A Non-Governmental Organization, Breakthrough action Nigeria has organize symposium for religious and traditional leaders in Bauchi State with participants drawn from the twenty local government areas on the concept of justice and fairness.
In his welcome address, the Field Officer in charge of Breakthrough action Nigeria Bauchi Office, Usman Inuwa highlighted some of the achievements so far recorded by Breakthrough action Nigeria in Bauchi State to include wider acceptance of attending antenatal and postnatal services by pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, exclusive breastfeeding, accepting vaccination, women empowerment among others.
Usman Inuwa explained that, the symposium were organized to bring together religious and traditional leaders, scholars, health officials and other critical stakeholders to deliberates on the role of men in childbirth spacing, women’s decision making in health, enhancing spousal communication and prevention of gender-based violence from religious and cultural perspectives.
One of the speakers at the symposium, Justice Abdullahi Yakubu Marafan Bauchi who deliberates on gender-based violence noted that existence of harassments among different gender would continue to cause disharmony between individuals especially among family which at the end would negatively affects their health status, further called on the participants to contributes their quarter towards reducing the menace.
On his part, Reverend J. Maina who spoke on spousal communication vividly deliberates on the problem of bad communication to include hostility among spouses while a good communication brings understanding and harmonious relationship among them.
On the role of women in decision making pertaining family health, Halima Ibrahim Abdullahi and Doris Benji spoke extensively about the issue, the duo said giving an opportunity to women in decision making regarding the their health is of uttermost important towards maintenance of healthy family.
Presentations on the roles of men in childbirth spacing were also delivered by Usman Musa Duguri followed by making inputs from participants at the event.
