrated by his children and members of his community.

Marking the death anniversary of Late Baba Children in Jattu-Uzairue, Edo state, the family of the patriarchal hero and well wishers, thronged out to stage memorial prayer in honour of Late Pa John K. Aliu who was described as an irreplaceable father.

In a chat with SMN crew recently on the occasion of 12th anniversary of Baba Children, Mr Aliu David who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked those who joined in the prayer, noting that the continuing love for their late father is a true reflection of who he was when he was alive. Mr David said that their late father is indeed Baba Children!

In another development, Mr David opined that the family will soon unveil Baba Children Foundation where the legacies of their father will linger in the minds of the people. Our father was for all irrespective of age, status, religion or origin. If he was still alive, he would have owned a foundation to compliment his humanitarian gestures for people. So, we owe him an obligation to do so in his memory. "Mr David said".

Baba Children is an Iyano born philanthropist who lived for the people, cared for the people and loved all. He was a legend with reputable marks of honour. He died but his memories remain fresh in the minds of all.

PEACE, PROGRESS GREET IYUKU AS COMMUNITY HEAD CELEBRATED AMIDST PRAISES

It was a gathering of
crème de la crème and a combination of different professions from all walks of live who gathered to celebrate the coronation of the Community Head of Iyuku, Chief Bawalkson Zekeriyahu Ilegieunu.

The historic celebration which brought together the Iyuku sons and daughters at home and in diaspora marked a launching of a new Palace for the "Okwi-Iyukugbe of Iyuku, Chief Bawalkson Zekeriyahu Ilegieuno.

The celebration of the turbaning of Chief Bawalkson Zekeriyahu Ilegieunu, as Community Head of Iyuku by HRH, Alhaji Kadiri Imonikhe Omogbai, the Ogieneni of Uzairue kingdom has been adjudged as a peace path to unite Iyuku and to have a progressive community.

The Deputy Governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu who was the Chairman of the occasion congratulated Chief B.Z Ilegieuno, the Adorolo II of Iyuku Community and emphasized unity in the community noting that the best way to have a progressive and attractive Iyuku, is to institute and embrace peace.

In a chat with SMN crew at the ceremony while lauding the presence of dignitaries, the commitment of Iyuku sons and daughters world wide, the Ogieneni-In-Council and above all, the Ogieneni of Uzairue for his leadership and wisdom in ruling over the affairs of Uzairue kingdom, Chief Bawalkson confessed that he will make a difference as the new Community Head of Iyuku.

Chief Bawalkson while commending the Ogieneni of Uzairue for appointing him as the Community Head of Iyuku said, his choice is a reflection of love the Ogieneni has for Iyuku Community. Chief B.Z Ilegieuno therefore assured the Ogieneni and the people of Iyuku that his reign as the Community Head of Iyuku will herald peace and progress in Iyuku. He also assured them that his appointment will change the narration of Iyuku for the best interest of the community and Uzairue at large.

My predecessors have done their part, we salute them and wish them a rest, Allah has made me through the Ogieneni of Uzairue with the unwavering support of Iyuku community to succeed the throne of leadership of Iyuku, I promise to make good and acceptable history that will bring about the Iyuku of our collective dream. Edo Extends 2024 Deadline For Hajj Payment To January 31st--Chairman

Edo State has officially prolonged the deadline for payment of the 2024 Hajj fare to January 31, 2024, a decision validated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

This crucial update was disclosed by the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua in a chat with some stakeholders and intending pilgrims in Benin City recently.

According to him, the extension of the payment deadline signifies the state's commitment to accommodating aspiring pilgrims, providing them with an extended timeframe to fulfill their financial obligations for the revered Hajj pilgrimage.

He added that the endorsement from NAHCON underscores the collaborative efforts between states and national bodies in ensuring a more inclusive and supportive approach for intending pilgrims.

He said:"We are happy to inform you that the deadline for payment of 2024 Hajj fare which was earlier slated for December 31 2023 has been extended to January 31 2024. We are happy for this development. The announcement of the extended deadline to January 31 by NAHCON grants additional leeway to individuals in Edo State, enabling them to finalize their payments and secure their participation in the upcoming 2024 Hajj"

"This development is poised to alleviate any constraints and enable a more streamlined process for interested participants in the Hajj"

"It's important to remind us that the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has slated 26th of February as the end of payments into IBAN account. That means, we have barely a month to finalize all payments"

"We are also expecting NAHCON to announce the final Hajj fare within this extension period " Oyarekhua noted.

ONDO CPS MORNS LATE AKEREDOLU SAN, RESIGNS APPOINTMENT

The Chief Press Secretary to late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON of Ondo state, Mr Olabode Richard Olatunde has joined Nigerians and indeed the people of Ondo state to morn the passage of the Governor.

Mr Olabode Richard Olatunde however resigned his appointment as Chief Press Secretary over the death of his Principal, Late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

In a communication made available to SMN crew, it reads: "It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I tender my resignation as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, effective Wednesday 27th December, 2023".

Mr Richard said that his decision to resign from office is hinged on the unfortunate and untimely death of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON.

The former Chief Press Secretary said throughout his tenure as the Chief Press Secretary, he was fortunate to witness firsthand exceptional qualities of Governor Akeredolu. His courage, truthfulness, and honesty were unrivaled, and they served as constant source of inspiration for him.

He said his leadership and dedication to the development of Ondo state ignited within him a drive and passion to serve and contribute his quota to the progress of Ondo state.

Governor Akeredolu was not only an administrator but also a rare gem whose personality exuded honour and courage. It was a privilege to have served under his administration and to have been associated with such an exceptional individual. His demise has left a deep void in our hearts, and we mourn the loss of our hero and benefactor. "Mr Olabode Richard Olatunde said".

Mr Richard continues saying, "...in light of this tragedy, I believe it is essential for everyone to honour and respect Governor Akeredolu's legacy and memory. As we navigate through this difficult period, I beseech all to support one another and draw strength from the unity that our late governor exemplified."

Mr Olabode Richard however expressed gratitude to everyone including Journalists, politicians and other stakeholders for the support, guidance, and opportunities received during his time as Chief Press Secretary. It has been an invaluable experience working alongside such dedicated professionals, and I will cherish the memories and lessons from this role. "He said".

Mr Olabode Richard Olatunde while assuring the people of Ondo state of better days ahead, he said, "...I understand the challenges that lie ahead for our state, and I have faith in the resilience of our people to overcome them. GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU OF ONDO STATE IS DEAD

The death of the Governor of Ondo state, His Excellency Rotimi Akeredolu has been announced. The Governor died early hours on Wednesday 27th December, 2023 at a German hospital where he was receiving treatment, a senior government official in Ondo State told SMN crew in Akure, the state capital.

Mr Akeredolu died of leukemia and prostate cancer, two ailments that had made him incapacitated to govern the state for months.

Details of his burial rites will be announced later.

Edo State Urges Intending Pilgrims to Fulfill Documentation and Payment Requirements Ahead of 2024 Hajj Dec. 31 Deadline

In preparation for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, Edo State intending pilgrims have been reminded of the critical importance of meeting the December 31 deadline for payment of Hajj fare and complying with necessary documentation and legal directives before April 29, 2024.

The chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua stressed that adherence to these requirements is essential for a smooth and successful pilgrimage experience comes 2024.

With the imminent deadline approaching, Sheikh Oyarekhua reiterated that all intending pilgrims must ensure completion of the necessary paperwork, including visa applications, medical certificates, and travel documentation before April 29, 2024.

He added that prompt payment of the Hajj fare by the specified deadline of December 31, 2023 remains a crucial step in securing a place for the pilgrimage.

Speaking to stakeholders recently, he emphasized the significance of timely compliance, highlighting that failure to meet the payment deadline might result in forfeiture of the allocated slot for the state.

According to him, "The payment deadline of December 31 which is already here is very crucial. The directive from NAHCON is that issuance of visa will commence March 3, and end April 29 2024"

"It's important to know that as a state, if our intending pilgrims failed to meet the payment deadline, it might result to forfeiture of the allocated slots. That is why the board is working hard to sensitize the people. Hajj is not how we used to run it. Things have changed "

"As a board, we have been going round with messages to the various jummah mosques across the state, we have been engaging with local community leaders, we have been on radio, newspapers and social media, sensitizing people on these new developments"

Local community leaders and officials from the Edo State Muslim Welfare Board have been actively engaging with intending pilgrims, offering guidance and assistance to ensure that individuals have access to the necessary resources and information required for completing the documentation process and meeting financial obligations.

The December 31 deadline serves as a pivotal milestone for intending pilgrims, underscoring the need for proactive action in fulfilling financial commitments by intending pilgrims.

Sheikh Oyarekhua urged all prospective pilgrims to promptly address any pending requirements especially as it concerns international passport to avoid complications and ensure their participation in this sacred journey.

He warned:"Process your passport early. If you have any challenge, let us know. There is a strong collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Authority to facilitate issuance of passports for our intending pilgrims. Do not pay your Hajj fare and neglect passport and other requirements"

As the deadline draws nearer, the officials of the Edo State Muslim pilgrims welfare board continue to extend support to intending pilgrims, encouraging them to expedite the completion of necessary documentation and payment processes, thus ensuring a seamless and spiritually fulfilling Hajj experience for all participants comes 2024.

The Oghieaga of the Three Ibvie, HRH Mallam Ali D. Sulayman has appreciated the traditional rulers in Afemai land for honouring his invitation for a grand reception in honour of the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Hon Engr Abubakar E. Momoh by Afemai Sons and Daughters.
