DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OFO AND IKENGA

An ikenga is a wooden carving that represents the owner's right hand. When an Igbo male reaches puberty, most times he is presented with an ikenga. It becomes his property which he must protect with his life. It is usually up to 2ft tall.

It carries the owner's chi, ndichie (ancestors), and ike, and represents his capacity for success and control over his own fate (power).
An ikenga is usually a seated male. The figure has two curled horns, and carries machete in his right hand (the hand of action) and a human head in his left hand (the result of the right hand’s action).

The facial expression of Ikenga is aggressive, exposing sharp teeth. Rams are used to represent Ikenga because of their strength and tenacity; they go into battle with their head and once two of them lock horns, they never back down until one is defeated. The ram horns, represents the determination needed to face life’s hurdles. The knife, with its wedged blade, connotes for the aggression with which challenges are met.When the owner dies, his ikenga is ritually broken into pieces and buried with him.

Sometimes because of lack of success in one’s life, it may lead an owner to reject his existing ikenga for and get a new one.A newly titled man may choose to replace his older ikenga with a newer one; a titled man’s staff may replace the knife in the right hand, while the left hand may carry an elephant tusk instead of the usual human head to depict his new status.In Igboland, ikenga still prominently upholds the value of individual enterprise in a person’s interaction with the world.

The ofo on the other hand is a staff carried by different Igbos — priests, kings, okparas and some masqueraders.The ofo signifies authority, command, administrative powers, and powers bestowed by the gods. The attack on 9th of December 2022 by uloshi killers gang called peace makers lead by lucky chibuogwu is an act of criminality, and we are dealing with it as such, simple.
I will not use politics, religion or tribe to excuse or justify this horrible attack which has taken on my life as law-abiding citizen manning their duty posts and flooded our communities with dangerous felons.

However, any politician, religioner or tribalist who wishes to insert himself into the equation is welcome to be my guest - he or she will be manhandled like a common criminal. In fact, like a murderous, fleeing, bandit.

I will serve justice to the attackers and we will recapture the escaped convicts. As usual, i will eliminate all threats to my people.

2023 ELECTION: GOV. UZODIMMA PROMISES ENABLING ENVIRONMENT DURING CAMPAIGNS

In continuation of ensuring the prevalence of Democracy and the Rule of Law in the State, the Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has admonished all Political Parties to go about their campaigns within the ambit of the Law.

The Governor said that no party would be denied access to space for their campaigns.

However, he instructed that all campaign organizations must write to the appropriate authorities and spaces available would be made accessible to them.

According to the Governor, "Where APC will campaign is where I want PDP to campaign, it's where I want Labour party to campaign. After campaigns, we will give our people the opportunity to choose".

The Governor frowned at the burning of the INEC office and facility and warned the perpetrators to desist from such undemocratic acts or be faced with the wrath of the Law.

He added that the success of democracy is a collective responsibility of all parties by behaving ourselves.

"Let us allow the Government of the people, by the people and for the people to thrive". Governor Uzodimma stated.

INSECURITY: IGP ACQUIRES, DEPLOYS 3 ASISGUARD SONGAR ARMED DRONES TO STRATEGIC LOCATIONS

• Orders Total Clamp Down on Non State Actors, Criminals

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, has acquired three (3) high-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for improved armed surveillance operations to checkmate criminal activities in the country as a further manifestation of the IGP's determination to integrate the use of innovative technology in the law enforcement duties of the Nigeria Police Force.

The newly acquired drones will surely assist the Police in monitoring active crime scenes, coordinating response operations, and providing armed aerial support to officers on reconnaissance operations.

The 3 newly acquired UAVs are rotary wing aircrafts capable of flying up to an altitude of 1000ft with high operational endurance and capacity of firing at acquired threats and targets from reasonable distances. The Nigeria Police Airwing has equally concluded trainings for the operators of the drones in partnership with foreign experts who have been consulted for trainings and maintenance of the drones.

The IGP has directed the immediate, and strategic deployment of these drones based on necessity, while noting that three (3) more UAVs of the same specifications are still expected at the shortest possible time.

The IGP while reiterating the constant deployment and judicious use of the drones, ordered total clamp down on non state actors and criminals in Nigeria, and similarly warned criminal elements across the country to steer clear and turn a new leaf else the environment would not be conducive for them, and they may meet their waterloo soonest.

The Inspector-General of Police has further re-emphasized the firm determination of his administration to continue to explore the use of technology in the fight against crime and criminality while seeking full cooperation from members of the public on intelligence gathering and vigilance.

You sit somewhere, got hold of his intellectual property, pirate it, duplicate the product and got yourself tonnes of copies of same property.

The original considered his overhead, sweat, labours and other costs to fix a reasonable price for his product which should guarantee profit and even a fortune for him.

But you, without overhead, labour, emotional investments, nothing at all attached to that product, sell at very ridiculously cheap prices.

You effectively pushed the original owner out of reckoning.

You pushed the original owner of INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY into huge lose, debt, penury, frustrations and depression.

The frustrated man begins to sell his land, Land he bought earlier or inherited.

You, the same PIRATE, are now the one with the money.

You buy him off his properties.

Eventually you push him out of town and before he knows it the poor man is in his village, leaving the city for you.

Whereas the city was part his ancestral homeland.

The man eventually dies of depression in the village.

At the end of the day when you are asked, you say the BUYING OF LAND WAS A STRAIGHT FORWARD AND PEACEFUL BUSINESS TRANSACTION.

Imagine that!

ATIKU VISITS AND SYMPATHISES WITH FLOOD VICTIMS IN BAYELSA

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming general elections, Atiku Abubakar, today arrived Bayelsa state on a sympathy visit to victims of the flood, which has wrecked havoc in several parts of the country.

The former vice president called off his campaign programs to visit flood ravaged areas and to offer his support to the victims.

An emotional Atiku, who witnessed the pains and agony of the victims, encouraged them to be strong and hopeful, even as he equally condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones to the flood.

In a show of solidarity to the State, Atiku offered full scholarship to some children whose academic programs have been affected by the disaster and also donated the sum of Fifty Million Naira N50M, in support of the victims of the flood in Bayelsa state.

While acknowledging the visit, the Bayelsa state government appreciated the PDP Presidential Candidate for finding time to visit the state and for the solidarity and financial support which the management of the Victims Support Fund, created by the state government confirmed to have received already.

Zulum at Buratai: Opens new school, approves 20 more teachers

… ‘We employed 1,000 teachers, built 24 mega schools, rehabilitated 600 classrooms’

… Governor orders 200 houses for Miringa

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, was yesterday (Tuesday) at Buratai village in Biu Local Government Area where he commissioned a newly built mega school with capacity for 1,500 students.

Zulum also directed the recruitment of an additional 20 teachers to be selected from the host community for deployment to the Government Secondary School.

The governor explained that the immediate recruitment will be on ad-hoc basis but teachers who prove their capacity and commitment will be given permanent employment and fully integrated into the state civil service.

‘Zulum employed 1,000 teachers, built 24 mega-size schools, rehabilitated 600 classrooms’

In his welcome address, Borno State’s Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, highlighted that in the last three years, Zulum administration was able to recruit about 1,000 teachers who were trained and posted to schools.

The commissioner also said that accommodation for teachers were constructed in Maiduguri, Banki and Mafa towns.

Wakilbe recalled that Zulum has so far built 24 mega-size schools and rehabilitated over 600 classrooms within 100 schools across the state.

He noted that 458 WASH facilities were also constructed across 350 primary and post-primary institutions in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum yesterday announced his approval for the construction of 200 housing units in Miringa.

Like Buratai, Miringa is also a village in Biu Local Government Area.

Zulum noted that the 200 houses will reduce housing deficit, particularly now that internally displaced persons were safely returning to their communities

The Nigeria Police Force is set to unveil its sporting talents at the 13th Biennial Police Games scheduled to take place in the beautiful and serene city of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital from 23rd – 30th November, 2022. The week-long historic sporting event is expected to be declared open by the Special Guest of Honour, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The event will also have the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as the chief host, and other very important dignitaries.

As conceived by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc+, NPM, fdc, who is passionate about sports development in the NPF, over 4500 male and female police athletes drawn from the 17 Zonal Commands and the Force Headquarters will feature and compete in several indoor and outdoor sporting activities which include athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, judo, taekwondo, weightlifting, golf, chess, squash, shooting, karate, swimming, hockey, badminton, triathlon, handball amongst other sporting events.

The 13th Biennial Police Games will yet again provide an opportunity for hidden sporting talents within the Force to be discovered as they will be given a platform to showcase their aptitudes to the world and subsequently make Nigeria proud as constantly exhibited by the Nigeria Police Force in sports business. Additionally, the event will afford the Force an ample occasion to engage the public, build goodwill and advance its community policing ideals anchored on mutual trust, understanding and partnership with the public.
