On the 5th of December 2024, ASUU Taraba State University chapter declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action at the institution, coinciding with the ongoing 2023/2024 examination session.

This strike has led to delays in the graduation of final-year students and created uncertainty about the academic future of many students.

Following the strike, the management of Taraba State University issued a circular on the 7th of January 2025, announcing the resumption of the 2023/2024 examination session from Monday, January 20th to Saturday, January 29th, 2025.

In response to the circular, Dr. Mbave Joshua Garba, Chairman of ASUU at Taraba State University, informed journalists that the strike action remains in effect as the government has yet to meet the union’s demands.

Dr. Garba expressed disagreement with the university management's circular about the resumption of exams, scheduled for January 20th to 29th, 2025.

The Chairman also noted that while the government has met about 35% of the union’s demands, including the implementation of new minimum wage salaries, ASUU will not call off the strike until all their demands are fully addressed.

Dr. Garba appealed to union members to remain calm and focused. He emphasized that there are currently no substantial negotiations between the state government and the union.

During a visit to the university, offices on campus were closed, as the strike continues without a specific date for resolution.
