No helicopter dropped hundreds of people in Enugu – Ohanaeze

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged residents of Enugu State to ignore a trending video alleging that a helicopter dropped hundreds of people on top of a hill in Enugu capital city.

A female voice behind the video had claimed that she saw a helicopter drop off over hundred unknown persons.

The Enugu State Police Command had earlier on Saturday described as mischievous and fake the trending video.

Similarly, in a statement made available to journalists by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he described the video as mischief taken too far.

He said “following series of enquires from well meaning Nigerians on the claims about helicopters dropping hundreds of unknown persons on the top of Ugwu-ajali hill, bordering Ologo, Jamboree and Coal Camp areas of Enugu, we activated our network and findings showed that no such thing happened.

“Apart from Air Force chopper that undertakes training of personnel within that location, no helicopter came close to that location, let alone dropping hundreds of unknown persons.”

Okwu said it had become pertinent to caution against the abuse of the social media as it could backfire when the real danger comes.

“The other day it was a fake video claiming that soldiers were killed. Today again it is about a single helicopter dropping hundreds of people. This is unimaginable.

“We want to appeal to our people to exercise restraint as this kind of false alarm will do no one any good. Let us not destroy our house with fake news.

“Having said this, I urge the people of Enugu State to go about their normal businesses,” he added.

Police arrest 2 for killing 3 weeks old child in Nassarawa

Police operatives attached to 'D' Division, Lafia have arrested the duo of Abdulkadir Ahmed and Hassan Sabo both males and 40yrs old of Ungwan Maina, Lafia for killing three weeks old child.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on 11/10/2022, the principal suspect (Abdulkadir Ahmed) asked his friend (Hassan Sabo) to lure the mother of the deceased to his shop located opposite Correctional Facility, Lafia under the pretext of seeking reconciliation; a lady whom he earlier cohabited with, got her pregnant and sent her away.

Upon her arrival at the shop, Abdulkadir Ahmed took the child into his shop while Hassan Sabo engaged her in a discussion outside; suddenly the child screamed and went quiet. Abdulkadir Ahmed immediately came out of the shop and the mother enquired to know why the child screamed but was told that the child has gone to sleep. Not satisfied, she rushed into the shop and discovered the lifeless body of her child while the culprits immediately zoomed off on a motorcycle.

The Police were notified and the body was swiftly evacuated to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia where it was confirmed dead and subsequently deposited at the morgue for post-mortem examination.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi immediately ordered an intensive manhunt for the culprits; the search paid off on 13/10/2022 at about 1230hrs when they were arrested after a painstaking investigation.

The investigation is ongoing at State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia after which, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
